Ever since somebody said that Astel is the orphan of kos grown-up, I can't unsee it.
The truth of them being falling star beasts grown up, based on the irl antlion, is even cooler imo.
@@Nyxtia there’s no lore in game that supports that. I believe that the malformed stars look human is because they landed in Nokstella and adopted some mimic tear shapeshifting ability. The fallingstar beasts are just another type of void beast

I agree with Laurence 100%. The lore behind the fight is sooo strong, with you putting him to sleep after all he has done to the world. It feels like a bittersweet revenge. And the music fits perfectly with this monster of a man. Love it 😍

Im a fromsoft vet, Started with Demons Souls. Let me tell you, Ive foughten every from soft giant boss but when I saw the size of the Fire Giant, saw him lumbering over to me, and realizing there is no gimmick, I actual had to fight him.... Well there was a sense of majestic fulfillment. Finally, I actually got to fight a giant enemy like ceaseless discharge or Demon Dragon but its actually a fight

You’re so right about iudex gundyr; I recently got a friend into ds3 and that made it clear to me how great iudex is at introducing new players to souls games
Laurence is the most unfairly maligned boss in the series IMO. Great evolution of the Cleric Beast that doesn’t let you get free booty smacks, best OST in BB next to Ludwig, along with with being such an atmospheric and climactic encounter for the story. All the arguments against him are super reductive and circle back to the fact that visually he’s just a cleric beast on fire, while ignoring all the differences that make his iteration a massive improvement on the earlier Cleric Beast. I mean I just don’t get the mindset if being like “ugh, I hate fighting a more epic version of the iconic early boss AGAIN, like it’s bringing your BB journey thematically full circle, while offering a totally different second phase along with fantastic lore, score, and challenge worthy of the endgame. Ew.”
Laurence in underrated even in this list. Phenomenal fight. Hard but fun.

Laurence on Ng+ was one of the most miserable experiences of my life. Haven't fought him since. Still rate the boss and OST though.
Honestly Laurence is an amazing boss with only one negative. When I first went through the game, there were many people who were hyping him up in being the hardest boss in the game. I beat him first try, after that I wondered what all the fuss was about and how it didn’t live up to its infamy in the community. I just chalked it up to being really good at the game. But then I went in again, this time in NG+. And holy shit let me tell you to this day i still haven’t beaten him yet. Honestly I think I’ve died to him more than Melania at this point. The thing is that Laurence deals too much damage compared to other bosses and at NG+7 he has more HP than Orphan making him a slog to get through at higher levels. I can get him probably in less than 3 tries most of the time on NG, but NG+ and above he starts to show his faults more than ever.
I don't know, man. The first phase is a pretty good evolution of the cleric beast scaled appropriately for endgame but that second phase on Lawrence is so boring and miserable. He just covers half the church in lava and only has like two or three attacks. I think he is one of the weakest bosses in the game for that awful second phase alone. Feels like a missed opportunity to have his second phase really elevate him above other giant beast bosses like Ludwig's second phase does.
My day was good, but it became GREAT when this popped up! Thanks so much!

I honestly was always surprised when people said these were their favorite games but didn’t like most bosses. I still hate some though to be fair, I just like the bosses more than the average creator I guess!

Like you mentioned Margit was my first boss of the series and I swear that was the most tries I’ve ever had on a boss
I've played all the other games and Margit still is one of the bosses I spent the most time on, because I refused to continue exploring until I beat him lol.
I would consider the Godskin Apostle in the Divine Tower of Caelid to be the main one and not the one in windmill village. This is because that place is a sort of mini dungeon akin to Castle Mourne, Caria Manor, the Shaded Castle, Redmane Castle and Castle Sol.
Nightwalk: I think Lady Butterfly is the only old lady fight in Soulsborne.

I'm glad you gave respect to the Divine Dragon. I love the feeling of being in this divine realm. Sometimes fights like this get slept on due to the combat not being what's expected, but the overall cinematic and atmosphere are so enjoyable for me.
People seem to really want the same things over and over again, I really like when fromsoft goes big and new!

