Leaves of Gold is put out once a year and is filled with poems, prayers, motivational sayings. A collectible thing that teachers, Sunday School teachers, etc. give their students. Or they used to. Or people give it to their mothers on Mothers Day. I'm only stating this from experience when I was younger. I don't know if they still put them out but they put them out once a year for decades.
We did garage sales a few times 8 years ago. Our time was not well spent, driving around the local neighborhood community sales. Same for the outdoor flea markets. We did find a few unique and desirable items, but not enough to justify the time invested. No consistency to rely on either. At the time, thrift stores offered more bang for the buck. I had already established new connections within the ebay Motors categories back then. When the "pandemic" kicked in, with restrictions at brick and mortars, my future was defined. It was business as usual at my Motors connections, due to it being considered an "essential" business. After the learning curve, which is still ongoing, there is no shortage of inventory, or higher end buyers.
Hi, I think you did pretty good with those candle holders. You might have been able to get a little bit more maybe $10 $20 more. Silver weighted usually means it contains about 10% sterling silver. In my opinion not worth the time and effort to melt it down for its silver value. More value in its current state.
Hi, Mike, you did the right thing by purchasing the silver candle holder, many people would still buy it, broken items don't necessarily mean they go to waste. They can be refurbish and the right person will come along for it. Thanks for all the great insight, I never thought of shipping as an expense, but as part of the process. By the way, you would make an incredible sales manager.
The base of those candles fits into single candlesticks as though they are the candles. They are a utility candle size and make individual candle holders into more substantial pieces.
Another good one Mike. Don't know much about them, but coincidentally, I have two of those Leaves of Gold (one listed comes in box - still sitting on it) and another to list at some point. As for sterling, if the piece is decent like a serving piece or such, or unusual or signed, e.g. James Avery, etc. I'll list on Ebay. Otherwise, I save it up to sell at spot price. Currently, it's just shy of $30/ounce. I'm holding a lot right now as the forecast on sterling is very bullish on getting to the $50/ounce range later this year or by mid 2025. So much like you talk about holding out for your price on certain things, I can be patient on the sterling as well.
Alabama is just insane. 103 degrees right now and high humidity. Being disabled, I can pass flat out in this heat. Right now, I have TWO window a/cs going. I hate to see my next utility bill.
At least it's better than when I lived in Tampa, FL. I was at a yard sale in Tampa one time and saw a beautiful sweater and I got it thinking I would get to wear it when wintertime came. I was thinking about that and couldn't wait until wintertime and then it hit me. The day I bought it was in FEBRUARY. Well, crap. Never got to wear it. I did sell it on Ebay though, but remember thinking dang, it's already winter and it's NEVER going to get cold, although there were times when it got cold in Tampa and it felt like it was freezing.
Hi. I lived in San Jose for about 8 years. LOVE LOVE LOVE San Jose. Within weeks of moving there, the art museum in San Francisco had a major exhibit of one of my fave artists. Loved the farmers market on the peninsula. Loved the restaurants, esp Asian. The estate sales in an hour radius were the best. Very sorry when I had to leave for my job. Sorry to hear that San Francisco has gone downhill. Very sad. If you can still live in San Jose, enjoy it!! Great area.
I suspect that people who do house clean-outs and storage-locker clean-outs in your area are doing pretty well. Competition is limited because you need trucks, a warehouse, and workers, which is not easy in an expensive area.
Believe me the locker game is expensive here. They are bid up big time. I went to a couple of Dave Hester locker events and the regulars are paying top dollar.
Thanks for the tip about not just rounding up to a pound. I have been doing that😂. Will stop doing that. I do know on 2 pounds to but exact measurements especially for clothing because if it just 1-2 inches thick you might be able to save money.
Hi! I have a question about consistent listing. I’ve heard of people saving up drafts to list consistently over time. Is there any difference in listing say 10 new items in each day vs. drafting a lot of items on one day and then posting 10 of those drafts each day over time.
Hi, we don't ship golf clubs because it costs us $25 usd because our shipper in Canada doesn't use ups anymore so we have to use usps... it sucks, because I can get golf clubs less than $5... I picked up 3 for $2, but at closer look at them they are rough 😔 lol... I like small easy shippers...headphones, hot wheels, costume jewelry, collectibles, vintage items and other! I been scanning magazines, manga and comic books... when we move to our shop, I will try other things to list! Have a great week 😀! Joe Bee 🐝 from 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 Canada!
@@goldenstatepicker Be great if you could use a screen recording software like OBS Studio (free) and show where the price is one cost, then show the changes entered & show how the price increases as the variables change. Know you're busy but that would be awesome!
You can still ship manga and anime media mail, but you have to buy MM postage on Pirate Ship. (This is also a HUGE problem with role playing books as well.) I was told the USPS threatened to sue eBay years ago and that forced them to limit MM shipping to only certain categories. (The USPS is not an entity anyone, even a big corporation like eBay, wants to mess with.)
I live in rural Missouri and I was just thinking about the decline in garage sales myself. I have seen a drastic drop in them in the past 5 years. We also used to have quite a few estate sales and estate auctions, these two have dropped off. I have to travel about an hour to find one usually. It could be because there are alot more ebay/facebook resellers that have popped up in my area. Why have a garage sale when you can get a few more bucks on facebook?
Great video Mike if you find out about the silver in those candles sticks can you put it in a future video so we could all know what value they are cheers Graham
As a quick general rule, you could assume on a weighted piece that 10% of the weight is actual sterling (this varies on what it is, the age of the piece and how much reinforcement there is). So a piece that weighs 300 grams, will have 30 grams of actual sterling when you break it up and pull out all the crap. Multiple that by .925 to get the actual silver content. Using ounces is deceptive because silver is traded in TROY ounces, not the ounces people see on scales.
I see Your New merchandise area...... Do You happen to have any VW Bus/Kombi stickers like on Your opening? I am a former So Cal guy and Air Cooled fan from way back.
Two Tips : 1) STOP using GOODWILL and other BIG BOX thrift stores as your MAIN SOURCE. WATCH the clip on here called "Where do goodwills best donations go?". AFTER you watch this clip - you will NEVER step foot in GOODWILL ever again. So watch it. 2) FIND a good FLEA MARKET in your area OR travel to one! More better stuff. More VINTAGE stuff. Better prices. FUN shopping . NO COFFEE MUGS and BABY CLOTHES and broken stuff from Marshalls . Than Me Later .

