I'm Irish and we do swim in the sea without wetsuits. The water can be cold at first, but your body soon adjusts to keep you warm and then you don't notice the temperature.

There are swim clubs (and individuals)who swim every day of the year, rain or shine, including swims on Christmas Day where people wear fancy dress. I’ve always lived near the coast, I can’t imagine not living within about 5 miles of the sea.

When you have watched in a week the video on London with it's rising rental situation and now this there is simply no comparison. For me it would be this beautiful place hands down every time with all the natural beauty which no amount of money can buy. It's stunning landscape is priceless and you are free from the stresses and strains city life brings.

We get Palm Trees here in Scotland because of the Gulf Stream, you can swim in the sea here, but it can be very cold and there's usually plenty of jellyfish where I live lol. I have done it a few times, and I didn't need a wet suit, in the summer at least.

Every part of these islands have beautiful scenery unique to where it is situated, I personally like the chalk hills and rough terrain of the South of England, but appreciate a change of scenery now and then. I lived in Ireland many years ago and one of the most beautiful sights there was the River Shannon in Limerick, Waterford is a beautiful place too. I should imagine an all round trip to Britain and Ireland would be lengthy and expensive, I intend to holiday in Ireland next year, Donegal and the North hopefully❤

I've been watching your video's for over a year now and I'm hooked 😆. I especially love how enthusiastic you both are about our country including Northern Ireland. I lived in Bolton for over 20 years where Fred Dibnah lived. He was one of a kind and had absolutely no fear when climbing the chimneys from a period in time that was unique and demonstrated the Industrial revolution we had. Most of the chimney's were from the foundry's and great big factories. I also love the tasting video's where Sophies eyes light up when chocolate or candy are in the surprise package. Sophie is such a polite child and a credit to you both. Keep posting those video's because i'm learning as much as you are about Great Britain. 🤗😍

Ireland is known as the 'Emerald Isles' because of the green. The Gulf Stream flows past Ireland and Cornwall making it warmer.

  • @trevorarnold5410
    @trevorarnold5410 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

The Gulf Stream brings warmth to the UK and north-west Europe and is the reason we have mild winters. Without this steady stream of warmth the British Isles winters are estimated to be more than 5C cooler, bringing the average December temperature in London to about 2C.

This island was a working, self sustaining Island of farmers and fishermen for centuries. Primarily a tourist location now, the stone walls and ruins are the last signs of that past. Emigration as well as famine and isolation took their toll on the population as did the harsh conditions of existence. It sits on the West Coast of Ireland, hard facing the Atlantic.

The further you want to hike, the quieter and more beautiful the beaches/coves are. Secret beaches and coves, dive pools connected to the sea at high tide and sea water swimming pools, although there’s not as many of those about now. About a mile from my house are sand dunes, which the kids love to slide down, making sleds from coats/wood/plastic bags, then if you walk on there’s a big river connecting to the sea. It gets busy sometimes, but “busy” is subjective.
But if you're prepared for a bit of a hike you'll find some amazing, beautiful coastal areas. "Hike" is also subjective lol.

The sea holds a huge amount of energy. It absorbs a lot during the summer months, and releases it during the winter months. Which goes some way to explain why the British Isles have both mild winters and summers. The rest of it is the gulf stream.

There is a thing called the jet stream here too, and does affect the west coast of Ireland and the west coast of Scotland, some areas in Scotland have palm trees growing and gardens that are protected can grow plants that are semi-tropical...I would suggest that if you come over, you hire a motorhome that you can drive to any place you want to visit, instead of `airBNB', you would save on this and eating out, you can cook your own when you want. I can see you all on the shore of a scottish loch, eating your supper!

The jetstream you get travels across to us, if you get hurricanes, we often get high winds, if the jetstream is towards the north as it crosses the sea, we get colder winds
If the wind is warm it holds more moisture, when that air hits the mountains on the west of the uk they are forced up into the colder atmosphere, the moisture drops out and we get rain
We can literally have 4 seasons in one day, i've experienced this.
I went to work one day (10 mile journey over a hill), dropped into thick fog, it was cold, we had heavy rain, hail, sleet, and back to fog, when i got home and told the family they said it was sunny all day.

