Good morning, Mr. Trev I have to say this video was a huge help. I just unboxed my new toy and have to say I literally went back to the current project that I applied body filler to and went back down to the metal. Having the system set on auto allowed me to pull the existing dent on the door our and make it level. I am truly impressed with the machine and appreciate you taking the time to have it posted so I may follow. Thanks again and enjoy, stay safe. 1SG Medina (R) U.S. Army
Thought I would add a separate kudos comment. Not sure how I stumbled across your channel. I distinctly remember thinking "sure this guy can turn out this level of work because he obviously has metal brakes, english wheels, stock pile of forms and hammers". As I watched it was obvious you did much of it without those luxuries. You demonstrate what can be done, making due with what you have. Modifying what you have to do the task you need of it. Important lessons for any person regardless of their age or experience level.
Can't think of a nicer guy who deserves it more. Looking forward to the videos. The heat shrinking and taking the " oil canning" out of stretched bodywork will be very interesting. I did buy one of those stainless steel shrinking discs that go in the angle grinder but never really got it to work half as good as it does in the video.
Andrew Wilson thanks Andrew I’ll be showing you some good stuff for sure. This kind of machine without doubt will provide the most control when it comes to heat shrinking. Cheers Trev 👍
tom smith any heat source can be used for heat shrinking, the shrinking disc works by generating friction plus the pressure applied acts like the hammer action I showed using a flame. Any flame of course even a powerful hot air gun will create a shrinking effect if used correctly.
tom smith a piece of equipment like this would offer you the best results, I’ve had results from all methods and still often use a flame. If you’re unsure it’s always wise to have a practice on a scrap panel to get a feel for what you’re trying to achieve before unleashing tools on your pride and joy. Heat shrinking is a delicate touch and it is possible to make things worse. Good luck with your project. Cheers Trev 👍

Trev, a couple of quick things. I guess you may have seen Arthur Tussik's page where he uses this type of machine (albeit a more expensive Italian unit), to great success. He has made some natty tooling for use on sills and similar work, where either wriggle or post tabs are used. Other question, are the carbon rods, the same as those used in air-arc gouging? (gouging rods). I have followed your page since the earl days it was put on line and enjoy it immensely, as well as Urchfab, Arthur Tussik and almost every other page dealing with metal shaping, vehicle restoration, panel repair, welding and fabrication. I just found your channel and subscribed. I am pleased to tell you that my son and I just completed making one of these machines for his schools science project! It works even better than expected.! The accessories I purchased on line for 69 dollars. PS The auto/manual switch is for the timer. If you want an auto amount of time of wield per switch depression, you put on auto. That way you always get the same amount of time per weld on each and every depression of the switch. If you want to heat shrink, you switch to manual that way the heat will continue as long as you have the switch compressed, putting as much heat in an area as desired. (Manually overriding the auto timer). Nice machine and well done video.
Thanks Phillip your son’s project sounds interesting, I was toying with the idea of making a machine myself, possibly using batteries as the power supply. You can now purchase the accessories including the slide hammer etc very cheaply. Unfortunately the auto switch doesn’t work as you suggested, which is how I expected it to work, it has no timed function on this particular machine unfortunately. Cheers Trev 👍

Awesome kit bud, funny you purrrrrchased some China finest as i just got some kit from then yonder, shall post a vidja soon on it. maybe find an old sewing machine pedal for a trigger.
PIPER DOUG it’s just a very basic on/off micro switch in the trigger with two wires coming off it. So yes anything that joins two wires together would work. My manic brain was working on a way to create my own auto triggering device utilising the fact that the torch connection onto the earth is making a connection. A small electronic timer in between would create a neat delay before making contact. Just a thought at 4 in the morning... cheers Trev 😘

