My parents came to my big band concert and even though they always talk shit about anime this song was their favorite among the 18 we played. We played John Was don’s arrangement though
I was not expecting to hear this song when I went to a drum corps competition last week. My daughter was wearing her cowboy bebop shirt and she lost her mind. It was her first in person drum corps experience and it brought her to tears. She's now determined to march with SCV. Which corps were you in?

What an iconic opening song. And, if you really haven't watched the show so far, I highly recommend doing so. I think it's a masterpiece and one of my favorite animes of all time. Dark, mature, but very funy. Great story and characters and one of the best soundtracks to any show ever.
I LIKE Yoko Kanno. I especially like the music of the anime GHOST IN THE SHELL(攻殻機動隊). "Inner Universe" "Rise" "player" These songs are sung in English and Russian.
Ghost in the shell : Stand alone Complex has such a great and diverse soudtrack All the openings are indeed in Russian/English (sung by the late Origa), but there is also great song in Italian/English sung by Ilarya Graziano (I do, I can't be cool, Velveteen...) and some... oddyties sung by the legendary Gabriella Robin (Kanno's alter ego) sung in "Kanno", words from different languages or made up that are put together to form a melodic gibberish (Tachikoma out for a Walk, Torukia, Cyberbird...)
@@cteal2018 true for “Tank”. But the show’s styles and influences are much deeper and more diverse than just that. The Cowboy Bebop OST runs the gamut between countless genres of music
COWBOY BEBOP (I understood the title is a reference to a 1950’s term for competitive horn playing) is my favorite anime series. It’s definitely worth watching. This recording (CD version) of Tank is different from the version in the anime opening, which is shorter and from a different take. The ending song, “The Real Folk Blues” is an awesome ballad. You should definitely react to more Yoko Kanno, and also more of Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack in general. I have a feeling you'd really like Rush especially
Yoko Kanno also did music for the Macross series of mech anime. Macross, while being a mech show, features female characters who sing pop music as a very prominent element. She actually used a pen name for.. I believe the lyrics for a lot of the Macross songs. She's done a lot more, some much more out there compared to Macross, but in my mind, there's something about being able to create both good pop music and all the rest of the stuff she's done that showcases just how great a songwriter she is.
If you check out The Real Folk Blues (both Japanese and English versions are great) be sure to also check out the Special Performance collab they released to youtube in 2020 as well. th-cam.com/video/8GwE0wwMmKE/w-d-xo.html Also there are a number of great songs off the OST, Gotta knock a little harder being one of my favorites.

Got to play this song for my last jazz band concert senior year of high school along with Pat Metheny's "The First Circle". Both songs contained some of the highest notes I ever had to play as 2nd trumpet.
Also I wasn't aware you had a Drum Corps background. The high school I went to had the only competitive high school drum corps in the states until 2012 when they decided to become a marching band (unfortunately this was my senior year). Never got to march DCI but I did a summer of DCA back in 2009 with a corps called the Sun Devils. To this day marching is still one of the most rewarding experiences I ever went through.
I had no idea that the Blue Devils were performing this song! I haven't really been following DCI for a while but you have reignited my interest. I have pleasant memories of going to a competition for the first time back in 2010.
With this intro you're missing out on seeing the visuals in the anime opening. It introduces the characters as the song progresses and the characters have their own theme to how/when the music comes in.
@@DrumRollTonyReactslol I think you’d be alright brutha , there’s a TH-camr that has a literal 30 minute breakdown of the opening and it’s visuals and how the visuals and music mix together to subtlety give context to each of the characters. It’s actually an amazing vid you should check out sometime just look up “what’s in an OP cowboy bebop” by “mothersbasement” . He’s a great content creator
MAN Tank is a banger. Somehow I forget and am surprised every single time. There's really not anything like it in anime - save for the opening to Baccano! If you want more big band grooves
Man and I said this in a previous comment but it's so good that every time you pause to comment, you give your thoughts and roll it back a fair amount - it's such a small thing but if there's ever a case where you pause at a really choice moment, it's not ruined. That moment isn't lost on you or anything. So many other reactors just kinda stop and go and miss a lot that way. Keep up the great work man
as a lover of cowboy bebop ( it is the first anime I ever watched) I would love to know what you think of the song "digging my potato" I honestly think it's one of the best songs in the series.
