Also VERY glad I found your video. You demonstrated how the Holsters worked, their Pro's & Con's and most of all the Belt attachment versus the paddle. I have one of these and used it in Arizona for my Springfield XD without the Paddle and wish I had used the paddle. Now I have a M&P 9 and will be using the paddle CQC version. THANKS
GFO270 can this holster go with like a sig saucer P226 E2 because i want it for christmas anyway and i wanted to know if this can fit a WE Sig Sauer P226 E2 airsoft pistol because i want one for the WE P226 E2 Air soft and my dad a Black Hawk Holster but for his Sig Sauer P229 because he was in DEA for thirty years
Operate the Serpa trigger with your finger extended and it works great. The problem comes fron Newbies with Golcks with ghost triggers, stab at the Serpa trigger with their finger tip. It's all about trigger cisalpine and training. The Serpa is a outstanding system.
Excellent video. Even after all the hype about the "inherent danger" of the location of the release lever, I still have to agree with the reviewer that it's hard to imagine such poor muscle memory training that after releasing the catch the person drawing the weapon would proceed to grab and pull the trigger. I'd say that if every product which 0.004% of the users of said product found a way to hurt themselves was take off the market, there would be virtually nothing to buy at all.....just my two cents, ymmv.
My wife bought me the Serpa Sporter for my Sig 226. Living here in California the only way I can use it is when I go shooting at BLM. Your review was very helpful.
Outstanding Video, You have shown me enough to purchase the CQC SERPA and I can only say I am extremely pleased with it on my XDm!!! There is no way there could be a better holster for my use. Thank you!
My sportster standard CQC holster came with the paddle, a belt loop attachment, Carbon Fiber, a Matte finish, and no retention button, only a small screw to make it grasp the handgun tighter.
6:50, that's what thigh rigs are for :) Great review! I've always bought the CQC version without even knowing the difference LOL. Thanks for the explanation between the two. I love the Serpa system, I've owned 3 (sold one due to selling the gun, didn't need it anymore). I use one for my duty carry for LE, and have one for off-duty. They make a larger version of the LVL 2 retention for duty carry that extends the pistol a little bit from your body and drops it a little bit. Also some guys I work with really like the LVL 3.
Good video, I have two holsters and with very little practice the release becomes second nature. And the fact you can lock your pistol in the holster securely, no matter what position you may find yourself in. The military, police, and others, have been using them for some time now. Don't get hung up on the release compared to all the benefits and safety. Nay Sayers, you practice to load, shoot, disassemble your firearm, then practice to where your trigger finger should be, for safety.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but isn't the fact that one is more tight than the other is simply because default adjustment of the fitting screw is slightly different? And also thank you for the review it was very informative and cleared my doubts towards these two holsters. Cheers and stay safe!:)
Also, it has the holes for the belt securing hooks, and the box says it comes with them, but it did not. The only thing sort of like it that came with it, was these little plastic things on the belt loop attachment for adjusting for different belt sizes.
Thanks man! I'm glad you like it! Everything you see in the video, with the exception of the mag pouches, I got from lapolicegear. I was able to put my holster on the vest using a BlackHawk S.T.R.I.K.E. CQC Ambidextrous Platform. I have another video with the components of my vest. It might be helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions and congratulations on your new holster!
Very helpful. Sold I'm getting two for my sig p229 & p320. Their not expensive either. Been wondering about them for a while. Like the locking mechanism. Don't see how there could be a misfire but, anything's possible when it has to do with guns.
the accidental discharges came from hitting the release button to hard when drawing and having you finger slip into the trigger. Of course these typically happen during stressful situations. Another issue is having a little rock enter the release button and jamming it and locking the firearm in there.
Ok, I have to straighten this video out. Both holsters are made of polymer. The carbon fiber is APPEARANCE only. It is not made of carbon fiber. It simply goes through one more process to give it the carbon fiber appearance, which is why it cost more. If it was actually made of carbon fiber, it would be MUCH more expensive than what it is. This information was obtained from BLACKHAWK today when I talked to them on the phone to find out the difference. Police and security may want to opt for the carbon fiber appearance because it is nicer looking and has a more dressy look, that's all. Even the description on Blackhawks website says : SERPA® CQC® Concealment Holster Carbon-Fiber Finish. FINISH!!! Not made from carbon fiber, as Blackhawk told me, it has the APPEARANCE of Carbon Fiber, it's not ACTUALLY carbon fiber.
