Yuk! One of my least favourite jobs on my car so far has been restuffing the seats and replacing the diaphragm only to have it fail the first time I sat in it because of crappy replacement rubber parts ☹. Kind of fun to watch someone else do it though, thanks!
Oh dear, well, unfortunately, the quality of the products is out of our control. We can only buy what's available. You can always add a layer over the rubber diaphragm, but that's usually after the fact or fail, lol. These seats are certainly not easy to do.
That's why I gave up, put it down to experience, and bought re-covered MX5 seats - the Series 2 variety with separate headrests. Not only are they significantly more comfortable than the US 'tombstone' seats they replaced, but the steel seat tubs provide a detectable increase in body stiffness.
This is GREAT. I am about to do this same thing in a month.