Being the 1st souls boss I ever face, Iudex will forever hold a special place in my heart. Now I'm going through ds1 and sekiro and I have to say, Iudex is by far the best tutorial boss I've seen.
Asylum demon is kinda typical of ds1, in that structurally, it's a work of unimaginable genius, building the whole asylum around the yard and teaching you that running is ok, and that there's no such thing as a fair fight. I have to say, while I don't think any souls game will match the genuine emotional power that struck me in ds3 (though, we'll see), ds1 is definitely the most impressive on a technical level. I'm not even out of the Undead Parrish yet, but the level design is _insane_ . It's so impressive it keeps me up at night, thinking about all the layers of complexity and elegance. ds1 is the kind of game that legitimately expands your brain. In terms of the actual fight though, it's definitely a little clunky, in a charming way, yes, it definitely carries that ds1 "gamey" feel that's together mirthful but also low-stakes and uneventful.
Gyobou I think of a little less than most, I think the pacing is a little wobbly with him running away a bit too much. Getting used to ds3 combat and then jumping into Sekiro thinking I'm a vet now was a _painful_ mistake. It punishes you so hard for dodging and for not attacking too and those shield ****s are even more annoying now that there's no kick and you can't bait them into attacking either.
I think, what I like the most in Iudex, and the whole bosscast of ds3 in general, is the sheer force and strength of character they exude. Without a single word, just by the way they look, move, attack and death-glare you and the aesthetics of the boss arena and their theme, they all radiate personality and charisma to an almost oppressive degree. Case in point, Gundyr. Now, I don't even know how to explain it; But you take one look at this guy and you can only think: "Holy shit. This guy is _based_ . This guy's a _gigachad_ . He's the kind of guy who would angrily tell you he ****ed your mom and it would actually be the case."
PS Nice list, but if Friede (incidentally, it's Free-DE, with DE as in "death", not Freed like it's some yankee brand name, please) is not in the top 10, I'll strap you to a chair and flog you with a flail from now till winter and then burn your house down, have a nice day :D
PPS Thinking of, a lot of ds3 big boys have yet to appear, I think. Abyss Watchers, Gael, Pontiff, and of course Cindy, the boss that made me genuinely tear up without even knowing anything about the lore. God, ds3's level design might be a child's toy compared to ds1, but its _vibes_ are second to none.
I definitely don't hate Fire Giant like some do, but I wasn't expecting it to show up this high. Sif is also great
19:54 I recently started playing Elden Ring, and my only prior experience was that I played past Taurus Demon in the first Dark Souls but never made it to Andre. I explored basically all of Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula before taking on Margit, and I was able to beat Margit on my third try, not using any summons.
Lawrence is a cool fight, but he makes my old PS4 struggle even more than all the other bosses.

Ngl Laurence and Fire Giant are some of my favorite fights to do with "raid style" fights, with 1 or 2 summons, try it, it's so much fun.

Your comment about Sif being the original "somber fight". I'm pretty sure I've heard you mention not playing Demon's Souls but i would say Maiden Astraea was the first fromsoft boss to really make you question your actions.

I played both DS3 and DS2 after ER to finally finish the series. I actually found playing DS2 I didn't really love fighting the bosses so spectacle and quirks became more important for me.
So I ended up loving bosses like Demon of Song the most. Or even Vendrick who is very slow but will kill you in 2 hits with very unusual music

Bro, the OST is the best, the setting and lore is so awesome, and the fight so awesome. Like, if you didn't feel something when the swell of phase 3 with Gael flipping over you shooting you with the crossbow and the lightning strikes. He goes from being a beast like Ludwig to standing upright... the only problem is that he doesn't have enough HP unless you summon other players.

Iudex is a hot take! Respect it though. Even I'd say Champion Gundyr is a masterpiece of a boss and I'd put him higher, lol. The spectacle isn't really there but my hot take is he has the best 1 on 1 combat of all the base game bosses and I adore that, I always feel so engaged fighting him.
Sif`s Boss Fight will forever be one of the saddest things i had to do in any Videogame. the special Cutscene added with the DLC made it even worse. Helping the tiny wolf escape from the depths of the abyss, just to get recognised by him at the grave of his master.
And then you still have to fight this beloved creature, because he dosent want to see another friend of his succumb to the curse of the abyss...

im not that good at games and ds3 was my first game in the series and i remember it quite well how i managed to beat ludex gundyr first time in the first 10mins of playing souls game for the first time i have never been that good since