I had the Sportster for my Glock 22, and sold that Gun with the holster. Now have a CQC level 2(dipicted in your video) for my Sig P220 Elite Dark. I don't like the paddle's. The paddles are also meant to go inside the waistband of ones pants (not comfortably). The Sportster is more for the concealed carrier where the CQC's level's two and three(especially level 3) are meant for Law Enforcement. The CQC level 3's have the hatch on top to add even further retension and protection from a weapn being accessed.
I have both for a vary wide array of firearms and have to say I prefer the CQC holster due to versatility and color using it on a black platform it is a better choice. Great Video also
nice comparison but the way people get negligent discharges with the serpa is that they arch their finger trying to get a faster draw and when you arch your finger it automatically slips into the trigger guard and the trigger might get pulled but then the people who do that are so embarrassed that they start blaming the holster or the gun.
Glad I found this. One of the best reviews of the Blackhawk CQC Serpa holster. Many reviews I looked for did not show it on the person and offering feedback on how it feels, etc. On the Sportster holster, you mentioned it's a slightly tighter fit. Did adjusting the screw in the front help it so that it is looser fit? I own the Blackhawk CQC Serpa, but not the Sportster. I have it for both Sig P226, and G19.
Excellent video. Very nicely done. I was going to ask about the vest, too, but someone beat me to it. So you had to buy an additional component to mount the CQC on the vest? Right now I'm using a crotch concealed holster which is OK, but i wanted to try out something like this. Let me ask ya - as you mention, there's a definite imprint when you're using this. What about a bad guy coming up from behind and grabbing it? Thanks again for the vid. Cheers.
Nice review and nice gun! I bought the sportser for a G19 but I didn't like the paddle attachment. I had problems with it digging into my side/hip. I bought the belt loop attachment and haven't had any problems with it digging in. The only thing I don't like about the belt loop is that it seems to move the pistol further away from your side causing it to stick out more. I'll have to put the paddle back on just to double check. Maybe its just because of the type of gun I use and the design. Did you notice anything like that? I've since purchased a level 3 due to my near entrance into law enforcement plus I think the Level 3's look awesome and the functionality is great. Hated the low ride belt attachment that comes with the L3 though, had to buy the high ride for that as well. I've been looking at the serpa system shoulder holster for another carry option. Don't like the thought of always having to move the holster itself back and forth from the shoulder to the belt loop though - for $35 might as well just buy a additional holster and not have to worry about it
I'm sorry that I will burst your bubble but the CQC is NOT made out of carbon fiber. it's the same polymer that is used on the sportster. the only difference between the two is additional colors and the belt loop. the cqc is available in black with a wannabe carbon fiber sticker. but that only makes it look fancy...
you can go get a drop leg rig if you want to wear your pistol on your leg while wearing your plate carrier. it will keep your mag pouches from getting in your way.
I noticed every-time you draw the weapon you are aiming at the kneecaps, is there a reason for that? Train so that when you draw you are on target, typically center mass.
well your a righty as I see u draw wit your right witch means you don't need the pouches over your holster considering u cant exactly grab it quickly or with out having to change position so belt or paddle can work fine
there are some definite differences between the 228 and the 229. I would probably say that the 228 has more in common with the 226 than the 229 does with either. Even so you're getting a phenomenal weapon.
Absolutely! The Sportster is still a great holster for airsoft or just going to the range to plink. The only reasons I would buy the CQC is if you plan to use it on duty, as a LEO, or on a military deployment.
+Tony Lankford The actual holster part can attach to various backing plates. Three of these are shown in the video. The belt loop one, the paddle one, and the MOLLE one. The MOLLE one hooks into the MOLLE straps on your vest and the holster part attaches to that.
CQC ( Close Quarters Combat) must mean something totally differently from Concealed Carry for a normal everyday CCP/CWP everyday citizen. Because this rig does not offer a good concealed carry option/system. I have one of these units, it's solid and reliable, but I don't see how it can be used as an every day "Concealed Carry" system. It does not fit that 'concealed carry' mode/mold. One would have to work with it a bit or a lot to fit their carry means and modes to make it work for them. I personally don't find the Serpa model a viable unit to use as an every day "concealed carry" option.
I know exactly what you mean, because here in my state we can't open carry in public, but we can on our property so I do while I'm doing yard work. It's comfortable with the paddle.
It is not mandatory for the public to be trained properly on firearms. 2nd I'm sure most of the civilian population carrying a firearm are not schooled in the use of deadly force, state (RSA). You pull the trigger on someone, good luck''