You should be earning a good wage with your skills, most people don't have much spare cash ,after life's expensives. The finger tool is used with the washer type as well , with a rod through the washers
Trevor - After seeing your video of the Dent Puller , I dropped the $$ to purchased on of Ebay to pull out a number of dents in my front wings. As you know the "instruction manual" that comes with the device is not worth the paper upon which 'its' printed -- So your VIdeo was EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE as to How it SUPPOSED to work. THANK YOU for MAKING IT !! The only thing is that not matter what I tried, I was unable to get the Negative tap to fuse to the metal - despite changing the power settings in every conceivable voltage level. It has since be shipped back to the warehouse ( the refund is a 'Story" ;-@ ) I was forced to used a Stud fusion spot welder and pulled the dents out with it. Although it can burn through the panels : -( Thanks again for make your videos !!! C
c herr to get the earth to fuse to the panel the threaded part needs to be wound right back so the the spike is making contact with the panel, both need to be very clean. The most important thing is to just lightly hold it against the panel. The harder you press it against the panel the less lightly it will fuse to the panel because you are making too good of a connection. The better the connection the less heat that will be generated and less chance of fusion. Cheers Trev 👍
@@trevsblog Trevor- THanks for taking the time to reply- Your a BUSY GUY !! As for the Dent Puller - the panel was bare of paint and sanded to a shine, I attempted every combination and permutation of voltage settings that the gizmo could muster - but no bueno. The machine was identical to the one you demo-ed too ! So I contacted the vendor for an manual ( worthless) or video that might explain what I was do incorrectly. The video they sent was not help. So I counted on your BRILLIANT video and by step through frame by frame- I matched my settings to yours, but still no bueno ! After two weeks of futzing - i shipped it back ( maybe to China) I then purchased at Stud welder with the odd slap hammer - Other than blowing a hold through the panel withe 3mm stud- I was able to use 2mm studs and pull the dent out albeit not as nicely done if I could have gotten the other gizmo to flippin' work. Do you have a complete video o how you made the rig to roll the sheet mer the bottoms of the fenders? the video you posted seems to have some missing footage .. ( Oppss we don;t do film anymore- sorry )
congrats on the new machine! Am I correct in understanding that this machine also does regular spot welds? Right now I'm narrowing down between this & an oxy acetylene welder to replace the one I left behind in Reno in order to move back to WA. If it can do spot welds for joining panels I may just go that way. On the other hand, a torch is always nice...
bobbofly not really, in theory it could do a single sided spot weld. It’s really for welding something to a panel rather than welding two panels together. Cheers Trev 👍
@@trevsblog I have, but the price keeps staying my hand. If I can find a decent used unit I might pull the trigger - but it'd have to be an unbeatable deal. Got a real nice Weld pak 100, but obviously it's a terribly flawed solution for sheetmetal. I've used it that way, but there's a LOT more grinding involved, plus the potential burn through issue, not to mention the distortion I wind up chasing around.
hi Trev thats a great bit of kit, is it possible to do spot welds with it possibly for those areas that u can't get a conventional spot welder in? thanks Pete
Peter Barton in theory it could be used as a single sided spot welder but how effective these welds would be is slightly questionable. It’s main purpose is to weld items to a panel rather than welding panels together. If you drill and plug weld with a mig welder you’re more guaranteed strength where you can’t get a spot welder in, I once saw a very lazy guy I used to work with, single side an entire quarter panel on. When he drove it into the paint shop, he drove the car up a ramp at an angle and a whole row of welds broke. Cheers Trev 👍
Trev's Blog thanks Trevor I’m in the process of attempting a rebuild myself and wasn’t sure whether to invest in on but if you reckon the mig is the way that’s good enough for me thanks Trevor keep up the good work Regards pete
Peter Barton that’s right Peter this is more of a repair tool rather than a welding tool. It’s confusing because it uses welding technology. Cheers Trev 👍
I've never used a welder before so please excuse my ignorance, but how do you not get a shock from using this when you're touching the end of the rod on the work?
Ashley Ford Ashley I’m sure Wikipedia could answer this better than me but think about electricity as a tank of water. The tap is voltage and the size of tank is amperage. The more the tap opens the higher the voltage. The more volume of water the higher the amperage. You can get an electric shock off an electric fence which will be around 10’000 volts but it won’t kill you because the amperage is very small. A socket in your house will provide you with 220 volts and will possibly kill you very easily because of the vast amount of amperage available. My spot welding machine output voltage is just 7 volts but has 3500 amps available, enough to melt steel but because the voltage is so low it won’t give you an electric shock. If you could increase the output voltage it would kill you dead. Cheers Trev 👍
Trev, many thanks for the in depth response. That makes much more sense now. I’ve only just come across your videos and I’m working through them all! Great content and you have a fantastic way of explaining things. What happened to part 3 of the replica Ferrari build. Is it still on the cards?
Ashley Ford Thanks Ashley unfortunately my boss that owns the Ferrari replica has decided to shelve the project, he’s got too many projects and a business to run so it’s been put aside. Cheers Trev 👍
Hey trev do you think it is possible to add a thread stud gun to the machine and use it for this Case? Both System work the same was with capacitor discharge right?
aiz234 yes it is watch this video. I believe it is a capacitor that discharges supplying the current for the weld. Cheers Trev 👍 th-cam.com/video/q9k0quG5lkk/w-d-xo.html

