This should be DJ School 101 for anybody even attempting the art. REAL. No gimmicks, no filler, no vocals, no hands in the air, no stupid hand hearts, no cakes to the face, just a solid innovator honestly DJing the way it should be done. Some may say well its not perfectly mixed like CDJs and software can do but anyone who has heard this on a solid soundsystem in the dark can tell you its when the mix is a bit off then nudged into action and it all comes together how much that speaks to the human element of this music and the explosive all coming into one experience it creates. Live without a net, going for it, risking imperfection for art, wearing your mixing balls on the outside of your body for all to see should be the standard but alas people need their fireworks synced to the drop going nowhere now and put it all on an SD card showing you their hands in the air NOT doing the work and people pay hundreds to see it.. Last time I saw El Jefe there was 100 people there in NYC, last time I saw Hawtin there was 10,000 people there and he put me to sleep! Long live Axis and REAL mixing artists!!!!!!!!! -
+Kyle Brown Jeff Mills said that it this mix is to show how to dj ;)
Well then mission accomplished! Seriously this guy is the truest artist techno has ever known and to see guys like Hawtin (who's no slouch at all so no offense but what is playing to me is not techno) get what they are getting for a few hours around the world but for so few to know The Wizard is just crazy. Met him a few times and he was always the nicest and most humble guy you could imagine. Went to his Axis: 20 Years show and though a little more subdued than he used to be bpm and mix-wise was the best music I have heard in years. Long live the best thing from Detroit since the V8! Vrrrrroooooom!
+Kyle Brown No Vocals?
+Kyle Brown 100 plp in NYC to see Mills?? WOW that must've been an amazing experience. When i see him in clubs is ALWAYS packed. El Jefe Yezzz Sir.
+Kyle Brown you don't need this skill to DJ today. Just like you don't need typewriter to do a paper.
his levels of concentration and co-ordination are almost supernatural. the first time i saw him, in dublin in 1996, not only did he keep up an exciting minute-by-minute mix with the three decks, he managed to dismantle the headshell from deck 3 and replace it with a different on and then change the cartridge, keeping the mix going with the headshell in his mouth between his teeth and hands flying between records, faders, headshells and cartridges and tone arms. he never dropped a beat.
+Gavin Paisley yeah he is a mixing machine :)
if that's the gig from the ormond center i have a recording of it,,, dodgy decks
he an alien for sure
sure was, Aidan, and they were super dodgy, he looked like he'd a real pain in his hole with them all night.
Aidan Brady that needs to be uploaded mate
every time The Bells is getting played in a mills' mix sounds like it's the first time you ever heard it, absolute god.
Millsart and his techno padawan army : slater, hood, surgeon, clarke, garnier, mulero, wink, cox, temple, liebing, beyer, sims, bicknell, ruskin, svath, dvs1, denham, faki, klock, dettmann, technasia, kraviz, the advent, oliver ho, samuel l sessions, allien, john thomas, deetron, carola, bailey, hades, hardcell etc...
Best Boiler room ever haha
Always a precursor, alays a genius, always an innovator : The chosen one and only techno Godfather and wizard :) Everything he touch is transformed on Gold.....
You know.. we actually need to see Jeff Mills's majestic in a boiler room set!
nah this is superior
and best techno dj mix ever !
Da wurde noch richtig geleiert. Absolut der Hammer. Jeff Mills!
TECHNO
the Founder.
the Creator.
the Legend.
Thanks a lot Detroit !!!
Amazing just how much great music Detroit has given the world.
All your f***** Sync and Laptop DJs ! Look at this !
Word.
He was doing this back in the mid 90's. Way ahead of the digital age if you ask me.
*****
it's acctually early 80's mate :)
Bogdan Alexandru Drajan
Jeff Mills was probably doing it at the earliest, late 80's. Where did you get the info that he was doing it earlier?