GFO270 i realized that after I left the comment. I left the comment thinking about that one serpa with the fake carbon fiber look. Besides that, i honesty thought the rest of the serpas were plain polymer
This shit is old.. they revamped.. the systems..That's not a sportster holster on the right..I have a sportster it has no release button and it comes with both mounting systems.. take this shit down or update it.
Finally!!!! Someone who actually puts the holstered weapon on and demonstrates how it fits and works!!! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS
This has to be one of the best reviews on youtube for this product.

Just bought mine yesterday gonna get ready for Jan 1st Open Carry here in Texas.
+danbowski40 Damn! I was hoping to warn you off it.
Nice man! I'm glad I could help! I hope you enjoy the holster as much as I have.

thanks for the review, i just purchased the sportster for my 229
Hands down best review Ever. You Rock
Excellent review. Everything I wanted to know before purchasing - well done.
Great video. Was wondering why there is two holsters from Blackhawk and you hit it right on the nose for me. Thanks.
Very helpful. Sold I'm getting two for my sig p229 & p320. Their not expensive either. Been wondering about them for a while. Like the locking mechanism. Don't see how there could be a misfire but, anything's possible when it has to do with guns.
If you loosen the Philips head screw just below the trigger guard on the sportsman holster it will drop in like the cqc ( 1/4 turn should be enough).
Great video. I have the CQC for my Glock 30 and have no complaints.
you can loosen the screw just below the release button to get an easier holster in.
the accidental discharges came from hitting the release button to hard when drawing and having you finger slip into the trigger. Of course these typically happen during stressful situations. Another issue is having a little rock enter the release button and jamming it and locking the firearm in there.
good review and clear the distinction of the two similar models. Thanks!
Excellent choice! He will not be disappointed! Happy Father's Day!
Thanks!! Bought my dad the CQC based on your review!
Looking forward to it. I have a line on a used P228 that is basically the same I think, just older model.

+Ron Schaffner Thank you sir!
Yep Sig 229! I'm hoping to do a review on it during Christmas break.
Been using one for my Beretta 92F. Excellent holster. Nice review. Going to look into similar set up as yours. Beretta is just too big.
nice comparison but the way people get negligent discharges with the serpa is that they arch their finger trying to get a faster draw and when you arch your finger it automatically slips into the trigger guard and the trigger might get pulled but then the people who do that are so embarrassed that they start blaming the holster or the gun.
You just need to adjust the retention screw, for snugness for CQC and Sportster models.
Great review sir. Thank you for your time, made my choice easier to purchase this for my glock.
Just wanted to know, Did you ever go into the military?? You did a good video. You spoke clearly and right to the point about the product
***** I am currently in that National Guard.
What's your MOS?
Glad I found this. One of the best reviews of the Blackhawk CQC Serpa holster. good vid. thanks for posting. good to know the diff between the sportster and cqc. Ill be going with the cqc.
Great review bro! Im going with the cqc for my ruger sr9c.