Hiiii Steve and Lindsay, our weather is, in general, mild winters (-5c / 23F at night), sometimes we get a small bit of snow in winter (maybe) and in summer we get mild summers 21C / 70F ! In autumn we get storms and spring is usually awesome - bright beautiful crispy sunny days.
In stating all that, we can have 4 seasons in one day particularly in spring and autumn!
Also, every now and then, we can get a lot of snow in winter, even had a blizzard in 1981/82 and we can get 6 weeks of blazing hot summers up to 30C / 86F, we just never know when, especially due to geoengineering.
For us Irish, we get peed off due to the lack of sun and a lot of bleedin' rain!!!! 🥴🥴

I could be biased because I'm a Mayo man, but you could spend a life time in Mayo and not see all of the coast line or all the "hidden" beaches and islands along the way. And yes "empty" is normal.
As for the many ruins, that is common around in the west of Ireland. Probably most were abandoned during the Irish potato famine, while some relate to economic migration in the late 1940s to the late 1950s .

Us brave Brits tend to dip and paddle as the weather in Summer is what we are used to and Wild Swimming is popular here, but wet suits at the ready .

All through the West Coast of Scotland and Ireland are islands that used to be inhabited by Crofters . They were essentially very small subsistence farming enclosures with simple houses and animals .
The lifestyle was harsh as the weather is really difficult for much of the year . Supplies have to be taken over by boat .
This way of life is gone now . Most 21st Century people don't want to live this isolated .
In Scotland there are incentives for people to Croft and sheep and various hardy varieties of rare breed Cattle that can survive the conditions .
Wonderful to visit but like going back to living like a Western Pioneer Settler . Circa 1820s .

Regarding climate ireland is definitely more temperate than places at similar latitudes in the continental United States and Canada or eastern continental Europe. Temperatures here never go as low as those experienced inland on either contimnental landmass. Our winters can be quite chilly, but temperatures hardly ever go as low as -15 degrees centigrade - though we had -18 degrees during an exceptionally bad winter a decade ago. Temperatures of -3 to -10 would be more expected during an average Irish winter. Having said that, East European migrants living in Ireland (people from Poland, Lithuania and such countries) where -15 to -30 degrees are more usual, find Irish temperatures quite cold. They say that higher humidity makes our Irish winter temperatures feel much colder than their's back in Eastern Europe.
Ireland has much milder winters than are experienced in the US and Canada at similar latitudes thanks to the Gulf Stream oceanic current that carries heat energy from the Gulf of Mexico to our shores. Another factor is that Ireland is a small island not a continental landmass. The seas around us exert a moderating influence on Irish temperatures, an influence that is not present in the heart of the North American continent.

I think the cause of so many ruined and abandoned villages was the potato famine. So many people died or left, making villages unviable. Also the industrial revolution made people abandon villages for towns, where the work was.

yes the industrial revolution but elsewhere in britain or america as the industrial revolution passed ireland by apart from belfast. Before the famine tenant holdings were subdivided between family members however after the famine subdivision was abandoned and due to land reform the tennants became owners who left the farm to their eldest son instead of subdividing so the rest of the family had to leave. Its the same today in ireland ,the eldest son gets the farm or whoever wants it and the rest of the family become teachers, doctors ,accountants and so on.Of course nowadays most farmers have another job or their partner is working as full time farming is not really viable

You guys should react to F1, it's completely different from NASCAR or Indy. Cleo Abram has a great video for beginners (Formula 1, Explained for Rookies) and you could also watch Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna or even Romain Grosjean's crash. I hurts my soul to watch an F1 car crash, but it utterly destroys my heart to watch an F1 driver crash.

It's ok about the pronunciation of a lot of places in the UK. There are a lot of really weird names and even we can't pronounce half of them. If you're not from that place then you will probably pronounce it completely different to the locals.

@Joseph13163 my apologies. I did not realise that it was in the ROI. I was meaning in general of the British isles there are so many places around these islands that only locals know how to pronounce properly.

@@RyanJones-i8u Well he has no tricolour in the thumbnail which he usually does.As regards names thats generally true especially in small remote places they are literally only ten people that could pronounce some places properly.Up the coast from here there is a bay called sruwadiccon bay its pronounced Shroovadihaun bay and i only know that because an aunt in law who grew up there told me how to pronounce it.

The ruins are the remains of a village deserted during the potato famine, either because the residents died, or simply walked away and ended up emigrating.

that particular village though i think is a booley village.booleying was a system of transhumance grazing that is obsolete because all the farmer needs to do is gather up the sheep in a trailer and move the sheep to winter grazing.what you said is generally true but changes in agricultural practices are also a factor in the many abandoned cottages all over ireland.

okay I have let it slide on more than one occasion but I feel it is about time to correct you on the difference between the Gulf Stream and the jet stream the jet stream is self explanatory it is in the sky hence the word jet the Gulf Stream is in the ocean so the jet stream does not bring up warm or cold water
