A true NFL legend. It's incredible to think about what he was doing in an age that was so run heavy And not to mention the fact that the db were clocking him every opportunity they got

Rest In Peace, Mr. Don Maynard. An original Titan/Jet and one of the greatest wide receivers not in AFL, but in NFL as well. I’ll always consider him as the East Coast version of Lance Alworth because Bambi was really a great receiver especially on his running ability. The AFL are always have a great wide receivers. One from the East Coast (Maynard), one from the West Coast (Alworth). Sadly he passed away 15 days before on what would’ve been his 87th birthday. RIP Country Don from a Raider fan🙏🙏🙏

Don’t get me wrong, Joe Namath is the greatest Jet of all time by merit (only MVP, only SB winning QB, only SB MVP, etc.) and along with Klecko, Curtis Martin, Revis & Winston Hill, they are some of the very greatest players of all time. Having said that, the greatest player in Jets history was comfortably Don Maynard.

At that hall of fame speech, those are true "shades." Little shades that cover the eyes that go UNDER the regular glasses. Sunglasses are a different thing altogether, where the lenses are the shades. Shades are what Maynard was wearing.

I followed that Namath pass vs Raiders. I think the design of the pass route is to leave space to Maynards' right.. away from the defender.. Namath lead Maynard towards the sidelines.. the Raider defender just couldn't get there in time.

I was born in El Paso, and he lived on the street parallel to ours. How I found this out was because I started dating a girl that lived in that same house and she told me do you know that Joe Namath has been inside our house, at first, I didn’t believe her but then when I did some research, I realized that’s exactly where he lived.

Big Jets fan, he's one of my favorite players of all time. Years ago I read a story about him where it said what town he lived in, and I thought I'd try to get an autograph. So I just called information and his number was listed, dialed the # and his ex wife answered, she was like, oh yeah he'd be happy to talk to a fan, here's his number. So I called and sure enough he answered. I just said I was a fan and he was really nice. I asked him if I might be able to get an autograph and he said no, cause people send him shit and if they don't get it back they get mad at him and he doesn't like that. So I said, maybe I could send you a mini helmet to sign, I'll include return postage, tape, and a sharpie, and if you don't have time to do it, consider it my gift to you, no worries. He was like, that would be ok, and so that's just what I did. We talked for about 45 minutes about all kinds of Jets related stuff, he LOVED the blue and gold uniforms of the original Titans, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, a few weeks later the package returned to me signed. Don Maynard, HOF 1987. Like an idiot it was a blue sharpie, whoops, but I still have it. Did the exact same thing with Emerson Boozer, he worked for the town of Huntington on the Island, and I have a mini helmet he signed for me too. I also have Joe Namath, but I have to buy that one, I doubt Joe's number is listed.

During that AFL championship against the Raiders, he constantly burned Atkinson. Atkinson was way overmatched in that game.
