Most people with common sense understand that the message behind a band’s music varies. Some bands have different lyrical content, themes, and beliefs, and while certain bands lean more toward satanic imagery, it doesn’t mean the entire genre is satanic. It really depends on the individual band. Unfortunately, bands often get lumped together, especially if they’ve played shows together, even though their lyrics and messages might be completely different. A lot of people associate death metal-and other heavy metal genres-with negativity, labeling it as “satanic” or “evil” just because of the screaming, growling, and intense sound. But it's no different from a horror movie-it’s a performance, meant to create a mood or an effect. Most of it’s just theatrical, not meant to be taken literally. It’s all part of the entertainment.

They’re using it to shock people who do believe in that stuff. Plus it fits the dark theme and imagery they’re trying to convey, it’s become a visual and sonic aesthetic at this point. Not really hard to understand
well to be fair it looks cool
I don't think so for the most part. I also, I think people have become desensitized to a lot these days that Death Metal imagery and lyrics is not the worst thing they've seen or heard.
Deathmetal guys are so friggin chill and laidback, and that iPhone joke got me laughing hard 😂 ..
Shoutout to Undeath for killin’ it. Anyone who hasn’t heard their live album on Spotify should go put that on straight away.. both funny and brutal at the same time .. 🤘🏻🔥
For the most part, death metal is just a theme like a horror movie.
@TheRichie213 I've always said that Death metal is just the musical version of horror movies
I think so too
Man, when I was in the 6th grade ('96) and kids found out I listened to Metallica and Sepultura they said I worshiped Satan, sacrificed goats and drank blood. These were kids I had been GOOD friends with since Kindergarten. Then I show up wearing a Metallica shirt and suddenly I'm public enemy number one. Learned at a young age how quickly "friends" can turn on you for being yourself. A couple years later I didn't let them down: I started showing up wearing Gorgoroth and Mayhem t's,
Im not a religious or superstitious person but I do almost always stay away from metal bands that fly pentagrams, have overly grotesque art, have devil shit everywhere, use edgy costumes etc.
I dont see why anyone would want to align themselves with dark/negative energy like that and its just a horrible first impression for me. You have essentially committed yourself to pushing negative/grotesque energy forward.
This is why I really like death metal bands like Entheos. They're heavy as all get out and insane musicians but most of the songs are about introspection, spirituality etc not B tier horror movie shit or forced satanist nonsense lmao.
Boring
@@memcore1312 I feel the same way about trying to appear edgy or negative solely for the sake of doing so.
Spoken words have power and energy as we were created in the likeness of God. Even if you don’t believe in a higher or supreme power, there is a water & word labeling experiment done by a Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto. Water molecules are affected by positive or negative affirmation labels on jars. And our bodies are comprised of approx. 70 percent water, so imagine what that does. You can search for it here.
Very cool to hear them talk about Teitanblood, one of the most evil and brutal bands to exist imo.
Their music is unlistenable.Chaos.
I heard Brujeria is another band of that sort.
@@Babaji77777 yea that's what it sounds like to someone who's ears are not adjusted to that style of black/death. I used to be that way until it finally clicked and now it's great being able to understand it.
Satan's actually more into Barry Manilow and Michael Bolton's Everybody's Crazy album. Oh wait till everything comes out about Jay -Z and Beyonce ;)
💯💯
There were protests when deicide played in Minneapolis back then.
You gotta get Xibalba on an episode one day
Talking about Scott Burns I just seen him at my local Winn Dixie.. wanted to walk up and say something but dude was grocery shopping and probably didn’t want to be bothered.
To be honest, nowadays most death metal bands just sing about horror themes, alien apocalypses and fantasy themes. I really can't think of any satanic death metal band other than Deicide.
I don't really believe in the church, or organized religion, but I do think there's ''something'' im a bit of an agnostic. I do think theres a ''god'' of sorts I just have no clue what it is or how it works. That being said, I absolutely fucking love the theme of satanism in art. I don't know why. I love it. I feel like its man exorcising the bad parts of man, for artistic and culturar or even therapeutic purposes. Its like that quote about man making a beast out himself because it gets rid of the pain of being man.
Bro bring Stabbing to the podcast!!!
I would love to see Chris Barnes on this Podcast dude. I would love to hear him talk about things that I really wanna hear. Like his "Interesting" to put it lightly, Vocals on his Nightmares of the Decomposed album. Also how he deals with the clowning he gets on the daily about his Vocals and song writing. It would be an awesome episode, hoping he doesn't get pissed off at simple Questioning.