Does anyone know why my ground cable isn’t sticking properly, it’s barely sticking but then falls off and I’m touching on the pure metal that was sanded down
Just make sure the ground pin is clean on the end also and sticking out clear of the brass locking mechanism. Turn the power up, make sure that the slide hammer end is firmly pressed against the workpiece then don’t hold the earth pin that firmly against the panel only gentle pressure. If you press the earth hard against the workpiece you will be creating too good a contact, resistance spot welding increases efficiency with less pressure because you’re creating a resistance between the pin and the panel by using less pressure.
@@trevsblog My son and I built one with six times the better for his school science project! Awesome machine. I just commented on this very thing a few minute ago.
I found that really useful, as I've never understood the features of those machines, there is not enough steel bodywork on motorcycles to justify investing in one, but now you have explained what they can do, its got me thinking about the dents in bike petrol tanks-they are tricky and not really a job for the bloke in a shed to tackle, getting em sorted often costs the same as the price of that bit of kit, only thing is, I think bike tanks are heavier gauge than car bodywork for obvious reasons. The standard of kit from China has improved a lot now, so much so, that Chinese motorcyles are a viable buy now-even thinking of 125 for meself. I just found this video th-cam.com/video/EIQ-BmlllhI/w-d-xo.html , great to think that some of those cars may run again.
Hi Trev,If you need a foot switch... maybe try these guys in the UK. www.gordianstrapping.co.uk/Ask for a foot switch for an RQ8 Strapack machine.orwww.cyklop.co.uk/Strapping machines use foot pedals to initiate the cycle so the operator can close the carton lids with both hands to get a decent completed strap on the package. Maybe a cheap alternative. Cheers, and I am fascinated with your metal shaping skills.
Make sure everything is clean polish the tips with a surface conditioning disc, turn the power up higher if you can. Most important don’t apply that much pressure to the gun. The harder you push that pull washer or slide hammer against the workpiece the less resistance there will be, less resistance = less heat. Pushing harder increases the connectivity resulting in low resistance 👍
Richie Lloyd any part you want Richie, in the coming months I will be showing this tool in action, when you’re watching this bear in mind this fact. You contributed to the making of that video. Cheers Trev 👍

I cannot now remember exactly what I paid for it but it was certainly very cheap in comparison to a high quality Italian spot welder which cost thousands in comparison!
Trev, old bean, for a minute there you sounded just like one of those American TV evangelist, always needing a new jet airplane or yacht! But, you do good work mate!
Parabéns eu sou do Brasil gosto muito dos seus produtos de criação. Show.
please make a video showing how you make your line puller, and how you modified it for a foot pedal.
Awesome news 👍
You should be earning a good wage with your skills, most people don't have much spare cash ,after life's expensives. The finger tool is used with the washer type as well , with a rod through the washers
since you're spending the funds so wisely, i've sent more....
portabull much appreciated, I’ll repay your kindness in new content over the coming months. Cheers Trev 👍
@portabull may God bless you and your loved ones for your kindness and willingness to help others
It's gonna help a lot.
That's a nice tool.
Although it can burn through the panels : -(
Thanks again for make your videos !!!
C
c herr to get the earth to fuse to the panel the threaded part needs to be wound right back so the the spike is making contact with the panel, both need to be very clean.
After two weeks of futzing - i shipped it back ( maybe to China)
I then purchased at Stud welder with the odd slap hammer - Other than blowing a hold through the panel withe 3mm stud- I was able to use 2mm studs and pull the dent out albeit not as nicely done if I could have gotten the other gizmo to flippin' work.
Your Videos are EXCELLENT and extremely helpful !!
Althought I'd really like to see the rest of the video of the tool you created to form the bottom contours of the front 'wings" on the CA ... Your video had a portioned edited out :-(
CHEERS !!

@@trevsblog Trevor - Thanks for the Hint. I did try that method as well. No Luck I think the little beast go drop or beat up in shippment. It' also had a broken Carbon rod like your system. Maybe them came from the same factory in China ;_@
Good Luck with the Van !!!

