Mine broke over a month ago while I was in a parking lot. Went to put it into park and the button broke. I’ve just gotten a replacement for it and your informative video will make short work of this. Thanks for the explanation! You get a follow from me. 👍🏻
Thanks for the video! Nicely done! I checked today...at Honda shop, the parts desk told me these parts cost $149.00 ..FOR THE PARTS ONLY! True story. Peace.
Perfect vid. Was a super easy fix. Don’t forget that if you’re testing before reassembly, PRESS THE BREAK. (Not gonna lie… It took me a hot minute to realize what I did. 🤦🏻♂️) “Then” it’s a quick fix. 👍
@@DavidTheMechanic is there supposed to be any plastic behind that metal rod? I think that is what is preventing me from pulling it back. Mine broke off and some of that black plastic crumbled
There's another video, by Diycarmodz, that gives somewhat different instructions. That video suggests separating the top from the bottom of the shift knob by twisting them apart and then removing the side plate from the inside of the knob rather than by using a screwdriver to pry it apart from the rest of the knob as this guy suggests. I did it this guy's way and found that part of the side plate was broken on the inside. Don't know for sure that it was because of doing it his way, but the other guy's way seems a lot safer.
I just watched the video you were talking about and he did basically the same thing but instead of prying it apart from the outside he used a screwdriver to pry the locks from the inside with I would have used a pic instead of a screwdriver but I've never had any problem with that plastic breaking on anyone that I've done before maybe this is a problem that others have experienced that I'm not aware of.
so all our shift knobs are taking a crap on us?? LOLL my 05 accord only has 70k miles and the shift knob fell off like and the plastic inside was in terrible shape lol
He showed you how the assembly goes together and I showed you that the Spring Rides on the nipple that's inside the handle you just drop it in the hole put the side panel back on reinstall it and put the screws back in

Good morning! Great video! Where did you acquire the parts to replace this? AutoZone said they did not have it. Thanks
Once the knob is removed anyone know if it will be able to shift without it?
I dont have the part yet so what did you press down to pull the shifter with your thumb? Like what did you press to pull down the shifter?
I just took my finger in the hole and you can fill the rod and you just push the rod down
@@DavidTheMechanic is there supposed to be any plastic behind that metal rod? I think that is what is preventing me from pulling it back. Mine broke off and some of that black plastic crumbled
@@fiction5346 If you look at the video you can see that there's a rod in the center of that shifter and you can push that rod down

I wouldn't know any other way then trying to pry it apart because it's a snap-lock

Mine did the same with the button coming out 😂 these Hondas I guess. Only car that has done this to me
Did u have your car on or off when you shifted gear to 2 in the beginning?
I just had the key in the Run position and press the brake pedal. Be sure to set the parking brake or chalk the wheel
Thanks, i have honda accord 2004. I dont see any Run position. It has 0, I, II and III. Should i pit in II before changing gear?

I like the video but it skips steps... A family member has a 2005 Accord and I'm hoping to change this part later on today
I just re watch the video just to see what you might be talking about and it looks complete to me hope everything works out for you
I did this but in my case the button stays “pushed” inside and it doesn’t come out easily like yours
@@kasielisabelrodriguezzacar2611 that's very curious I wonder why that is maybe a piece of the plastic is broken

Part number?
That's been so long ago I can't remember but I'm pretty confident I got it off of Amazon
It’s super easy to find, I guess I was being lazy lol, thanks for the info
Why not change the whole knob? It’s like 10 bucks
Yo send me the link to that @jmemixx