Bogdan Alexandru Drajan Late '80s unless he was slaying techno mixes before it was 'actually' invented mate :/
3 DECKS, one legend !
I remember Detroit in the late 80s and early 90s...saw this guy at least 20 times....what a mad scientist...he's the man!
nice.. would luv to see a set....yes mad scientist
I use CDJs.. never tried vinyl unfortunately.. after watching this I feel like I'm not even a real DJ at all.. THIS is real DJing. Some mesmerising shit..
he uses cdjs too now.....and at least u don't use tractor with autocue!
F THE SYSTEM Cd j's sucks
Zach Brake don’t tell yourself that.... diversify
Nobody can identify themself as a DJ if they havent or cant use vinyl. End of.
@@stupidhuman1603 bang on
No iPad, no computer, just vinyl and a mixer. THIS, kids, is how it's done!
Back in the day there were some boys who could throw down on 2-3+ decks with vinyl. Some of best sets I ever saw were at 90's raves. Claude Young (Newburgh skate park), T-1000 ( Brooklyn shipyard and Armory sets were unreal), Carl Cox(storm raves and Twilo), Laurent Garnier, Robert Hood, Mike Deerborn, Dave Clarke.... Papa Sven of course Jeff Mills, man those were the day. So much skill.
ThumperNY Carl Cox had a nickname...The 3 decks wizard
can't fuck with the wizard.
three decks and one Mills!
rough, original and magic!
I'm 15 and it's the first time I've seen a live/vinyl performance. AND I'VE LIKED THAT BABY !
you started right sir!
Keep watching guys like Jeff, DJ Shadow, Craze etc. These are turntablists to the core.
That is why i love TECHNO. This set is damn pumping energy and this guy is totally perfect
Jeff Mills is the best dj ever and disliking his skills means knowing absolutely nothing about Dee Jaying and Techno Music
Requiem is good but no ben sims who truly rocks da decks like no one else
That's not my opinion at all mate, but i do respect yours :) Take it easy!
Mills is an amazing producer but when it comes to mixing skills Dave Clarke is the don.....or the Baron i should say ;)
Dave Clarke is great too, but come on mate, we're talking about the Bruce Lee of dee-jaying here :)
Williams's got the point in that one.
JEFF GOD FATHER OF TECHNO MILLS
This is a real DJ. This is a DJ.
The guy's a genius.Incredible what he's doing with 3 decks!
I’ve seen him play on 5 decks at sickness & recovery with Richie Hawtin
Mainly mangling beats. Sounds like bricks in a cement mixer at times.
then: 3 decks 1 dj, ear hands skills. cover $10
now: 1 controller 3 djs, computer skills, no headphones. cover $200
@@henrymeyer5214 no it's not. if anyone can do it, it's nothing special anymore. And special people should be popular, not those that aren't special and only got lucky. However eve n back in the day it was all about who you know so yeah
I love how the loose beat matching elevated this. He is quite simply one of the greatest
A night in Leiden, years ago. Me into hard music like Slayer. The only house I could bare was Mills at the liquid room (best dj mix album to date.) Passing the crowd was a dark man. My friends tell me: "Thats Mills!"
Couldn't be? This slender guy? I still don't believe it. It sounded so raw, so white at the time.
25 years later I understand this mans roots. One needs to hear hundreds of less gifted dj's to understand this force. This is breathing music, not just making it. Mills was planted on this planet, not born.
I always loved this mix since I bought it on CD many years ago. Great to finally see Jeff's silky skilled hands flying all over the shop. Amazing DJing. What I love is the energy in Jeff's mixes. It's not just mixing one track in, letting it play for five minutes then mixing the next track in. Instead he's constantly blending and agitating the mix, which translates to high-adrenaline thrills.
I dont really like the genre but infinite respect for this godly skills.
the kind of comments everyone appreciate. even if you're not fan of techno, the skills are unique until today !
Utter perfection. Jumps, skips, needle crackle 🙌🏻🙌🏻 The feel of mixing vinyl will never be recreated, we obviously have to move on with technology, but those of us who mastered the art of vinyl mixing will always be blessed.
amen
His Set @ Liquid Room Tokyo: he did not only melted the club, he even melted complete tokyo,
like godzilla :-)
Enorme mix. Un des meilleurs DJ des années 90.
