Well done Mark. Epic cars back in the day. I brought on when I was younger. In black. But a 1.6 as I couldn't get insurance for the 1.9 but got to say what a perfect car to have to put with your collect. Top man. Great video....Gino 😎👍
I’m 40 and just bought an e46 M3. This was one of the cars I wanted but could never afford. When I get in it I’m transported back to a simpler time. I love it! Enjoy Mark!
Don't say 30 years too late. You own it now, you drive it and it puts a smile on your face so totally worth it. It's never too late to do anything that you want to do.
Best car you've ever bought Mark, literally my absolute dream car! Not an exaggeration, my dream isn't a Ferrari, it isn't a Lambo, it is a phase 2, Red, 1.9 GTI ❤
Mine is a VW Mk2 16v - I share your comment. The Latest and greatest Fezza or Lambo is at the bottom of the list compared to 80's and 90's hot hatches.
306 GTI 6 for me…. 6 gears, 6 disc CD changer…. That’s was the dream - no one had one of those, we used to go past the garage and look at the one they had a dreamt. Class video
You tubers jumping on the 205 wagon! Love to see it. I have a K20 one and it's utterly mental! I've loved these cars my whole petrolhead life. Had a 1.9 at 18, wish I'd never got rid.
One of the best cars you have on your line up! love the peugeot 205 gti, it was my dream car since i took my license and got my first car, a peugeot 205 gr. thank you, i just had a smile on my face cause i felt you were really happy about this one.
Owned a few of those over the years. I can feeling the French gear shift now, you start off thinking it’s really loose but once you drive it a bit you realise it can be ragged through the box, up and down and was actually really precise
Great video - I remember this era so well. I was lucky and had the XR3i which was so amazing at the time. 😀 The 80s were the golden era for hot hatches and cars in general! Back then, cars had personality, raw attitude, engaging, and full of character. My kids have missed this experience and now with so much EV and Hybrid I am glad I lived in this era.
We must be the same age. I'm 44. I also wanted the 205 GTi 1.9 but I wanted it in Miami/Tahiti Blue. I never got one and by the time I could afford one, they had all rotted away. They are massive money now though....but my mate had a 1.6 GTi in red (that's now pink) and those red carpets and black leather seats....man....they are good cars. Love your work Mark. :)
Bless senna she’s lovely..congratulations mark on living out our/your 50 yr olds dream…I always wanted one too drove a few but insurance said no so ended up with a nova sr
I am 49 years old and this was dogs dangaly bits. If you could get something like this nowdays it would be amazing. Light weight. Handles well with suspension travel instead of it being as hard as a rock. And enough power instead of 500hp you just dont need on the road. A just back to basics car that drives well and is fast enough for the roads. Great chioce mark. Enjoy.
Smashed it lad. Great to see how down to earth you still are, a proper enthusiast, not like some putting a bottle of prime in a circle of all your car keys and smugly saying which one of my cars am I going to drive today!? Seeing how buzzing you are buying an old Peugeot and enjoying the experience more than buying a 3/4 hundred grand super car. Stay you bro and keep up the good work.
Mark , in 1987 I had a 309 GTI in dark metallic grey ,with the same engine , that was a great car and I do regret selling it in 89. Enjoy this one. P.S . Senna is a star
Oh the memories of old skool youth. When I was approx 16 I loved the mk1 Uno Turbo and always wanted one, it wasn’t until 23 years later in 2016 I finally bought one. Scary to think back in the day all these 80s and 90s hot hatches could be bought for a few hundred quid but now you’re looking at 10k+.
Such a nostalgic video, immediately regressed to my inner 19 yr old self! All that you’re missing Mark is the amp and bass box in the boot 😂 I had a XR2 and desperately wanted the fiesta R/S turbo which I finally brought for 6k. I lived on a council estate where every other night someone was either getting their wheels or stereo nicked so it was permanently garaged. My daily driver was a £250 escort as I was so scared to put too many miles on the fiesta. I had it super chipped at fords which took it from 133bhp to 175bhp. My biggest regret is I never fully utilised the RS and had the full fun experience in it that me and the car deserved! Thanks for the video and cue a load of 40 something men driving to work like lunatics after watching this 😂😂😂
That is mint, I’m so jealous. It has always been the car I always wanted when I was younger. Unfortunately, I ended up with an MG Metro 😆. Great video, you are going to turn some heads with that. Nice one, well done. 👏🏼👍🏼
All the more reason to thoroughly love mark, such a genuine bloke! That's cool as mate! For my it was the MK1 mx5 as my dad had one growing up (still has it) and I've had 3 now, still got one for the last 5 years and I love it to pieces
A lad at work is rebuilding/restoring (even had the chasis dipped) a 1.9 red phase 2 GTi from the ground up he got it for £1000 about 9 years ago when he was 18 and he's just about got around to finishing it. We're peugeot / mazda (weird mix) techs and he's an absolute finatic, he helps out fixing classic cars, vans and planes in his spare time and the thing looks perfect.