The good thing is that you sold IT! So, whether you could have made more doesn't matter.
Thank you for your tips.

Too funny about the B. Clinton dolls, Mike:) I love garage sales, however they are few & far between in my area.
Thank you for sharing, informative as always! 👍

Nothing wrong with holding the precious metals. Many do predict Silver to be going up.
OMG the Clinton dolls! How funny!! 🤣
YEAP! Sold them too.
My sales have been slow, but I'm posed for an increase this Fall.

It has cooled here. Even NC was in what they call a FALSE FALL when I left.

Wow, I saw that leaves of gold book today at an estate sale. I didn’t get it though.

Yeap. Be careful. Check it a few times and see what happens. Put in 15 ounces and then 16 and check to see if the price goes up.

I will use ground advantage on higher valuable books as media mail has no insurance.
I tend to too. Certain books I will say will not ship media mail letting the buyer know we want better service on the delivery.

It's hard in Canada. Only way to ship golf clubs is UPS.
Below 1 LB has 4 price brackets (1) up to 4 oz (2) 5 to 8 oz (3) 9 to 12 oz (4) 13 oz to 1 LB.
I notice that the breaking point is 16OZ at that point it jumps. So, I try and keep it at 15 or below

13-15.99 oz. You can pad 13oz, but if it's 12 oz you wouldn't want to. Edit, technically 12.1 (we'll say) to 15.99 oz.