amazing song, shows lots of the stretngths (the flexibility) of Jazz. (in my eyes, not professionally speaking, Jazz / Blues / Funk sorta has that ability to fuse with things in things like R&B (Blues Brothers sorta taking slow paced stuff like Soul Man and Riot and make it more exciting witht the electric guitar/bass etc), afro Blues and so on. It's so fun. I once had a visit-thing with a symphony and I remember sitting in the back for a practice for over an hour and doing nothing. All effort was on the violins (understandably) but then my role was just as a silly background thing nobody would notice missing (really). Like a segment in a part of a thing in the middle part of a 30 minute thing. Symphony totally lost me at that (luckily) and I've had so much more fun with jazz / r&b etc.
While it is a very different style from most of the anime theme music you've been listening to, I think you might enjoy "Sono Koe ga Chizu ni Naru" - the opening theme for season 2 of "Snow White with the Red Hair". The anime is a romantic adventure, and the theme reflects that romanticism, but there are some very interesting complexities that are used so well that the casual listener would probably never notice them - but musicians (particularly the drummers, percussionists, and bassists among us) catch them with a smile 🙂
Originally I only heard the "Cut" version of Tank that was Q'd for the sixty second (60s) Anime Cowboy BeBop Opening. It was on youtube years later I heard the full version of Tank. I think it is interesting to see how the final televised edit paired down the original to just it's base elements to fit the air time/ length restriction. Next Up: TriGun
I have one an anime with a whole bunch of great songs you could check out. Its called Angel Beats! My Soul, Your Beats is the opening, Brave Song is the ending song, My Most Precious Treasure is one of the most impactful songs in the show, and all of the songs by the in show band, Girls Dead Monster, are spectacular. Especially My Song, Crow Song, and Alchemy in particular. I hope to see you check those out.
Would really recommend read or die (ova) and/or r.o.d. (ost). I watched my first read or die b/c the synopsis was so stupid and weird. It is actually pretty good though.
Here I was, having so much fun with the AOT video, about to recommend you to listen to The Seatbelts or Yoko Kanno in general (I recommend, insist, the things she did for the Escaflowne series), and was surprised to see this one! Because dude...this whole show and the music...almost no words for it. I'm definetly having the best time of my life here with you, even if you don't know about anime or a specific show I can see your passion for music, so thank you, keep it up!
I wish he listens to higher quality version like flac which has 700+kbps bitrate compared to youtube's 128kbps, it really does make a difference, you can hear whole lots of details
These soundtracks are littered with gold nuggets of big band and small combo scorchers. For sure checkout: -Rush (quick loud big band chart like Tank) -NY Rush (small group version of prev) -Too Good To Bad (New Orleans style w/ a sousa, Bari sax solo) -Gateway (fun 3-horn ditty with some fast trading solo sections) -Bad Dog No Biscuit (crazy chaotic almost Ska track) -Car 24 (almost no bassline, but great bass clarinet usage) -Clutch (real quick Coltrane-esque arrangement with soprano sax & trumpet) -What Planet is This? (banging funk-fusion track ala Tower of Power) I'd kill to see a corps take this on for a full show. But alas I will settle for the snippet from Blue this year!!
Once upon a time when the earth was just beginning to cool I played trumpet in a marching band. It was the junior band, and we had one number. 25 or 6 to 4. I rescued myself by trying out for and getting a seat in the stage band where we always played inside. Always warm. Always dry. I do love the big bands of the ‘30s and ‘40s. Still, if it’s got a brass section I will listen to it. Now, I’m going to listen to Tank again.
