A very very special anime, and his soundtracks are definitely of my favorites, they were very creative with that!
It's actually really funny imo but it's chock full of Japanese references that are mostly about current events at the time it came out. Studio Shaft is the goat tho and mc is voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya.
The humor is very japanese, a lot of japanese references of culture, history, social issues, etc.
It's a comedy manga that touch depressing issues, and the finale, well, if was a movie would be a psychological horror film.
All I can say is: Derek has very good tastes.

the title means "goodbye despair teacher"
the best way i can describe it without going to much into details is that its some kind of dark comedy about depression and suicide
the plot is about a teacher that is always saying that is going to kill himself but never does and an overly positive and optimistic schoolgirl that is physically incapable of seeing a glass of water half empty
its basically a social commentary on modern japanese society
Oh, a classic, I feel old now. This anime was... insane to put it lightly. I don't know what the creators were taking.

@@killyjoker7209 Absolutely right. This is probably the last thing I'd recommend to anyone that hasn't seen much anime. You would miss most references and it's not the easiest watch tbf.
That said, they just recently released the second season physically and it now sits on my shelf with season 1. Love that.
空想ルンバ means "Daydream Rumba". It is sung by a famous rock singer named Kenji Otsuki and five voice actors who appear in the anime.
Most notable is the composer/arranger, a man named NARASAKI, whose musical tastes are somewhat unusual, focusing on death metal, shoegaze, and easy listening, but often adding rumba, samba, bossa nova, and electronica.
NARASAKI's sharp sensibility is best illustrated by the sound of the band COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS.
Narasaki? The one who remixed Snowflakes for Persona 4 Dancing? That was my second fav song from that game

This will be a joy. The guy singing in all of these OP's is the lead vocalist of Kinnikushojotai, a really wild old school rock band, I absolutely love their stuff.
whoever recommended this has amazing taste. this show was a trip, especially rewatching after the trippier of the like three “choose your own endings” of the manga
The aggressive piano in the bg is so good, honestly the soundtrack and visuals for this anime are unique.
Oh GOD seeing Zetsubou Sensei in the title made me suddenly feel *old* 😭
I feel like nobody really talks about this anime nowadays, especially since the studio that made it has released so many series since then that became way more popular

A *very* weird anime, and so very Japanese... in a way it was educational for me though, because of its endless stream of cultural references 😅
I love it to death, but I don't know if I'd recommend it to anybody without a huge disclaimer about how bizarre and art-housey it is

God yeah it's always do funny when people see the Shaft things and attribute certain styles and directions as Madoka Magica stuff when SZS did it first (especially the stop motion paper art type things)

This song was my SHIT in high school! This anime is such a freakin fever dream and I'm loving a lot of the love it's been getting recently.
Ohhh mannn, never expected to see SZS here! There's lots of great music among the openings and endings with practically all of them sung by the VAs on the show. It's hard to recommend the show though since most of the jokes requires knowledge of Japanese culture and media, but if you just like seeing totally absurd characters in absurd situations then you're fine.

TBH, like Deadpool, it's a love story.
This is one of my favorite anime back in highschool days. It has 3 seasons and all three have banger openings and endings.
To that random patreon member, I don't know anything else about you but I must say you are pretty based.
SHAFT is an interesting animation studio. While most studios make one opening and one ending song, SHAFT will surprise you with a new song for damn near every episode, AND tons of music on the side from drama CDs and other stuff. They really like to mix things up.
I cannot express how hyped I am this is one of my favorite ost ever cant wait 2 more hours

Fun fact, this anime got 3 seasons and will never get a real official translation because the backgrounds are ABSOLUTELY STUFFED with puns, jokes, gags, and cultural references to the point where they'd need to re-draw 70% of each episode to put them in english. The blackboard jokes alone are 10-15 gags per episode.
This anime has also killed 3 Fan-sub groups who did translations of them with special moving subtitles pasted over/around these items.

Unexpected SZS, while the manga/anime's material is the sort of thing I've distanced myself from, I still feel very nostalgic for the music and the summer I randomly found the anime when I was 13 (2008 or so)

Great show and a pleasent surprise to see here! This show has multiple openings AND endings for every season and is definetly one of the most memorable animes I have watched. Also the main character is voiced by the same guy who does Levi in AOT and he got to sing an ending too -> ¨Kurayami Shinjuu Soushisouai¨

I forgot how amazing this series's soundtrack is, all tracks in that show had that kind of energy, I'll go back and listen to the entire thing again. Haven't heard this since the last episode aired like a thousand years ago.
I always change the music I listen to each season, but I always come back to this OST and a few others. These songs are just so energetic and meaningful to me.

Whats fun about this OP, and nearly all the OPs of Zetsubou Sensei, is the voice actresses, about like 6 or 8 of them, sing in the OPs.

I love that song and SZS, it's a very dark comedy and a joy to watch if you are in a right mindset! Tho I don't recommend it to people just starting with anime and japanese culture, it has many references to other work. Still a great anime!

Holy crap you've finally gotten around to hear Japan's best/worst rocker Ohtsuki Kenji.
Best in terms of lyrics + production (The guy won a Japanese Nebula Award, which is equivalent to Hugo Award in US, for his short story, literally a legit writer writer)

Oh, this is a nostalgia. The anime is so funny on the surface but once you read the manga final chapter, you started to see the whole anime and manga as something dreadful and just depressing as you got the whole picture.
