- SHOW NOTES
This upcoming TH-cam video explores the importance of setting aside personal judgments in street photography. It follows Lashmar, aka the Street Thief, a photographer, as he captures shoots images on on the streets of London. The narrative underscores how biases can prevent photographers from truly connecting with their subjects. Through Gary’s lens, the video reveals that by overcoming these barriers and engaging with subjects, photographers can discover the underlying similarities and humanity in everyone. The video promises a blend of artistic POV video accompanied by and talking heads back in the studio for and insightful commentary that invites viewers to see the beauty in connecting with strangers beyond the surface.

Great video Gary. As someone who shoots a lot of stranger portraits I can echo a lot of your thoughts. It’s easy to judge those on the fringes of society but I’ve had some of the most in-depth conversation’s with people deemed to be homeless or addicts. A lot of time when someone is shouting in the street or talking to themselves or acting up, it’s a defence mechanism. A few kind words, even just a hello how’s it going can break down barriers and open the door to some great opportunities. I also get asked many times to take their photo, when I ask why a homeless person or someone clearly having addiction issues why they want their photo taken, the answer is often the same; “so I’m not forgotten” . This is why I walk the streets every day with my camera to capture and persevere moments like this. Keep up the good work 👍📷👍
Thanks so much Chris :)
Just bought myself a proper camera for the first time in ages. Have been wandering the streets ever since, trying to, I don't know, broaden my horizon and meet all kinds of people. Your videos, especially this one, make me go from "how do I shoot this" to "why do I shoot this -- how does it make me grow as a person". Brilliant stuff.
My friend thank you so much for this wonderful comment. ☺️ and don’t forget I do instagram lives on a Wednesday at 7:30pm uk time :) always dropping little tips and stuff as do the others in the comments - very relaxed kind of thing
Well done, Gary mate. Thoughtful, astute, and sensitive. Photography to be proud of, too.
Thanks buddy
Fear, is it that we are afraid of ourselves? Or afraid of just how fragile and short life is? That we fear talking and interacting with others? Great video, smashing images!
Thanks Jake my friend
Howay man, this one has made a Geordie shed a tear it’s so beautiful in execution and sentiment. One of your best. 💯
Man thanks so much that means an awful lot :)
Brilliant Gary I have met loads of great people when shooting on the street.Real stories and proper characters

Love, love, love this CHANNEL! Thank you so much for sharing your life with us!😊
Man thank you so much for that comment :)
Love your work Gary, I was in New Brighton, Wirral just taking some snaps of the Street Art and checking out some composition ideas on the Prom for the Lighthouse and Liverpool Docks etc. There was a homeless guy, Carl, sat outside a shop with his dog, had his sleeping blanket etc, he noticed me taking photos and asked if I wanted to take his photo? I told him I had no cash on me but I may have some in the car and I’d genitalia him on my way back, he wasn’t interested in the money at all unlike most that ask you if you want a photo, I felt bad for judging him, he was only in his late 20s early 30s too but had no drink around him, was completely sober and locals were saying hi when they passed by so he was obviously no trouble, just down on his luck.
A big problem is all these fake beggars out there, they will argue with anyone that refuses them, making life so much more difficult than it already is for the genuine ones.
I’m still hoping to get down there at some point but things aren’t great financially at the moment, same as everyone so may be later in the year, if it is it will be September/October to make the most of the darker nights.
Yeah … and just focus on l the positive mate ;) thanks a lot
I love the challenge of asking strangers , not just for the image , for the engagement too . I’m a people person and I can talk for England so yes I love it, I don’t get many refusals in fact I can’t remember the last time I got a NO . The one thing most strangers ask is , what’s it for ? Or where will it be posted, and I always send them a large file for a print if they want it .
Brilliant John
Thanks for sharing those moments and your thoughts. You have inspired me to push myself to approach people and talk with them. I was successful doing this a few times when I was down in Santiago and came away with some nice memories and photos. I'm still hesitant to ask people for their photos but I feel I'm more aware that I want to take that step and ask. Cheers and thanks! Bob
Thanks so much bob

You’ll love it mate
Great stuff mate
Thanks Dean
Thank Gary yes I remember a few years ago when I was shooting Liverpool in Bold Street when a character asked me if I wanted to take a photo of him. Like you said that feeling when you. Approach someone and you are not sure how that person will react. Sometimes they ask for money or sometimes they just want you to take the image. Also a famous character called Bandjo Joe asked me one time do you want to take my picture which I did. Unfortunately he's not Live now a well known character in Liverpool. I live in Wirral Merseyside my favourite place is Liverpool for street photography.
I love Liverpool and Liverpudlians
I love this channel and your Instagram, you talk sense and explain things so good.
I might book a workshop with you.