I haven't checked to see if you've reviewed more of Yoko Kanno's work, but I have to recommend you check out her compositions/tracks for, "Macross Plus". Some personal standouts are, "Idol Talk," and, "After, in the Dark," which also features Mai Yamane ("Tasogare") on vocals.
Reminds me a bit of the theme song to Johnny Quest at times. Edit: Fun Fact - Johnny Quest was one of if not the first soundtracks to use synthesized music.
Yoko Kanno, Joe Hisaishi, Kenji Kawai and Hyde (from l'Arc~en~Ciel band) are the anime composers I prefer. Good choice with Cowboy Bebop. :) You can also check "wolf's rain", "vision of Escaflowne", "Macross"... The songs from Kokia and Gakt are also very good.
Any Lupin the 3° fans here? We need to make this man listen to The Full Theme of Lupin of the Lupin part 4° Is something like Cowboy Bebop opening but I Hope You never heard It before.
You should react to Houseki no Kuni's Kyoumen no Nami. It's a really complex song Also the 5 openings to Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Every opening is basically the theme of the place the mc is in instead of the op to the show if that makes sense

I love Pat Metheny!
I imagine anyone who does a lot of jazz or big band work probably gets more requests for Tank! than almost any other song.
On the full CD collection there's an extra track with Ed singing the lyrics to Tank!
Yoko and The Seatbelts are a very tight band !
I had no idea that the Blue Devils were performing this song! I haven't really been following DCI for a while but you have reignited my interest. I have pleasant memories of going to a competition for the first time back in 2010.
AOT x DBD out today. Let's go.
Also thanks for reviewing tank
With this intro you're missing out on seeing the visuals in the anime opening. It introduces the characters as the song progresses and the characters have their own theme to how/when the music comes in.
And I'm also missing visual copyright ©️ so that a good thing.
Keep up the great work man
Recommend listening to ranking of kinds openings, great show, and as for you, great content so far, love to see you enter the genre
"Stardust crusaders" another JoJo theme, think you would enjoy it!
would love to see you react to some "Initial D" tracks like "Deja Vu" "Running In The 90's" and "GAS GAS GAS"
One of my favorites! Thanks, Tony.
Blues-inspired Jazz Funk
as a lover of cowboy bebop ( it is the first anime I ever watched) I would love to know what you think of the song "digging my potato" I honestly think it's one of the best songs in the series.
Amazing song
Man I loved your reaction, I want to hear you talk about music, especially the band sub genres man I was so interested
amazing song, shows lots of the stretngths (the flexibility) of Jazz.
You should check out Paprika movie OST. They are super unique and fun
Ooh I haven't heard this in a dog's age! Fricken' amazing song, amazing show, lots of references to good old music.
Next Up: TriGun
you should react to all the jojo openings! there are a few jazzy songs in there ;)
I am looking forward hearing more
I have one an anime with a whole bunch of great songs you could check out.
My fav intro to any anime. Just amazing.
PLEASE please do more Yoko Kanno. PLEASE
Would really recommend read or die (ova) and/or r.o.d. (ost).
I watched my first read or die b/c the synopsis was so stupid and weird. It is actually pretty good though.
Now I want to know what u think about Trigun opening
Masato Honda is the lead alto sax soloist. He's also known for his work with T-Square. Isn't he amazing?
Here I was, having so much fun with the AOT video, about to recommend you to listen to The Seatbelts or Yoko Kanno in general (I recommend, insist, the things she did for the Escaflowne series), and was surprised to see this one! Because dude...this whole show and the music...almost no words for it.
I'm definetly having the best time of my life here with you, even if you don't know about anime or a specific show I can see your passion for music, so thank you, keep it up!
I recommend checking out Lost In Paradise, it’s an ending to an anime called Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s super Jazzy.
