  • A terrifying subway shove during the evening commute this week was captured on video and police say the victim is lucky to be alive.
Exclusive video shows the suspect approach her victim and then violently push the woman right into an oncoming train.
The unprovoked assault was captured by police body-worn cameras at the Lexington Avenue/59th Street station.
Two officers were standing on the platform where it happened just after 5:30 Tuesday night. They jumped into action and arrested the suspect right away.

Not everyone is from the city so it's unreasonable to expect everyone to know what could happen. Some of the past victims were immigrants, tourists or non-natives. The MTA, City and State has a responsibility to protect the wellbeing of its passengers. Other countries have already implemented barriers to prevent suicides and these despicable crimes so there's no excuse for the city to ignore this.

I have lived in NYC for over 5 years. I always tell my siblings and friends to never stand anywhere near the yellow line. It doesn’t even have to be about someone trying to murder you. Someone could just accidentally bump into you, which is enough to throw you off the platform. Glad the women got caught though. People like that have no place in society-

It's right, there's no good reason to stand close to the tracks or even near the yellow safety line. It's not like you're actually saving time by standing closer, the train isn't going to set off any faster once you're on it. Don't put yourself in or even near harms way. Whenever I'm waiting for a train I'm usually sitting on a bench or leaning back on a wall or pillar nowhere near the track but constantly watching for the train and people watching, i like to see myself as a kind of unofficial lifeguard just in case there's any kids or drunkards going to near the edge of the platform or bothering anyone. Long story short my uncle is a train driver and he's seen people get hit up close and it was highly traumatic for him because there's literally no fast way to stop those things and it's a mess. I'd pull someone up off the tracks but i don't have any family or kids to look after, I wouldn't recommend doing it to anyone else but seriously folks don't go near the track or close to the edge of a fast flowing river or anything where your gut says maybe that's too close, trust that instinct because you might just be saving 2 lives, yourself and the poor guy like me who jumps in after you trying to pull you out to the side. Also if you see someone acting strange near a railway line report it immediately and keep an eye on them, if they're depressed and planning suicide you can talk to them but report it first and do not get too close to them if they are near anything dangerous, you don't want to get pulled in or over with them. Stay safe out there folks and try to smile, peace and love x

There are a few potential reasons I can think of:
      1) Cost
      2) Implementation on existing structures
      3) The modifications required for trains.
In London on the Tube, I’ve seen the concept implemented on the newer ‘Jubilee Extension Line’ but IiRC implementing it on an extension for a different Line has to be delayed because the current rolling stock doesn’t support it, although the stations have the framework in place.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these are only implemented on the Subway if either there’s a major renovation project or worse the cost of life becomes too great.
