I used to shave everyday 1 pass with the R41. Today i'm a Envoy guy. 2 passes one wtg and 1 atg and that's it. You can perfectly shave with a R41 if you get used to it. 1 pass is enough. Now i do not use it 1 year since, except 3 or 4 times that i did not shave for 4 days. Great shave and fantastic soap Matt.👍
I just ordered a sample of this soap. My wife was born in 1988 so I had to buy it. I also ordered an Ambassador!! I'm so excited to receive it in the mail. I've actually gotten her into using a DE razor and she loves it.

I enjoy the Rex soaps and aftershaves alot. The soaps glide so well and the aftershaves sooth and hydrate. Love the scents too. I use an r41 every 2-3 days and these soaps perform great with it. Nice work.
Finally got the opportunity to try /use the 1955 a few days ago paired it with a 53 Gilette tech which had always given decent shaves with a few sweepers. This soap performed outstandingly the best shave with that razor. The scent really nice as well.
I agree with you on the cold water 😊. I do hot water prep then proceed with a splash with cold water and build my lather and rinse between passes with cw.
Obsession, Polo green and Fahrenheit were my first aftershaves in 1988 when I began shaving, and I still use them today. Can't wait to try this one though!!

I remember a video of yours from a couple of months ago where you mentioned you did cold water shaves. I thought about it for a couple seconds and went on about my day. You talked about it again in this video, and mentioned some benefits. So.....I went off and immediately tried a cold water shave. Well crap, look at what I have been missing! That may have been the most enjoyable shave ever for me. Looks like I'm a convert!!! Thanks again!!!! BTW - Love REX stuff. My 1988 should be here by Saturday :) !!!!

The new offering sounds great. Purple is the color of royalty. After more than a decade of traditional shaving, someone PIFed me an R41. It may aggressive but it is still refined, IMO.
Really high blade feel razors are great fun - on the right day when I am feeling either courageous (or like spitting gasoline on a fire). I always get great results, though. I love the concept for this scent. It sounds like a win for me. And the purple label is fantastic!! Epic stache for Movember!!
The most aggressive razor I have is a Merkur 37c. Slant bar is what I reach for if I want a quick efficent shave with heavy growth. But I have a couple of razors that are said to be more aggressive and they are not as comfortable or as efficent as a slant.
Used the R41 GS stainless today with a KAI blade. Felt like this version had a slight mod to the original R41 geometry. Close to a straight razor. Great shave, but I must say to did play with the angle. Lots of blade feel, so took my time, no irritation, and close as I could get it. Lots of prep and post shave though. Not my daily driver, but certainly heavy growth go to raizer. Have had a bushy mustache for decades. A bit of maintenance is definitely needed. The only more aggressive DE was when I used a Doble open comb. Fist pass no safety bar, the pass two plus with a safety bar. That was a challenge shave - despite surviving the shave, never again. Great vid Matt, enjoyable.
Nice! R41 is not comfortable for me, lots of folks like it, thought I would too but had to gift it. Soap looks great, tons of lather. REX Konsul is magic, love it. Thanks Matt!

Hey Matt! You should do a 1940s soap dedicated to the greatest generation of the WWII era! Maybe a camouflage label with a tank or plane on it? The R41 is why I don't like to describe razors as "efficient." When we said "aggressive" we all knew what that meant. It meant more blade feel. The R41 has a lot of blade feel, but it's no more efficient than a standard Super Speed. You just feel more of a scraping sensation. I think we need another term for aggressive or efficient. This is a good example of why blade gap is not a very useful number. It's a fairly small gap, but definitely not mild. I think you'd really love the Mühle Rocca based on the other razors I've seen you like. That's much closer to the Envoy/Ambassador. I'd call it the high part of the medium end of the spectrum, just like the Envoy. Btw, I've really been enjoying 1966!
The goatee makes me and many other men look older. You took five years off when you shaved that beard. I think it will be cooler for those 110 deg days.
Hahaaha you got me sold guy. I bought a tub of the 1988 earlier this morning after watching this lol. I usually don’t buy artisan shave soaps i normally use a Speick shave sticks. It’s quick and convenient just wet the face and rub the soap into my whiskers really well. then face lather plus i like the smell too. I’ve never used tallow shaving soap like the 1988 is ether. But i’ve been wanting to try a tallow base for a while now plus you’re a good sales man. And i actually think the purple on the tub looks cool. Anyway what is your favorite shave soap Matt or like over time what do you find yourself using the most?
Would love to try any of the Rex soaps. But when I ask my favorite European webshops to stock up on your soaps they tell me that the Rex supply co cosmetics don't comply with EU regulations :(. This way, we would have 1900, 1911, 1922, 1933, 1944, 1955, 1966, and 1977 (two years before the world ended in 1979). - About the Razor*: So you can never get close to an Open-Comb FATIP. * I don't understand why they call this razor an Open-Comb! The real Open-Comb is like Gillette's or Fatip's, but this just has a Closed-Comb instead of a Solid-Guard.

Over here in the UK,,, facial hair was demolished as soon as the 1980s reared it's head When I sport 2 days of growth I start to feel dirty . Stay sharp and on top of life , shave daily , and stay sharp looking !! The ladies love that .
I really dont get the r41. I have one and they look beautiful but its not a comfortable shave. Especially for wiry hair, maybe its better for finer hair. I have the Muhle rocca which is an aggressive razor but a much less uncomfortable shave. The r41 bends the blade at the wrong angle imo, its just a bit crap, too much blade feel and wrong blade angle. Parting the red seas Matt? Jesus I nearly choked on my coffee!!

Not a fan of the R41. Way too aggressive. I don't like to be totally shaving on eggshells with a DE. It takes the enjoyment out of it!