More more more Seatbelts (Cowboy bebop ost)
Sound like something that Hoyt Curtin would have scored back in the 1960's.
i would LOVE to hear marching bands do this song. omg.
the "turn" when you get that blast of brass is sooooooo enjoyable
I wish he listens to higher quality version like flac which has 700+kbps bitrate compared to youtube's 128kbps, it really does make a difference, you can hear whole lots of details
I lost my shit when I saw DCI in Atlanta a month ago and BD pulled Tank out. It was so gooooood
The first time I heard "Too Good Too Bad" from "Cowboy Bebop" I immediately thought "Cool marching band tune!".
These soundtracks are littered with gold nuggets of big band and small combo scorchers. For sure checkout:
-Rush (quick loud big band chart like Tank)
-NY Rush (small group version of prev)
-Too Good To Bad (New Orleans style w/ a sousa, Bari sax solo)
-Gateway (fun 3-horn ditty with some fast trading solo sections)
-Bad Dog No Biscuit (crazy chaotic almost Ska track)
-Car 24 (almost no bassline, but great bass clarinet usage)
-Clutch (real quick Coltrane-esque arrangement with soprano sax & trumpet)
-What Planet is This? (banging funk-fusion track ala Tower of Power)
I'd kill to see a corps take this on for a full show. But alas I will settle for the snippet from Blue this year!!
you heard any other of the cowboy bee-bop soundtrack? and if not would you consider doing a react to it?
this theme is immaculate ah!!
Credens justitiam or Venari strigas, from Madoka Magica's OST, by Yuki Kaijura
Once upon a time when the earth was just beginning to cool I played trumpet in a marching band. It was the junior band, and we had one number. 25 or 6 to 4.
I rescued myself by trying out for and getting a seat in the stage band where we always played inside. Always warm. Always dry.
I do love the big bands of the ‘30s and ‘40s.
Still, if it’s got a brass section I will listen to it.
Now, I’m going to listen to Tank again.
Tenor-Sax here. The Sax section parts just sound so fun to play. Just the type of things I know I'd get elated while playing with everyone in BigBand.
As a jazz saxophonist, this fucking song gets me GOING
I haven't checked to see if you've reviewed more of Yoko Kanno's work, but I have to recommend you check out her compositions/tracks for, "Macross Plus". Some personal standouts are, "Idol Talk," and, "After, in the Dark," which also features Mai Yamane ("Tasogare") on vocals.
Guts theme,especially recommend
Please watch the show sir, its an absolute classic, one of the greatest of all time
Reminds me a bit of the theme song to Johnny Quest at times. Edit: Fun Fact - Johnny Quest was one of if not the first soundtracks to use synthesized music.
Jojo's OPs? They blow everyone away every time
DNA - The Seatbelts (From Cowboy Bebop Movie)
You should react the Jojo’s bizarre adventure openings like you did with the attack on titan openings
YES PLEASE
Yoko Kanno, Joe Hisaishi, Kenji Kawai and Hyde (from l'Arc~en~Ciel band) are the anime composers I prefer.
Good choice with Cowboy Bebop. :) You can also check "wolf's rain", "vision of Escaflowne", "Macross"...
The songs from Kokia and Gakt are also very good.
I forgot the "Akira" OST by Geinoh Yamashirogumi...
Any Lupin the 3° fans here?
We need to make this man listen to The Full Theme of Lupin of the Lupin part 4°
Is something like Cowboy Bebop opening but I Hope You never heard It before.
You should react to Houseki no Kuni's Kyoumen no Nami. It's a really complex song
Also the 5 openings to Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Every opening is basically the theme of the place the mc is in instead of the op to the show if that makes sense
I recommend listening to the OP’s from Tokyo Ghoul. You would enjoy those.
Man you really need to react to Persona5 OST. Trust me on this one
Listen to Space Lion...same album.
This is "The Opening" in the anime :).
you've got to react to the ending theme Rain
Guts theme please 🙏😁
You should listen to What Planet is This? From Cowboy Bebop!
I subbed cause you started talkin Tumbao I wanna hear more
I recommend Avidity from the anime 86. It’s really good.
