Ok... I bought a 340 PD when they first came out. I carry it. the PD is 12 ounce. it is a bear to shoot. I don't care. it hurts to shoot my Federal 125 grain.... I don't care. But... but... how can you practice? I ...........Don't............Care. I have been shooting off and on J frames for half a century. What do they have in common? I mean they are all different right? People get all into how this one differs from that one etc. No... they all ............shoot......the same. Gasp! Shoot one good you shoot em all good. Blasphemy right? My 340 PD at 10 yards my first two shots are dead on and into 3" which is exactly how every J frame shoots. After that massive flinch. who cares? things are not the same in a tense situation. My only tense situation was (with a 4 legged) with a 44 mag. in close quarters without ear plugs. I did not feel the gun going off. I barely heard it. My ears did not ring afterwards like they do even with earplugs plinking sometimes. My PD has maybe 500 rounds? through it? I don't care. I have also put a few thousand rounds through j frame 38's during that time period. To me.... if you cant hit a 5 gallon bucket with one at 50 yards or more then you simply don't know how to shoot a handgun much less a j frame. If you can? then you can with any ... meaning.........any.. j frame. Put half a dozen on a table from all years and styles and shoot em. They all shoot the same. Which is.... way better than most people think. Before someone calls me a liar I would challenge them to try it. If they are a lousy shot? they will be equally lousy with every single j fame end of rant

timely video for me. I love my 642 and just picked up a 640, got a feeling when I get the hang of it I'll want to try a 340

The 340 is a handful with certain loads. I think it is manageable with the right 357. But it will have a little more "kick" to it than your 640. I'm happy I bought mine

Bought one of these about 6 years ago. What you want for carry is Speer Gold Dot 357 135gr Short Barrel #23917GD. IF they ever make them again. Over my crono they average around 1075 fps. which is perfect. They give much better energy and expansion than 38+p but are not excessive for the J frame.

Lot of recoil in the scandium J frame. It’s not a Range toy but you have to practice. I was thinking of getting a 3 in 686 or maybe just practice with 38 loads

so we can shoot any 38 and 357 as long as over 125 grain right?

The M&P340 can shoot any 38s, 38+P, or 357 Mag ammo of any weight. The 340PD is limited to 125 or higher.

The limitation in the PD is due to the Ti cylinder.

Appreciate the video, I'm about to purchase mine. I am getting the SW MP340 instead of the SW 340PD because I like that there is no grain restrictions, The 340PD must shoot hotter then 120 grain , I know there is a 2 ounce difference , my service life I was carring off duty and on, G19 & G26 so honestly I don't care of the weight but I really like is the varity of caliber (.38 or 357) that can be used in the MP340
Thanks for the video and your opinion, All the best.

Also... besides the ugly factor? I hate any sticky grips.. why? I carry mine in a pocket. what is the point of having a small gun you can carry that has no hammer showing and is melted if you screw the whole idea up with something that won't come out of your pocket without taking the pocket with it. mine had rubber sticky grips that were HUGE laughably so like your tape thing. Yes.. they were more comfortable to shoot but... now are in my 'box-O-useless-grips' now it has 'secret service' smooth wood grips.. More pain but more gain. I can carry it in a Levis hip pocket and no one ever guesses I have a gun. No one. And it comes out like sh#t through a goose. recoil is unimportant. When you need the gun what is the most important thing? That your hand may hurt when it is all over? LOL... I postulate that not being able to get the gun out of your pocket is way more important.. and.. not having to carry in a manner that shows you have a gun on you is way more important but.... as they say "your mileage may vary"
