I am Catholic, and I hold a Master's Degree in English Literature. I love Flannery Connor's work, though it is quite dark. Remember that a dying woman wrote these stories...and like other famous southern writers, she used the grotesque to drive her points home. Note that she attended Mass every morning with her mother, returning home to write. She read Aquinas every night before bed. Her stories are full of Christian imagery, and moral lessons. Yes, the scene in the doctor's office waiting room is an enactment of one of Flannery's short stories.

Regarding the N-word scene, Flannery said “With deaf people, you have to shout.” Which she most certainly did in her lifetime . I think she would have approved.
As somebody who has read her stories, the movie was a real treat.

Wildcat is the best arthouse movie of the last decade and 100 times more Catholic than the superficial feminist propaganda movie called Cabrini.