My first car was a 205XS. I loved that car and dreamt of the Gti. Such an epic little machine. I used to drool over the Dimma kits back in the day there was nothing quite like them.
Mark, thank you for this. We went through a rough patch few years back, and my dad bought us a Clio 3 1.6. I never liked Renaults, but that car made me fall in love with the Clio 3 and dreamt for years of owning the Clio Rs RB7. After 12 years I have finally made my dream come true. It's not perfect, needs a few things to get it there. It's something you cannot explain to someone but it's really special. Like you mentioned, people say never meet your heroes. But I am glad I did. I prefer it over anything else. My happy place is behind the wheel of that car and every time I drive it its almost emotional as I am reminded of the hard work and time spent to get where I am today and every time it reminds me that every second and sent on the way there was worth it. Enjoy your little gem.
Still got my Uno Turbo, owned it for 24 years and it's not going any where... I know Mark once you get hold of your childhood love you never let go, memories are golden!
Gosh i just love how you took it around for a spin, brings me such nostalgia for a time i wasnt even born in yet! My one car from middle school which was an absolute baller car that i thought i would be getting was an e39 540i black on black with tinted windows because a guy that was 18 years old from the blockgot it from his dad back in 08 and all of us kids were amazed when he rolled by, window slightly open, blasting local hip hop music 😂😂😂
All those newer cars and the thing that makes him smile the most is an older car it's nostalgia biting back mark ! LOVE IT ! MY FRIEND HAD ONE ! and I got lift to college in it back in the day!
Good on you Mark! This is still one of my affordable dream cars that i always wanted to own. The 1st being an E46 M3. Now i have to wait, maybe some day i will own both a E46 M3 and a Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi! I love how your content is so down to earth! Keep up the good work Mark!
The squeak is the heater fan. And both the top dash compartment and ash are all broken. Check the sunroof drains or you will be getting very wet when cornering. The sun roof seal it a very clever design if you watch it when you release the handle it sucks down with vacuum allowing you to slide the roof back assuming that still works aswell.
Brilliant and love a 205. Fascinating that all the dream cars of your fellow TH-camrs were hot hatches, well except Shmee who wanted a warm hatch. They are the kings of performance road cars.
I remember a very spirited drive in my 106 GTi chasing a friend in his 205 1.9 GTi. Great fun, great drive, and no interference from the fun police that day. Pure driving pleasure until my brakes finally gave up the ghost and I had to stop to let them cool off a bit.
Great Video Mark and a lovely motor... my Dream Car when I passed (1989) was a Sapphire Cosworth, but like most due to insurance & cost was out of the question so I got a VP Metro, then a MG Metro and then after that a MK2 Escort (wish I still had that)... but quite happy with rolling around now in a ST Estate 😎. Keep up the great work x
I hate seeing youtubers say "i've bought my dream car" in like 14 of their videos and they're all brand new lambo's, porsches etc... THIS is a real dream car! proper car.
When I was a kid it was a 405 Mi16. My dad had a new 405GR at the time and they had an Mi in the garage I got to look at when he picked it up. A few years later when I could drive it was a 1999 BMW 328Ci. I compromised with a Clio 1.2RT
At nearly 60 this was my dream car when I was younger. Over the years I had planned getting one but never did. Sadly to much money now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Congrats mark on getting your childhood poster car. Really special. The sentimental value is more than even the revuelto or the sf90. Pure smiles per mile car. Do drive it and enjoy it.
The sierra RS cosworth was the dream for me back in the day Good on you Mark , getting to relive your youth. What about the one that was out of most people’s league. Lancer HF delta turbo 4x4 , they are worth a fortune now
One of the best feelings is watching such videos and then buying your own dream car afterwards. I've been watching Golf 5 GTI DSG videos everyday until i got me one by a sudden chance, and oh my god that was the best feeling ever, the car I've been watching for so much and so long on youtube I am finally inside my own and driving around town, best feeling.