Possessed was like the first death metal band with satanic theme
Anybody know the name of Scott Burns' book?
Even with all the f’ed up stuff I’ve seen online throughout the years, eternal damnation still scares me the most. I’m not willing to gamble with that only to behave like an edgelord here on Earth.
Have fun boys.
I think the Norwegian black metal scene probably has more of a satanic influence as apposed to the death metal scene
These Metal Babies weren’t even alive in the 80’s during the Satanic Panic.
Can't stand these modern day pseudo death metal bands.
To a majority, it’s a gimmick. However there’s a select very few that are actually about “it”
6:18 also Bob Dylan. So that's proof it worked because that guy always sucked, yet somehow he's so popular.
I think some bands can be. I think it exists in the cookie cutter pop world as well. It's there in the imagery and lyrics. It's just way more subtle.
Chris Barnes is not a satanist, give me a break. If you want to talk about bands that kind of cross the lines, maybe Behemoth and Belphegor
Most Death Metal is actually just lyrics that challenge traditional religion. Questioning god is not Satanic and if you question beliefs in God then by virtue of that, you are also questioning the existence of Satan in the first place.
i mean, Kataklysm is catholic they’re new album is Half based off of the story of goliath
for real?
Not really, but black metal is. Watain comes to mind. And i love them
Hail Thyself
Lol Robert Johnson did not sell his soul to the devil. Robert was a horrible player and all the other blues players in the area made fun of him. So Robert moved away and went to live with a guitar teacher named Ike Zimmerman for a few years and whatever Ike taught him stuck and Robert came back home and blew people away. And people around the area thought he souled his soul to the devil cause there is no way that he could have learned what he did in that short amount of time but he did and Ike got him to where he needed to be.
Yes
The end of this video hes talking about Robert Johnson selling his soul to play guitar better and literally invent rock n roll. Enter the modern music industry
Johnson 6:66
For Satan so hated the heavens that he bought the souls of many men to curse their holy ways and spare them from the skies, and whomsoever denieth in God shall flourish and rot in eternal death. Daemon
Why no Doom
Is death metal satanic? Not necessarily. But the best stuff is.😉
@@13JDOG666 Yup! Like Deicide and Vital Remains FTW🔥😈🤘!
@@13JDOG666 🖤
I am an atheist and I listen to death metal I have been listening to it since the age of 4 years old I am 35 years old so 31 years old into death metal and black metal I love deicide immolation incantation astyanax devourment apoleia deimhal so lyrics about religions are funny that’s all.
3:36 Garza, might not be a bad idea to lookup some TH-cam videos of public interactions with Tray before reaching out. HE IS A LOT. Unfortunately, there seems some serious substance issues along with some psychological struggles.
Choosing Death is my fav bathroom reader lol
Watain anybody? Those dudes are bout it bout it.
Wow hot take
Nope, that would be black metal
A lot of death metal bands have satanic lyrics to like Thy art is murder, Deicide, Vital remains, and Aeon
@@Superlordx I mean, yes, there are always outliers, but as a genre? Death metal isn’t inherently satanic. Black metal is literally all about Satan and satanic themes
@@Superlordx Pales in comparison to Watain, Dissection, Gorgoroth etc
@@holyshiet787 In what sense? lyrically its the same.

Deicide: F* Jesus and God
Watain: Anticosmic Satanic alchemy and whatnot
Fellas fellas, ugh...
There are 400+ religions in the world and they all just kinda are just nonsense to me. Satanism included. I'm just here for the riffs and brutality.
King Diamond is the only actual Satanist in metal
Not really. He doesn't worship the devil and he isn't religious.
@@JC-lu4se I never said he did or that he was? I know exactly what he believes in and practices as I have spoken to the man many times about it in great details
I always thought Death Metal was Buddhist!?🤘😂🤘😇🤘😈🤘😎🤘
It’s easy to write about just like metalcore sings about how hard their day was.
Trey seems like a bit of a wastoid these days. I doubt you'd get much sense out of him.
No but some of it is.
Nah
Duh
If it grooves it grooves but I'm about sick of seeing bands repeat the same satanic gimmick. I get it if thats just the sound you're going for, whatever. But you got that shit in pop music now. Its lame dude...
this podcast proves suicide suicide silence isnt metal
@@hashfire7434 it never was. Deathcore blows
