  • If you’re looking at the Beretta M1934 and saying to yourself, “this looks familiar,” you’d be right. The open-top slide design is also featured on the ubiquitous M9. The M1934, much like the M9, is the result of Beretta vying for a military contract. In 1934, the Italian army begain searching for a new sidearm, pitting the Walther PP against the Beretta M1934. Eventually, after a couple of design changes, the M1934 won the day and was adopted by the Italian military in 1937 when they purchased 150,000 of these little pistols. This sports the “RE” insignia on the standing for Regio Esercito or the Italian Army.
Chambered in 9 Corto or 9mm Short in Italian this could fire .380 ACP today. As mentioned, this pistol underwent numerous tests to defeat Walther for the Italian military contract and because of this you’ll find early versions with a unique slide safety. However, this was eventually abandoned in favor of a half-cock hammer safety. It proved to be a very popular design with a 57-year production run resulting in over 1 million pistols manufactured. Some of these came home as “liberated” guns in the duffel bags of GI’s returning after the collapse of Mussolini in WWII. This hammer-fired, single-action pistol sports a 7+1 capacity.

The holster looks like the model "concealer" from Bucheimer (and as far as I'm informed, it wasn't made for this pistol model).

That is a beautiful little pistol! Love it. I would definitely take that out (on occasion) & shoot it. Bet it could tell a story too... Thanks for sharing it.

My Dad brought one home from WWII. He got it off an Italian prisoner of war. He even had the original holster. We used to shoot it all the time. My Dad sold it much to my disappointment. I wish I had it. I loved that little pistol.

Must've gotten a good price for it, Because selling a gun with such history, and story behind it isn't something easy to do.

Does value increase if you have the military paperwork on the pistol from when prisoner was captured and pistol was seized?

That dude has hands like a wookie. Either that or it's a really small pistola. Probably the latter. Maybe. Surely

In the movie (hilariously M comments "nice and light, in a lady's purse, it has no stopping power", then replaces a gun in .380 ACP with one in .32 ACP).
In the original book it was a Beretta 418 in .25 ACP, and that made more sense.

The Beretta 418 was the gun Bond was using but the one they showed on screen looked like this one. The 418 was in .25 ACP. as where this was in .380 ACP.
