I agree directing very much affects how a movie turns out but I'd argue digital effects are not as important, if you have bad effects people will still watch more, for example Aquaman had in most people's opinion bad underwater effects and yet the second film is still expected to be huely popular, where as bad directing, cinematogrpahy or audio composition can turn an entire section of the audience away for life.

As someone who is obsessed with films and has acted, you do tend to get so immersed into the character and the world you are acting in, that you geniunely begin to see the characters as they WILL be, the scenery as it WILL be. as a compositor myself in CGI and 3D lemme just say large teams work on individual shots here frame by frame painting things out compositing thing in and its quite rewarding when you see the end product! these breakdowns really help show the process but yea its more cgi and special effects than you realise
As an aspiring filmmaker, special effects scares me tbh but it's also a great tool too... such a good addition thanks to advancing in technology. But practice and budget plays a part. It could be a terrifying process too if done wrong

These guys need to watch a video about special effects in Christopher Nolan films. The guy isn't a fan of green screen stuff so he does a lot of it in real places with practical effects. For example for Inception they actually created a spinning hallway that rotates and in Batman TDK, they actually blew up the hospital. Insane stuff!

Having same color cloths as the background green screen or blue screen; they have a lot of techniques to get around those issues but most commonly, even with GS or BS, they end up doing rotoscoping for each character as that gives better edges. Usually actors don't have a clue what's gonna be behind the green screens, but the way movies are made nowadays that the entirety of the movie would be made with a PS2 graphics with animation as blueprint called Previsualization, and then they'd plan out everything else after that, so even if the actors can't see what's behind the green screens, they have the Previz animation and also concept arts as references.

These guys need to watch a video about special effects in Christopher Nolan films. The guy isn't a fan of green screen stuff so he does a lot of it in real places with practical effects. For example for Inception they actually created a spinning hallway that rotates and in Batman TDK, they actually blew up the hospital. Insane stuff!

00:34 in that case because Will Smith was a complete CGI render, that hat being blue didn't matter because it got replaced by a CG hat on top of his head as well. Having same color cloths as the background green screen or blue screen; they have a lot of techniques to get around those issues but most commonly, even with GS or BS, they end up doing rotoscoping for each character as that gives better edges.
Usually actors don't have a clue what's gonna be behind the green screens, but the way movies are made nowadays that the entirety of the movie would be made with a PS2 graphics with animation as blueprint called Previsualization, and then they'd plan out everything else after that, so even if the actors can't see what's behind the green screens, they have the Previz animation and also concept arts as references.

this is the very reason why i can't get into movies myself anymore, because in the back of my mind im constantly realising how it's all made which ruins the immersion for me. for that reason im only able to get into documentaries and things as such that i know for a fact aren't done in front of a green screen up on a stage.