Do you have a complete video o how you made the rig to roll the sheet mer the bottoms of the fenders? the video you posted seems to have some missing footage .. ( Oppss we don;t do film anymore- sorry )

Awesome tool!
Purchasing new equipment is so difficult these days everything is pricey.
20k subs incoming 😀😀😀
Jase Hs Thanks Jase I distinctly remember you leaving the same comment for 2k subs 😁cheers Trev 👍
HA - I will put in an order with SANTA to bring you some more equipment Trev.
congrats on the new machine!
Oxy-Acetylene setup, then. A needful thing anyway. Thanx for the swift reply! :)
bobbofly have you considered a TIG welder?
@@trevsblog I have, but the price keeps staying my hand. If I can find a decent used unit I might pull the trigger - but it'd have to be an unbeatable deal. Got a real nice Weld pak 100, but obviously it's a terribly flawed solution for sheetmetal. I've used it that way, but there's a LOT more grinding involved, plus the potential burn through issue, not to mention the distortion I wind up chasing around.
Awesome! Look forward to some vids of you using this machine.
Do you have a link to this unit?

Thank you
hi Trev thats a great bit of kit, is it possible to do spot welds with it possibly for those areas that u can't get a conventional spot welder in?
Trev's Blog thanks Trevor I’m in the process of attempting a rebuild myself and wasn’t sure whether to invest in on but if you reckon the mig is the way that’s good enough for me thanks Trevor keep up the good work
Regards pete
Peter Barton that’s right Peter this is more of a repair tool rather than a welding tool. It’s confusing because it uses welding technology. Cheers Trev 👍
Trev's Blog thanks would it be possible to us how to spot weld panels with a mig to leave nice results maybe on a future vid
Cheers pete
Peter Barton watch my very long ( sorry) video on heat distortion control. I show plug welding in that. Cheers Trev 👍
Nice video. Can't for the follow on videos. Keep the videos coming.
hi trev's thanks for video ,where to purshase one like that , thanks for help
Very nice trev
I just picked one up for 110 bucks looking forward to testing it out how has it been working for you Trev?
nice piece of kit, where did you get it?

I would like to see how you are using the carbon shrinking rods to do an actual job. I tried on a roof of a car but did not have success.
paky66 there are some subtleties that aren’t that obvious when using these tools I hope to be able to show these in upcoming videos.
Hooray
Hey trev do you think it is possible to add a thread stud gun to the machine and use it for this Case? Both System work the same was with capacitor discharge right?
aiz234 yes it is watch this video. I believe it is a capacitor that discharges supplying the current for the weld. Cheers Trev 👍 th-cam.com/video/q9k0quG5lkk/w-d-xo.html
@@trevsblog yes i watched both Videos but i wasnt sure if the threadedstud work on the little Spotter.
Thank you so much
aiz234 at 5:06 I’m using the single sided stud welder. I had to file the stud into a peak to make it weld.
@@trevsblog oh now i Understand! Really good. Thank you for this Video! You said need to put it in peak schape. THIS VIDEO IS 2 YEARS OLD. HOW IS THE MACHINE HOLDING UP? THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE.
It’s fine but I’ve not used it that much. Cheers Trev 👍
very helpful
Nice one, those things can be pretty aggressive
Hi Trev looking at getting the same model how highly do you rate it?
Kevin Lowe for the money its great, I’ve used better but for six times the price! Cheers Trev 👍

My son and I built one with six times the better for his school science project! Awesome machine. I just commented on this very thing a few minute ago.
HI sir , is it dc or ac spot output welder , does it spot aluminium , look at thanks
I built one that converts ac to dc volts. I do not know about this one.
Came here from an @Urchfab shout out

faizrul adek part 20 later this year 🤩
But can you spot weld with these as they claim?
Not really, it would tack things together but the weld wouldn’t be substantial. Fine for washer welding and heat shrinking 👍
Can you tell me que te can i ver tus tool and .how.much its the cost?
Ricardo Jimenez £240 . Cheers Trev 👍
Que buena maquina !!!
Nice! Where you can buy .

is the machine still working?
Only used a handful of times to be honest but still works well. 👍

The carbon shrinking rods are pretty useless for any heavy shrinking tbh, I could never get them to work on a few different type of machines.
Sean fox there are some subtleties to consider when using this kit and using them can greatly effect its effectiveness. Cheers Trev 👍
Hey Trev hows Pro Spot welder holding up for you? I am thinking of purchasing one after seeing you work with it.@trevs_blog

Mine won't stick
Make sure everything is clean polish the tips with a surface conditioning disc, turn the power up higher if you can. Most important don’t apply that much pressure to the gun. The harder you push that pull washer or slide hammer against the workpiece the less resistance there will be, less resistance = less heat. Pushing harder increases the connectivity resulting in low resistance 👍
if you were only doing this thirsty years ago.
This is a topic not well covered on TH-cam. Hopefully as you get more experience, we will too, ha ha.
spelunkerd apart from the fact it was the cheapest piece of kit I need to buy it is also an incredibly useful and not that well known. Cheers Trev 👍
