I wish you guys would review the cortland nymph series. Its priced at 299 and seems to be well liked. I just trust your opinion and would love to hear it.

Joe , you mentioned 10’2 wt , I don’t see that Redington strike does not seem to come in that model on your website , so you recommend a budget minded level 10’2 wt for Euro nymph specific ?

IMHO, the lock down reel seat negates the short fighting butt. Especially with a large reel. I know the design is made to balance the rod better, but the reel becomes the fighting butt.

Very good points. I think for me it has more to do with having a forgiving material at the end of the rod for general comfort. I'm not sure there is a leverage advantage.

I love the shadow II but I did watch 3 of them shatter this summer with clients.

How are they breaking them? I’m no echo rep. but I find the western euro nymph rods so ‘light’ by customer demand that a LEADER change is needed. Here me out...
Ditch any connections you have above your sighter and run straight maxima chameleon 12/15lb for 60ft or so to your sighter. Why? Because I’ve seen so many of our light tips fail from knots chased at speed. Bail every dam knot you can don’t even trust knot sense epoxy it’s not worth it.

Euro nymphing casts are more relative to centerpin style than traditional fly casts. That 20lb or whatever traditional European nymph lit teaches of amnesia is nonsense.

How does it feel compared to the hydrogen? Thanks in advance.

Hydrogen isn't the best rod for nymphing...probably going to get discontinued soon...

@@smackinbaits6693 I was curious on the difference in feel. I have the 10ft 3wt Hydrogen. Its a little soft and fun on the smaller streams but when you hook into a bigger fish, lots of fun. Thanks for the reply.

@@FreeFormFlyFisher I tried the hydrogen because I love redington but the strike is great. Although I recently got an aetos = greys. I loved it. but for best bang for buck, It would be the orvis clearwater 10'3", i'm not saying hydrogen is bad, it's ok. there are other rods better suited.

@@smackinbaits6693 gotcha. Yea I have an Orvis Clearwater 10' 4wt and I love it. I'll have to try the Aetos. Thanks for the information. If you have time check out some of my videos. I mainly use the Clearwater, Hydrogen, and a St. Croix Imperial. Just can't see my self really spending a lot on a rod yet haha. Tight lines.

Is there any difference between this rod and the hydrogen rod? I'm looking at getting one of them for a dedicated nymph rig. Thanks for the review. Tightlines.

Go shadow II. It’s a sweet rod. I fish it and the sage esn and I’m very confident in the performance of the shadow II.

I wondering about something when the water is ice cold under 30 in the river and the fish are not bait anything what would be good to use a fly this time of the month 🤔🤔🤔

Keep it small brother, mostly midges. Size 20- 26 usually works quite well, everywhere.

Especially during the winter. Small nymphs/midges, and streamers are super productive.

which is the better rod between strike and clearwater?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  ปีที่แล้ว

Strike IMO, but that is based on experience with other models of the Clearwater not the Euro. I have just never been too impressed. What's the price on the Clearwater? Are they in the same price range?

It looks like a good solid rod but Orvis Clearwater is king with the price it is currently selling for...

Performance from the shadow II negates the price difference, seriously, I promise.

Thanks for the review, would be cool to see how it operates with a dedicated euro rig rather that the hillbilly rig. Cheers.
