- We can't BEE-lieve the day has finally come! Beekeeping is something Jack has wanted to do for such a long time and after spending the last few months doing an introductory course with our local beekeeping association, we took the plunge and bought our first honey bee colony.
It's such an exciting journey and we are BUZZING to share more with you about these fascinating insects. Hopefully, one day we'll be able to harvest some of our very own honey!

Your best getting a second hive. Then if you need to requeen or anything bad happens you have a back up. I’ve been a bee keeper over 20 years so here if you need any advice.

I remember sitting outside the hive for hours! - just watching them come and go. I was useless!
Eventually a young house bee would start wagging, staring straight at me and I knew it was time to run for my life!

If you use a smoker the bees calm down so makes it easier to transfer. I remember going home on the London underground with a box of bees, it was a great way of clearing a carriage and getting lots of free seats! 🤣 🐝 Bee happy.

I was recently watching someone do the same in USA and was surprised how easy it was for you to do. They were utterly cautious, and full on with a smoker. I thought perhaps it was overkill with the smoker, but maybe American bees are different?
I think yours are having a wonderful house swarming party now, and seem very bee-autifully relaxed. 😊

I've been watching your videos since I found out I was pregnant. My husband and I also live on a narrowboat and wanted to find some inspiration/advice from other young families on the water.
We recently had a beautiful little girl, she's been a bit cranky this morning and all she's wanted to do is eat! She finally calmed down while I watched this and she had yet another feed. Thank you for creating such lovely videos and sharing your lives with us, and for giving us both a moment of calm. You're both so lovely and your little boy is gorgeous! Good luck with the bees

Welcome to the world of beekeeping! It’s such a fascinating journey that I know you’ll love! I’m looking forward to my second year harvest soon though it won’t be much this year as the weather has been not great for the bees. But there’s nothing like the first taste of honey from your own bees!

FUN FACT - Do you know why beekeepers' suits are always white? Because darker colours trigger the bees into attack mode! They think a darker colour - like brown or black - makes the bees think that a bear is raiding their hive for honey. It's a protective reaction from the bees to defend their hive against plundering bears - amazing!