Fortissax has enough HP, it’s just that people often do Deeproot Depths overleveled. Same thing with Fia’s Champions although that fight sucks. I think you’re supposed to go there before Leyndell as it makes a lot more sense both difficulty and balance wise for the entire area.
I prefer Iudex over the champion too. He was my first souls boss and was a lot harder at his point in the game than the champion was
8:13 Dude exactly what I’m saying! People say Elden Ring ost is weak, but there’s Lichdragon, Mohg, and Godskins. Some of the best themes in the Souls series.
To be fair, most of the OST's in Elden Ring are pretty underwhelming compared with DS3 and Bloodborne, but I wouldn't say they're bad although some of them are way, way overused

Laurence has always been my favourite boss in bloodborne. Whenever someone brings up the fact that he’s a reskin, I always remind them of how MOST people rank the champ over Ludex, despite just being a “reskin”

While Genichiro does become a little too easy once you git gud, he is a wall for new players. Ghost Riposte said it took him 24 hours to first beat Genichiro, pretty crazy. I’m sure a lot of people quit and can’t beat him, but something special happens upon fighting him, the mechanics really start to click with you if you stick with it and it sets you up for success for the rest of the game. He’s challenging for new players but rewards mastery of the mechanics to the point where you can easily no-hit him with skilled play. I think he’s very well balanced and forces you to play the way Sekiro wants you to play. I think he is a perfectly designed boss. The way that you mix up deflects, attacks, mikiri counters, jumps and skills/prosthetics is just beautiful in Sekiro.
Inner Genichiro mixes up a few more moves to keep it challenging for those who’ve mastered his fight. Also the story of Genichiro is tragic, he’s willing to go to any length and shed humanity itself in order to save his beloved Ashina, you have to admire his dedication and sacrifice even though he’s trying to kidnap Kuro. There’s a few other bosses that are just masterpieces in Sekiro that don’t compare to Genichiro, but I think he’s really close to being perfect.
So Lady Butterfly loses points for having an AI that can be exploited. But Fire Giant is top notch?

I will never know a good placement for Iudex on this list. Everyone I talk about souls with has played every game since Demon's Souls in the late 2000s, me included. Everyone that I suggest Dark Souls to (apart from one guy who played Sekiro and Elden Ring but gave up at the True Corrupted Monk and Malenia respectively), are intimidated by it's difficulty and reputation, and never have and tell me they never will play it (understandable, it's not the most friendly game). The first time I fought Iudex, I thought he was an interesting and cool boss, but I demolished him in under a minute. In that regard, I never really thought of him as a stand-out apart from being the first boss of Souls 3 and that pushover with the worst groundhog day, that you beatdown to get to firelink. Hearing horror stories about 30+ attempt runs, reminded me of the first time I fought Gyoubu, where the mechanics were completely foreign to me and I was still getting used to multiple deflections and shaking off the dodge instincts and I got clobbered by him. In that respect, as a new player, I can see why Iudex's placement on the list makes sense.

