This is from a week that we did at this jazz club in Tokyo called The Satin Doll. In the center of Tokyo. And the audiences were fantastic. It was either 1985 or 1986. I had the pleasure of playing piano for her. Frank Collett
FRANKENTWO ..Doc I'm a musician and I'm going mad listening at those chords on piano!!! The best I've heard on this song!! Especially at 1:35 at "walk my way"... "I'm about to use that progression or chord structure at my church real soon..
Sarah Sarah Sarah..lady, I adore you. There will never be a voice like that again. She takes you up,down and all around and in-between. This is truly jazz royalty...bow down to the Queen.
Sarah's vocal cords took her down to a baritone range all the way up to soprano with all different qualities as she conveyed the meaning of ever word. She was a jazz performer like no other. And those three lungs of air that she controlled to phrase the music with her own signature. Johnny Mathis, who is credited with having the greatest hit of Misty, mentions Sarah's and other's names of those who preceeded him. Each version is worthy of being in the music hall of fame!
I loooove Miss Sarah. What always tickled me was her speaking voice vs. that singing voice. Cigarette smoking notwithstanding, I've never seen such breath control. Forever Sarah Vaughan.
I would never could say I am bored listening to her and/or Ella, Both great artists, wonderful persons and best singers. I've met both of them in Buenos Aires.
If i'm not wrong, this was one of her last public performances, in Japan. She was really an outstanding singer with an amazing vocal extension and voice colors.
Sassy Sarah Vaughn, with a voice smooth as silk. She was one of the greatest jazz singers that gave the world beautiful, soothing music that could tame the tazmanian devil.
They say nothing's perfect- but I'm sorry- her voice was........ silk & satin just flows from her when she sings. Thank you Mom for giving me my ear & my love of music. Sara was one of my Mom's faves & even when I was a liitle boy & she would play her records on Sunday afternoon, Sara's voice would stand out to me. It was an instrument. My Mom was a big fan of Frank, Ella, Billy E., Sammy, & Joe Williams & Tony Bennett. I like them all, but Sara's my fav!!!!
I have listened to few of her versions , i have no preferences all are my favourite, all have their korky difference , none the same recording! Just wonderful!!!
Awesome!! Her "duet" version. Love it. (My mom was a contralto basso, so I adore the mischievous playiing around here. Sarah Vaughan and her 4 octaves. 😍)
@@monicabella7894 Not even in the same category really. Billie was a wonderful interpreter but she wasn't actually that great of a vocalist other than how distinct she sounded. Sarah Vaughan is hands down the greatest American vocalist of all time. No one compares to the control she had, the range, the interpretation, etc.
A true great. I love it!! the band are great nothing good makes television now thank god for u tube telly is dead. Its nice to see a woman singing with soul emotion and gusto what a vocal range. Quality
Where are these smoky old nightclubs, now? These were the places to go for romantic evenings, nights and falling in love. You wore evening gloves, had champagne...... Oi!!!
LETRA.- Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree; And I feel like I'm clingin' to a cloud, I can' t understand I get misty, just holding your hand. Walk my way, And a thousand violins begin to play, Or it might be the sound of your hello, That music I hear, I get misty, the moment you're near. Can't you see that you're leading me on? And it's just what I want you to do, Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost That's why I'm following you. On my own, When I wander through this wonderland alone, Never knowing my right foot from my left My hat from my glove I'm too misty, and too much in love. Too misty, And too much In love.....
Her voice got deeper less sinuous. My father sang in her circles before WWII, along with Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey. Both real characters by-the-way.
I was too Misty...
@MNJetter Great song, and a great performance from Sara. Try to get the version of a Spanish group called "Lone star" He was the voice and played piano also. Great and different version His name was Pedro Genè. You wont regret

FRANKENTWO.. Thanks for sharing. What an incredible experience you had, playing piano for the great Sarah Vaughan.
Pure magic. Musical telepathy. Much respect.
Amazing, so unbelievable to live that experience
You play piano on this amazing rendition of My Funny Valentine on her “City of Lights” album. Live show in Paris. You’re an excellent musician.

I once stood right next to her at the Black Orchid club in Atlantic City but was too awestruck to tell her how much I loved her work.
This performance leaves me breathless... Uncomparable Sarah !!
Everytime she sings, her renditions sounds so special & true. She's a rare and gifted artist who can project the mood of a song with life and soul.
Girl friend is every inch Talent.....RIP.....With all my respect....
Why is it that Japan seems to have treasures like this for upload. Thanks, Japan, keep em coming!
Sassy Sarah Vaughn, with a voice smooth as silk. She was one of the greatest jazz singers that gave the world beautiful, soothing music that could tame the tazmanian devil.
Blessed that my parents turned me on to Sarah 50 years.............Her vocals still after all these years take my breathe away.
I love how she names what’s coming up next and within moments the floor gives out and we’re right there with her.
Most jazz makes me want to sing.
Sarah Vaughan makes me want to listen.

Sarah was and is the gold standard for classic jazz singing. Simply superb from start to finish.
Her voice aged like fine wine.

She's the undisputed masteress of the slow meandering melody.
Now she had skills and that’s why she’s my favorite singer
My favorite pre-1990's jazz singer. (Rob, U.S. "Water Belt")
Splendidly heavenly and succulent!
Lucky Frank to play with that a godess of jazz and blues. Her voice was unique.
Sassy always bring me to tears with this song
Still studying her splendid jazz voice.

Extraordinaire tout simplement!
Aplaca as dores do corpo e da alma, deixo minhas crenças ao largo, e passo a viver no limbo do seu canto.
What a Lady.
Minha Patroa é a Elis Regina, ela a a Patroa da minha Patroa.

Wonderful as expected. As always.
Are you sure this was 1990?

Can someone please tell me if this was her very last show!! I understand she unfortunately passed this year.It was definitely a deeper connection.
There are five people on here who don't know a damned thing about great music
@MNJetter Makes me think I can but I know I cant in public. Certainly won't sound or give the feeling like this.
@buffalmacco76 You're right...I knew that too! Thanks for keeping me straight.
You're wrong. This show is from her 1985 Japanese tour. She died in 1990.
