  • Every hunter can be successful if they focus on 3 things.
    -Learning the animal
    -Learning the are
    -Being consistent
Bear hunting is great when you are at the right place at the right time. It can take days or weeks to yourself in that place tho.

Bravo way to go! Congratulations on an awesome Black Bear harvest. Looks like a young bear that will offer good nutritious meals, some wonderful useful Fat and fur as well.

Nice bear man! I’m a recent transplant to NW Oregon, looking to go hunting this fall for deer, elk, and bear.

I admire your courage to go after a bear. I read some scary bear attack stories recently, including some incidents happened to hunters. Hope you enjoy the hunting. However, I guess hunting with friends, no less than three people, is a safer choice in bear country.

You should have brought a large bucket of apples and pears along with a two litre bottle of orange juice to befriend the bear. 🤔

Not familiar with bear hunting. Do you field dress it and pack out choice parts, or do you take the whole thing in several trips? How "gamey" is the taste? Congrats!

This bear was right at 225 lbs, it took me 3 trips to pack it out. I took everything, fur, head, bones, all meat. The only thing that was left were the guts.
All the meat will be eaten by our family and friends.
Soft meat will be roasted, and cooked.
Meat from legs will go into sausage and patties.
All the bones will be cooked for bone broth,
The fur was donated to Native American named White Eagle, he will make drums from the skin and jewelry from claws.
The skull will be whitened and will stay as my trophy.
I have eaten deer and elk, they have a more gamey meat, and smell more like animals.
The bears fur did smell like a dog, but the meat is soft and has absolutely no smell to it.

@@InsidePNW Very cool! Love how you will utilize the whole animal between yourself, family and friends - most respectful of the kill. Now, bear meat is for sure on my bucket list. Thanks a lot for the lowdown and congratulations again!