Hot take ebrietas is easy af. I just stuck to the left side(her right) and just spam combos and she dies in a minute or less. And I’ve never seen the call beyond attack despite having hundreds of hours in the chalice dungeons. I think logarius, gehrman, and rom are the only contenders for hardest main game boss.
So i agree with the placement of iudex gundyr, hes the best intro boss by far and is overall a good boss, i think that champ is way too loe tho, he is a fight that fires on all cylinders, along with such a beautifully balanced moveset and aggression that makes healing very difficult, bit not impossible
As for lawrence, my issue isn't the damage, or that he's a reskin, it's that he exploits BB's mechanics to make the fight way harder than it needs to be, and that's for one simple reason: the fucking flame trails, after all of his swipes are flame trails that will catch you out of your s if you dodged the regular attack, and because BBs has doubld damage on dodge recovery, you get assblasted by these trails
Attack trails should make it so the player has to better time their dodge, not punish them even if they do well time them, gael and abyss watchers did it perfectly, lawrence has a killer song tho, too bad it's attached to such a shit fight
I think it's true, you are the only one to put Iudex above Champ haha.
The Shadows of Yharnam on any difficulty beyond NG are so, so annoying, the ability to just randomly one shot you with their snake attack is so annoying. I also think the fact that one of the 3 can be set into a perpetual loop takes away from the fight from a mechanical perspective.
The real problem with Fire Giant is if he decides he's just gonna roll around all over the place over and over again, which he can and will do with too great regularity for my taste.
The Burnt Ivory King is the absolute best fight in DS2, so much better than Fume or Alonne - the two that I think must rank above this, don't think ive seen them yet - honestly considering how relatively bad DS2 is with bosses, I actually think Ivory King ranks very, very high, top 20 across the whole series for me. Fume and Alonne by comparison just feel like better than average humanoid bosses to me, Alonne has a horribad boss run up as well.
The 2 Gundyr fights are both very good, I think the first is better too, purely because it works so well as a first boss fight and the latter version feels slightly lazy as a result.
I hate Laurence, but mostly just because I found him to be exceedingly difficult tbh, which I don't necessarily thinks plays a boss down too much overall.
personally for me amygdala was one of my least favorites just cause its hard to see whats happening and the head is out of range 90% of the time. Burnt ivory king is a top 3 fight for me, just a better artorias if you think about it.
Laurence is one of the more better designed bosses that gets most of its hate from #1 A "Reskin" (Even though besides visuals it is very different from Cleric Beast) and #2 It's Hard therefore bad.
Neither are among my favourites, but how anyone could put Laurence or Fire Giant in the bottom ten is beyond me. Maybe they just hate fire.
Am I the only one who recognizes the fact he has 26 bosses numberly named for dark souls 3 when there is actually 25. (Not dissing on your list at all, but I am kinda curious about that)
Laurence is good, but not that good. He is a reskin. It's Blue Cool-Aid part two because at least Smelter Demon's attacks don't one shot-two shot me every single time despite 45 vigor because of counter damage after a missed timed roll. And despite this, he still has a long ass runback as well.

I actually think Laurence should be higher. I think his soundtrack is arguably top 1 in the whole series and while his 1st phase isn’t the best, his second is perfect.

I agree with you about Lawrence he definitly is slept on and I never found him to be that hard either. As for champion gundyr under iudex????? I think that's way too low on the list for him in the first place and iudex fight lasts like 10-20 seconds for me now and is pretty much just a punching bag. I dont even see too many of his mechanics during the fight except for his health going down lol.

I would rather fight dual crucible knights than fight the fire giant, that’s how much I dislike that boss. Fire giant doesn’t belong ahead of any boss in Sekiro

I've finished elden ring twice and am currently playing DS3 where I just beat the dancer after nearly giving up. Out of all the bosses the Fire Giant is still the only one that I haven't beaten without help. I hate him soooo much. He is Boring, has way too much health, half the fight you're just running after him or trying not to get hit by the fire. If you didn't skill a lot in vigor you get one shot by every attack and the camera is so bad it actually made me shout into a cushion. I can't see a fucking thing, especially in the second phase where you can't lock onto his leg anymore. 0/10 worst boss I've fought.
Just goes to show the difficulty is subjective thing. I’d put him mid tier for difficulty, never died more than a few times to him in a play through except on my rune level 1 play through which took about 10. To each their own though!
I got destroyed by a lot of “Easy” bosses according to other people too so it’s just inconsistent
@@BBQcheese on my mage playthrough I put most of my points in int so I could use rennalas staff so I only had 30-40 vigor. But I'll try the unlocked camera next time thanks. Oh and I see the tells but I can't figure out the timing consistently.

Lady Butterfly and Genechiro both too low in my opinion. Genechiro is an easy top 20 for me.
To BE honest i think a por of tour ranking makes no sense. This is mostly because you value things like atmosphere, música visual far too much. These things should be accounted for, but they should be worth far less than gameplay, except for bosses that specificaly strive to present a spectacle above all (like divine dragon). It should be like 40% these things and 60% gameplay, or 30% -70%.
I prefer Iudex too, I actually don't even really like Champion that much, didn't really the think game needed to expand on the boss.

Elden Ring bosses suck. They are mechanically broken bs garbage. They aren’t fun to fight against and they go against rules and mechanics of the rest of the series. I’ll take Gael, Artorias, Nameless King, Dancer, Ornstein and Smough, Midir, Twin Princes etc. over any Elden Ring boss.
I think they’re fun to fight against, but glad we’re not forced to agree haha
