Truly bizarre situation...
Lewis fell so deep under Bankman's spell that he still has not climbed out.
You keep trying to drive that narrative and it is nonsense. Just look at the most recent reports from the bankruptcy. They found pretty much all of the money. Without claw backs! The only dispute with depositors now is that the value of crypto has gone up and they're being made whole based on the valuation of the assets at the time of bankruptcy. Nobody is saying that the company wasn't a mess and crimes weren't committed. It was a mess and crimes were committed. But if the outrage and sentencing is based on how much money was lost then you have to think about the simple fact that the money was found. Yeah, there was a run on the exchanges and depositors weren't able to withdraw. Yeah, SBF spent money and allowed the exchange to launder money. He gambles with depositor's money. He committed crimes. Michael Lewis has never defended the real bad actions of SBF. It's simply not true.
I have never seen a man act so defensive.
Fascinating.
Lewis's entire brand is built on him being insightful and a deep, effective reporter on issues exactly like this.
He got hoodwinked by a kid who couldn't even get away with his own schemes. He believed and reported on things that have been debunked by other journalists, journalists who had far, far less access to SBF. And more fully debunked by the findings of the court. SBF kept Lewis on a leash and made him beg for his supper, and it shows, even if Lewis can't admit it to himself.
Lewis should probably just admit that he didn't do due diligence on this one. But I suppose that'd be borderline lethal to his brand. Which is probably why he's doubling down.
Lewis is always trying to set up underdog stories. He never allows facts to interfere with his novel.
Lost all credibility. Gone. Forever.
Lewis is not sophisticated at all. His book Flash Boys was so simplistic and misguided.
So many people so invested in a particular portrayal of bankman fried. I suspect the real person is so much more interesting than our fixed vision of him
Agreed, the speaker is actually my dad and this just popped up on my TH-cam recommendations and I've talked to SBF and he's actually a really interesting guy, he beat me in chess.

@@walkjac after some review, I think you might be telling the truth and please listen to me: DELETE YOUR COMMENT. You do not want to tell people you are related to someone who is well known, like your father. Social media gives awful people the opportunity to thrive. Someone who sees this might target and harass you, following you around TH-cam and other places. They will draw attention that you do not want, they will cause you many headaches, and arguing with them is pointless. Take care, and do not listen to what anyone online says about your father - they do not know him like you do.

You didn't know that he was convicted and sentenced to a prison sentence? Does any of your ignorance really refute what Michael Lewis has said here? No!

this woman wants an easy villain and unfortunately for her, and like most things, it's far more complicated. Lewis did a great job speaking to all those lazy people who haven't taken the time to look even a little under the surface, using her a a perfect proxy.