When drops Black Water I always smile
OMG! Thank you so much for the discober! I love you
Black Water is the definition of a masterpiece
Same
32 tracks in 45 mins
He sometimes does 70 in one hour
Watchin his mixing is one of the best things ever... the wizard Jeff Mills
Ironic thing about Jeff is the fact that, if you catch him during some down time or pay him a boat load of money... You might be able to get him to do a Hip Hop set (Old School)... This guy was doing tricks which, evolved into what is known today as Turntablism... At one point in time; he use to be the Best Radio Hip Hop DJ...
This guy is a perfect example of how a DJ can mature and grow, as a person and an entertainer.
'THE WIZARD' LIVES ON!
i guess he will refuse the boat load of money, just ask nicely hahah . HE's THE WIZZARD, not an edm trap cunt that can sell his mother for a buck hahaha
Chuck Turnher I saw him in Sub Club in Glasgow, he was playing lots of hip hop and old acid stuff, was amazing
+Deep Pulse indeed ...well said.jeff mills is a god
this is why jeff mills is my fav dj!!!!!!!
Its strange when you dont like the music, but when its played like this its suddenly very nice music.
DJ School 101!! This why i love the style of techno in the electronic genre.
Uff !! I really think that i know how to mix , then I see this guy and I really question my self if I actually know .
...total best of best..
His mixing is really special! Fun to watch!!!!
from a time not to long ago when techno was techno, when the DJ was a DJ and a DJ needed skills...i fucking love Jeff Mills!!
Is it greedy to say I wish this was longer ?!
I don't even have the words to articulate. This is Mind Blowing.
larga vida a Jeff Mills
Lots of good ol' techno tracks I listened back in the days.
take notes kids, this is how techno should be.
7:48 I love that track... Octave One - Blackwater...
To jest Majstersztyk Arcydzieło i sztuka odsłuchu trafienia w punkt. Nikt chyba lepiej nie potrafi wykorzystać vinyla z Technicsem🙂🙃
prime example of why hes called the Wizard. smooth flawless blends and fader/knob manipulation thats second to none
excellent mister jeff ah ah ah
So. Damn. Fucking. Good.
Simply awesome.
the day that guetta, aoki, avicii , etc mix like this..... the world will be different
The mixes and the transitions that Jeff pulls off - on nearly every occasion - are just a legend to behold, man!
dmbassa g
He truly is a wizard. Just listen to the sequence of transitions with the Octave One track from 7 min to 9 min. Must see him live again soon
What a privilege to watch, seen live, amazing, master of the art
Ah...love this....back to his old self.
I used to try and emulate this guy back in the late 90's. He was the only mix dj i highly respected, since he made it creative and so much more fun and experimental. All the other dj's were just play track through, mix at end. BORING.
Jeff Mills has never disappointed me. His Tokyo mix is still amazing....I can listen to it over and over and never get sick of it.
Keep it up Jeff!
The thing I love the most in the video's description
Style:Interview
It certainly is!
this guy is sick. he is not normal.
What a set Jeff☺.
GOLDEN AGE OF TECHNO Jeff fking GOD... today the techno music is pure fashion crap
It's the flaws that make it flawless. One of the best recorded sets in history, no question.
incredible, he must be really tired after a session. party never stops!!
Absolute classic bangers from a legend
i dont know how many times i've watched this......mesmerizing
SUPER SET,LOVED EVERY SECOND,DID NOT WANT IT TO STOP,IM A HOUSE,DEEP HOUSE AND TECHNO FAN SINCE THE 80's, I'm glad i came to this video.
Most of my first techno expirience!💪👍☺
Pure old school, them hands on the wheels of steel belong to a genius, and can't thank you enough 💓☮️😁
chopin in black
nice
I never got around to acquiring the dvd - my most sincere appreciation 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
always loved watching him at work :-)
jeff mills , king of the old skool hard house . ive loved his stuff 4 15 yrs or more ! it looks like he might be mellowing in his old age , happens 2 tha best of us ! me included.
