    spot on - all points.
    My brother is self employed, my wife is freelance graphic design. it's hard going it alone. really hard.
    The thing no one talks about it - when you're a W2 employee for a company - the employer and the employee split the bill on the social security contributions.
    If you're self-employed, you pay the combined employee and employer amount. This amount is a 12.4% Social Security tax on up to $168,600 of your net earnings and a 2.9% Medicare tax on your entire net earnings. on top of that... health care, retirement accounts like a 401k
    Everything Lydia said is right... you gotta bid it like you mean it because going it on your own you dont get the 4% 401k match, no health care split cost, no social security split. all this is baked into your bid.
    i get it why companies don't want to put people on the payroll. - it's EFFING expensive.
    hats off to the folks that go it on their own...it's hard work. dont bid it like you just need to eat - bid it like you want to retire some day.

    Thanks Lydia for this video. I find myself a lot of times under bidding customers, and having to go back over someone else's work. That's where I lose money. I paint interior and finish also, but one of my problems is I am only one guy, and a lot of times there is more work than I started out with. Thank you for the insight on a few of these points. Good advice. I know hangers that will come out for .25 a foot. I would hang it myself if it paid .75 a foot 😂

    Can you explain why X5 to come up with board feet?

    • @BodynHome
      @BodynHome 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      She did in the video
      1-Ceiling+4-walls= 5
      But as she stated, it’s not accurate. But if you need to provide a quick estimate it’s adequate.

      @nathanielcholei believe its her magic number she times the homes square footage by. 2000sf x 5 so I guess 4 walls and ceiling. Not sure if it equates or not. Try it on your own home and see how it works and get back to me

      Been in this business over 30 years. No 2000 8 foot ceiling hieght sf house is ever going take 200 plus board. Would have to be extremely cut up..... in the neighborhood of 150 is way more accurate...... would love this lady or people that listens to these bid against me

    I went to bid a job and a lot of red flags were thrown so i bid really high and the jerk asked why everybody is bidding high. I told him the only way he could get a reasonable bid was to lie and he sayed i would never do that! I found out from a person who got totally screwed and was so depressed about it i so i told him about the owner saying idignitly how honest and fair he was. He was described doing exactly what i said. Shame on me. I didnt expect that outcome,
