Embrace the rigour of street photography with my latest video, "The Tough Truth About Street Photography - with POV video footage in London with both the Ricoh GR3 and the FUJI XT4 with the 16mm f/1.4 lens. Lots of images thrown in for good measure." Join me in Tooting Market London as I deep dive into another POV video with commentary.
Street photography isn't just about getting out and hoping for the best; it ought to be a challenge at least it should be if you want to capture captivating street photographs and street portraits. It's hard work - the good kind - and should be treated with the dedication of any serious craft. I invite you, with these videos, to explore and investigate and challenge yourself. Let’s get into character.
Ever wondered why some street photos mesmerize while others fall flat? Often Street Photographers use a kind of 'Waiting for the Stars to Align' approach - hoping that the streets will serenade their lens with just the right scene. Many of us have been there, saying, "it didn't happen for me today." But there's another way - and I talk about that in this video. Stay tuned as we delve into my take on street photography and why I always shoot with intention, regardless of my mood.
Challenging ourselves is the essence of growth in street photography. I consistently aim to push beyond comfort, asking, "what am I not seeing in the here and now?" We need to embrace challenge; it's where the juice is. Whether capturing portraits for clients or the unscripted theatre of the streets, my intention is always to uncover what is not obvious in the first instant. This attitude extends to all weather, moods, and moments because the real lesson lies in overcoming creative blocks, not in waiting for inspiration.
True learning comes from making mistakes, pushing boundaries, and investigating our surroundings.

"What is it I'm not seeing?"... Excellent statement! I find myself asking myself that too! Yes... It takes work to wake yourself up to "seeing" a photograph! Well put!
Mate thanks so much. ☺️

“What if I’m on the street corner and nothing is happening?” I don’t ask what am I not seeing? I ask where are the people?
I live in Seattle, Washington. Since Covid the streets have depopulated. Outside of demonstrations or parades there are very few people on the street. Too bad. I like my images to have people in them.
I’m going to NYC the middle of September. There is a street festival I love to attend. During the day there are a lot of people on the street. People going or coming from work. People shopping. People on the street or subway. People are ubiquitous. London is that way too. I’m tired working tourist attractions.

Something is always happening. On every street corner. If there’s no people … then choose another street corner. Like the reality is there are two types of photographer. Those who find a way in and see magic in any situation … and all the others 🤷♂️
That isn’t a philosophical spouting off … it’s a stone cold fact of life 🎯
Yes, thats correct from 10pm - 4am there is no one on the street. In sydney australia.
👍
Thanks my friend
How do you deal with aggressive confrontations?
I don’t get them … :)
@@LASHMAR I need to be better
@@babettesfeast6347 if you’re apprehensive people will pounce
@@LASHMAR outside London people are deeply suspicious of cameras. I never hide what I’m doing and try to be positive. I do street photography in Newcastle and it’s very rare to see anyone with a camera.