Smoother is a word man lol no auto correct or spell check showing up on my phone. Nice video
For some pistols you don't have the option of the CQC or Sportster. So in some cases you have to buy the more expensive one.
you can go get a drop leg rig if you want to wear your pistol on your leg while wearing your plate carrier. it will keep your mag pouches from getting in your way.

there are some definite differences between the 228 and the 229. I would probably say that the 228 has more in common with the 226 than the 229 does with either. Even so you're getting a phenomenal weapon.
Thank you for a great review and comparison.
These holsters are like half price on Amazon. Still trying to figure out why they are so much cheaper on Amazon compared to blackhawks own site
Good vid, very cool gear, where did you get the vest ? Thanx .
It's a Condor MOPC, I got it from lapolicegear.com
I think I'm going to get one of these.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! I'll have to check that out!
Good review, I appreciate it.
I don't see there's any carbon fiber on this holster.
Are these holsters compatible with replica airsoft/bb guns
+Jaren Peterman I believe they are. I do not airsoft myself, but I think that they airsofters have used these holsters for their games.
+GFO270 Most likely for licensed products. I.E., if it actually says "glock" or "Colt 1911" or wtv on it. If it's just a look alike it may or may not.
ATP fits GLOCK Blackhawk hoslters I know for sure.
I'm looking for one for airsoft. Would the Sportster be sufficient for that?
Absolutely! The Sportster is still a great holster for airsoft or just going to the range to plink. The only reasons I would buy the CQC is if you plan to use it on duty, as a LEO, or on a military deployment.
GFO270
Thank you! Saved me some money there!
GFO270 Took it out to a game recently. The holster worked flawlessly! Thanks for the insight!
***** I'm glad you're happy with your purchase and that I was able to help out!
Excellent choice!
Did you purchase your Blackhawk from Walmart for $19.95? Your description sounds like the one they carry.
Is that a belt designed for holsters?
Will this fit to combat belt?
so how is the holster mounted to the chest on the vest?
+Tony Lankford The actual holster part can attach to various backing plates. Three of these are shown in the video. The belt loop one, the paddle one, and the MOLLE one. The MOLLE one hooks into the MOLLE straps on your vest and the holster part attaches to that.
nice review Sir
Not bad for a NG soldier, now the price is ?????
Great video!!
Most smootherest
Good vid thanks .
How do you attach it to your plate carrier?
me neither but i just explained how all the negligent discharges happen when you combine stupid people with the serpa
What kind of vest is that?
Thanks man.

Newt Dewrock It's best used in those states that have open carry. My cousin uses one of these almost exclusively while doing repo work.
I know exactly what you mean, because here in my state we can't open carry in public, but we can on our property so I do while I'm doing yard work. It's comfortable with the paddle.
Thank you!
what's the adapter called for the plate carrier.anyone?
Are you in the military?
Don't muzzle me man haha. Good video.
It's a Condor MOPC.
What model Sig is that?
Jesus christ man i thoght you had 2 ar mag pouches 3 wide 2 deep
Nevermind, as I suspected P229

THANKS SERPAMAN! OOOPS INTELLIGENT ONLY, I FORGOT.
Nice review, but seeing someone blatantly disregard the three cardinal rules of gun safety really worries me. Doesn't mean you don't know gear, but you should know this first:
1) Always treat every gun like it's loaded
- you did practice draws, cleared your sig, and released the hammer while pointing your gun to the inside of your house, not to mention your AR
2) Never put your finger inside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot
- I counted at least 3 times
3) Never point a gun at something you are not willing to destroy (even if it's not loaded - see rule #1)
- You may not have broken this directly since you were pointing at the camera, but you did also point your guns at a wall with possible unknown human targets behind them

Are you saying only LE should carry guns ?
Kid stop pretending, I invite you to join the military. For good.
Will Bello too late, already been in 6 years and am currently deployed.
@@GFO270Already 6 years? Wow! Whereabouts? Come on! talk to me kid. How old are you? You look in a very good shape ! Haha Haha.....
No blackhawk serpa is made of carbon fiber
CLplusP what makes you say that? Almost every website I've seen advertises this holster as carbon fiber?
GFO270 i realized that after I left the comment. I left the comment thinking about that one serpa with the fake carbon fiber look. Besides that, i honesty thought the rest of the serpas were plain polymer
Intelligent comments only please :)
Conceals nicely if you don't have a fucking Sig.
Preston Bhatti or a glock 23 like i have
This shit is old.. they revamped.. the systems..That's not a sportster holster on the right..I have a sportster it has no release button and it comes with both mounting systems.. take this shit down or update it.
