As explained in the video there is that hadith that talked about the souls in the soul realm, which is a mystery to us but it provides explanation about the soul mates and all. But again, nothing is proved or disproved. In Islam all about the soul is from the "ghaybeyaay" things that only Allah know, we are just trying to understand it. Hope that answers your question

The standard is the quran and the ahadith (sayings) that match or agree with it.if by "authentic" you mean sahih bukhari,sahih muslim etc , then the problem is they have multiple sayings that contradict other sayings in the same book.so the standard should be quran and ahadith that agree with it.at the end quran is the core of our religion.it is important to keep an open mind to accept the true knowledge when it comes our way.may god/allah guide all of us to the best path.