"...and discovered this DJ who was mixing, I say it to this day, if you ain't listened to The Wizzard, you ain't have a fucking clue what you was missing..." Eminem
Jeff mils is à legend of dj of détroit and New York top dj set future alliance and communication and tecknology
this is REAL djing...
this guy can MIX!! these old school djs are really djs! no digital sh**! hat's off to the mixologist JEFF MILLS!
I love all this tracks!!
Just can’t beat the sound of the beat slap being dragged back in time, it just adds to the manual nature of this type of mixing.
I love hearing this music played hands on.....this is what you call a live mix, No computer program can do it like this !!!
woww its real techno :)
ι want all the records who are playing here ...absolutely ..best jeff mix!
I prefer 1 Mills,
that 1000 richie ,loco shit varies
Richie is such a legend of techno, too. Jeff is legendary, but much respect to Hawtin.
found this whilst looking for a warm up to his performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra tonight in Australia. Bring back memories of several freezing winters' raves dancing to him DJing on 4 decks inside huge derelict sheds at Melbourne docklands
7:45 Octave One - Blackwater (Kevin Sauderson String Instrumental Mix) luv this
thx mate
i'm an underground rap dj and underground rap record collector, and I find this effin sick.... can't understand how this has 6 dislikes so far
63 people arrived here by mistake and disliked it because they were expected some other kind of exhibitionism video... ;-)
I used to think I was quite good at mixing on 2 decks & I was okay I suppose. Then I tried mixing 3 (vinyl) decks a few times in my mates house & it confused the absolute hell out of me, it’s so difficult! This guy is a beast 👍
I would advise Henry Rollins to check out this video before he starts insulting DJs. This is artistry.
Kevin Murrell Henry Rollins can be a bit of a prat sometimes, to be fair.
Henry Rollins... Please ... Old & bitter.
What an inspiration thanks for Mills always moving my mind and body
If techno brought you to this page..
You just got served! Jeff Mills - Bad Man!
There's no other word else I can say: Extraordinary!
I am very curious for the reasons the dislikers disliked this. I really am !!
I think they thought it was Steve Aoki and David Guetta, and were confused as this is real DJ'ing and it fried their brain as there wasn't any sync buttons, horn blowing or people on a microphone telling you to "fucking jump"
Ryan Thomson Aha spot-on ! And wondering what that disabled (because he doesn't raise his arms every two minutes, and doesn't jump up and down every 4 minutes) headphone guy is doing with those frisbees spinning on those strange table devices ....
They live upside-down
Every single video on youtube has dislkes, no matter what you do there is allways someone who will dislike it. Not really news.
my friend.. they do not recognize talent en quality ...thats it.i mean ? true house music lovers cannot ! dislike a man like Mr Mills. the man has is own signature ..even IF one doesn't like this.. still ?> understand the technique this takes . i just end with ; .1 of maybe 10 who started the world of House Music. .. Bow for him :)
16:23 - 16:33
The way he feathers that channel is probably one of my favourite moments in a set ever.
That’s the technique and skill !👍
20:37 the most amazing part of this mix....Jeff Mills not doing anything!
The world is full of wonders, am I right?
JJW001 totally. No useless knob touching just to look busy.
Well I guess I'll give him a break since he made the track... XD
Lol he looks uncomfortable not doing anything...you can see his hands twitching
seamlessly perfect. it is very rare to become hypnotically enthralled by a DJ set like that.
Que pasada! Y sin dirección asistida!
I'm missing the times when DJs were masters of mixing skills and not dancing clowns like nowadays. Much respect to Mr Mills!
The art of mixing from the past not like so called compter dj,s callig thm self dj,s anyone can press a play button and use auto sync...but this is class just 1210,s and a trained ear
im a hiphop dj.i was watch him one time spinning at club.he really into the music&mixing.very enjoy.respect real dj whatever u r hiphop, house or tecnho.true skill