I love the school, but I would’ve definitely gone for the Vauxhall Nova mrk -1 but it is nice to see some oldschool cars on a decent channel for once! We need more of this type of content, Mark! ❤
The 205 1.9 GTI is still one of my fave cars I've owned.. but it didn't feel as quick compared to the 5GTT.. you just looked down at the speedo and it was doing 90 and you realised how quick you were going...... the 5GTT booted you in the back and threw you down the road pressed into the back of your seat as the boost kicked in.. which is a bit more exciting to drive.. both great cars! I still have the 5GTT but it is rarely used and under covers.... but seeing the 205 brings back some good memories! 😎
Loved 90s cars and still do. Back when I were a lad 😂 max power mags, Titty posters and a cherry bomb exhaust I saved and saved and saved bought myself a red top astra gsi, Turtle wax polish out just had it to the local audio shop for some new 6x9s and a alpine head unit, Not more than 8 miles from the place I binned it into a wall. 24 years later I still feel sick about it 😂😂😂😂
I had one of these in cherry red back in the early/mid 90’s. Nearly went for a Renault 5 turbo but was put off by the hot start problem. Loved the pug and sold it for about 4k if I remember correctly. My next car was a Mazda MX6 which was also nice with a bit more room when the seats were reclined, if you catch my drift!
I think you should definitely buy some more cars like this and you should go through the stages of modifying them like we would’ve done in the 90s and early 2000s you would pull in a completely different crowd and it would be refreshing and very nostalgic to see that content. I don’t think I would be the only one thinking this??? ❤
Looking forward to this Mark, I have had many many cars over the years and now have a few 205’s! 1.6, 1.9 and Mi16, all cherry red lol love em, keep the great vids coming cheers 👍🍺
Lovely 205. A company called Tappers might be able to sort out the interior for you. They do lots of car seat and furniture repairs. They are located in the Midlands.
Youve just gained an extra 50 kudos points with this purchase. Incredible motor, and uber cool. As im a couple of years younger than you, my teenage dream motor was a 306 D-Turbo 3dr. Loved Peugeot before they went all mainstream.
I was going to say I'm jealous after watching you buy my dream car but I'm not jealous. I watched that with a massive smile on my face. Seeing how happy it made u and how much it meant is exactly what my reaction would be. I'm over the moon for u. Hopefully one day that can be me too. Enjoy it and congrats
A car that I nearly died on yes on! When I was 14 in 1990/91 (phase one I think). Head on collision on my chrome mongoose bmx, no brakes down hill into a stationary pug 206gti 😂. Several broken ribs, knee, toe, nose, skull fracture and a minor brain injury/speech impediment. Serves me right! Keep up the awesome stuff mark.
Omg 😮, you have taken me back to my ♥️ red GTi 1.9 🍒 Cherry on the cake, my black one owned also 1.6gti .. fantastic cars ...had many classics from Renault 5 turbos , Fords brilliant buy mate 👍
Vive le hot hatch! Love it. I had a 90 H plate 1.9. Steel block and alloy head, you have to wait for it to properly warm up or the head gasket will go.
The body style reminds me of the first car I bought in highschool it was a dark blue 1986 Mazda 323 hatchback and I installed a banging stereo system with subwoofers in it, it was amazing 😍
I saw a video a few months ago back of a Peugeot 205 1.9 Griffe. Now I love the 205 1.9 GTI but didn’t have any knowledge the griffe version even existed. So if your looking to add another to the fleet I think the 205 Griffe would be another rare car to add to the collection 👌🏼😎
I fell in love with the XR3i when I was 10, but by the time I could afford one when I was 18, they felt a bit chavy, so I bought a 4 door 1.6 ghia. Much more classy. Now I am 52 I have an escort mk3 XR3i cabriolet, and I smile every time I drive it. The nostalgia is deadly. Great video Mark as always. You should race Darb in his 5 turbo and see who is the king of the boy racers.. That would be a great video. Can U Not Try..
I had an Mi16 engined 6-speed (from the 306 gti-6) 205 gti back in the day. 1999 to 2008! Loved that thing. Was well rapid as the bhp/ton was high. Peugeot Eccosse kit in it too. Spent way too much money on it and sold it for way too little! Wish I still had it tbh! 🙈🙈🙈
Was trying to explain about pullout stereo's to a wipper snapper the other day and how if you had a face off stereo, you were cutting edge. You needed the clifford alarm and a big bore 4 for the full package.
When I was 14 (1998) one of my mates got a bonus from his job and went and bought a black Escort RS Turbo, blacked the windows out and stuck a cherry bomb on it the day of collection, 5 of us bombed about with about 100 little tree air fresheners hanging off the rear-view mirror and blasting happy hardcore. We drove about all all night, the escort RS Turbo will live in my head for ever. He bought a fiesta XR3i about a month later and wrote it off 🤣
Back in the day I always drove escort mk2s, rather than go xr3s I went 205 GTi white 16 then got red 19 non sunroof , loved them both but the 19 was the ultimate with my mates, I now have another escort mk2 grp4 rally car which I restored for 5 years and that is my keeper summer car , well done mark 👍
Awesome little car mate, i had friends who had them, we would often follow the Circuit of Ireland Rally and i remember these were a liitle twitchy on the limit. Myself and a good mate chose Suzuki Swift GTi's as he was a Suzuki trained Mechanic, we modded them with some Group N mods, they were absolutely brilliant, a Rally driver friend of a friend tried mine as he said he wanted one for rallying, it was the most scared ive ever been in my own car 😂, he went straight out and bought one!

