Pre 9/11 NYC was when the city was great. Even during the bad times of the 70s and 80s the city still had character. Today that character is gone. Not only did the people change but the feel of the streets have changed.
Listening to all these great NYC radio stations out on the coast or at Coney Island. Or just in the city on a hot summer day, so much fun so many good memories
The last years US radio stations had great programs and great jingles. I used to live in France at that time, and each year I brought a walkman recorder to get the best sounds back home from WPLJ, WMXV and Z-100 (1993-1994)

I don't remember these stations, because I was in Pennsylvania while I was on vacation in the woods. I saw the Macy's fireworks on TV and I missed the whole finale when I was gone straight to bed. That was sad.
Wow..HOT 97 has a real awkward feel to them in this aircheck. They have clearly begun their transition from dance music to rap/hip hop at this point. But it sounds like they are still trying to be both here. Never realized the transition was gradual and not an abrupt change-over.
