Is The Poppy War a standalone?? I love me some fantasy but I never complete series. Goodreads doesn't list it as the first in a series but I've been fooled before haha

I can’t remember if you’ve read the name of the wind by Patrick rothfuss or not, but it’s pretty dark and grim, but the humor balances it out nicely!

I thought Red Sister was pretty close to The Poppy War. Mark Lawrence is a lot darker, though.