Had a 306 rallye for 6 years, awesome car and really reliable.. After the first cambelt broke!
The 205 1.9 GTI was an eye opener for me back in the day, it was so rapid compared to anything else I'd driven in at the time. A proper hot hatch.

205 GTi 1.9 is probably the best 90,s hot hatch
Those things were quick in the day and handle like they are on rails
Brilliant purchase 👍👍👍
I hate seeing youtubers say "i've bought my dream car" in like 14 of their videos and they're all brand new lambo's, porsches etc... THIS is a real dream car! proper car.
I had several 205 gti's back in the day. love them! I put a 1.6 gearbox on my 1.9. The shorter ratios made it way more fun to drive on twisties!
The sierra RS cosworth was the dream for me back in the day
Good on you Mark , getting to relive your youth.
Congrats mark on getting your childhood poster car. Really special. The sentimental value is more than even the revuelto or the sf90. Pure smiles per mile car. Do drive it and enjoy it.
The sierra RS cosworth was the dream for me back in the day
Good on you Mark , getting to relive your youth.
Congrats matey
@@MarkMcCannMk2 Thank you very much, I congratulate you as well, enjoy this beauty of a car you deserve it 😁
Great video as always 😅👍🏻.. its probably the best feeling packing your family into your 80/90s dream machine 💪🏼🙏
I had a White 1986 "C" 1.6 "back in the day", was one of the best handling cars i have ever driven to date. Loved it !
13:49 😂😂😂😂 someone should meme that
I love the school, but I would’ve definitely gone for the Vauxhall Nova mrk -1 but it is nice to see some oldschool cars on a decent channel for once! We need more of this type of content, Mark! ❤
The smiles From Mark is so real.
Its weird...whenever I get into my Honda ballade 87 model I tend to smile waaay more than our modern sports car. 😅
Smiling from ear to ear for you Mark, nothing like getting your Teenage dream car. Love it brother
I'm so excited for you mate, dreams come true 🎉
Your daughter is amazing!! And I guess that what she said about buying another car indicates that you and your wife are raising her well!
Lovely 205. A company called Tappers might be able to sort out the interior for you. They do lots of car seat and furniture repairs. They are located in the Midlands.
An amazing choice Mark. Great example. Takes me back to the 90's, my mate had a white 205 GTi 1.9 whilst I had a Clio Williams 1. Good times!!
Youve just gained an extra 50 kudos points with this purchase. Incredible motor, and uber cool. As im a couple of years younger than you, my teenage dream motor was a 306 D-Turbo 3dr. Loved Peugeot before they went all mainstream.
Really smashing these videos!! Another great watch thank you
I was going to say I'm jealous after watching you buy my dream car but I'm not jealous.
I was lucky to own two 1.9s and one 1.6 all graphite grey when I was 18-20 years old, awesome cars. Would love another one. Enjoy Mark!
In the 80’s/ 90’s I had a phase one 1.6 in silver with the Peugeot motor sport decals & later a 1.9 in Miami blue .Actuality preferred the 1.6
Vive le hot hatch! Love it. I had a 90 H plate 1.9. Steel block and alloy head, you have to wait for it to properly warm up or the head gasket will go.
Your daughter's comment - brilliant! :)
The body style reminds me of the first car I bought in highschool it was a dark blue 1986 Mazda 323 hatchback and I installed a banging stereo system with subwoofers in it, it was amazing 😍
Mark mate you are a joy to watch, especially the family bants 😂👍🏽
I saw a video a few months ago back of a Peugeot 205 1.9 Griffe. Now I love the 205 1.9 GTI but didn’t have any knowledge the griffe version even existed. So if your looking to add another to the fleet I think the 205 Griffe would be another rare car to add to the collection 👌🏼😎
Congratulations Mark and fammy..
Love that Car from when we were young..❤
Copenhagen 🇩🇰supports
You needed the clifford alarm and a big bore 4 for the full package.
this is the kinda car purchase im all about.love the old skool stuff.i nearly bought a British racing green 205 Roland garos auto.enjoy 👍
11:10 the parking 😭
Straight out of the 90s
14:15 Mark you give me jokes.. he took it there with the sergio tracky 🤣🤣💯
Well done, Mark! One of my favourites
I had 1.6 GTI white back in 1995 and he gave me so many headaches and problems, but I was enjoying time with it when he was running well :)
Great video Mark, when I’m not building massive cabins, I might get into cars 😂
He’s a happy camper that’s for sure look at his smile while he’s driving it 👍
