I grew up wrestling in Missouri and went to University of Iowa camps during the summer. Dan gable was the coach when I was there. He inspired in his wrestlers that hard work, sacrifice, and dedication will beat talent every time. After high school I joined the Marine Corps and the physical training there literally felt like a walk in the park after enduring a lifetime of training and conditioning the way that Dan Gable said to do it.
not even special operations military fitness stuff came close to scaring me as much as wrestling why they ever let these legendary lunatics be in charge of teenagers is crazy

Lol, i met this guy at a state meet for my highschool in 2019 and i could not stop talking to him. I almost missed my matches each time because he was so fun to talk to.
I am very happy I was involved in wrestling from a young child to a adult, it’s a great sport that teaches you to value yourself, your health and sacrifice and also respects others for their hard work. A sport that teaches you lessons of life.
Life is NOT complicated. You set a goal and you work toward it and you don't give up. This man is MAKING SURE these young wrestlers reach thise goals so they know that it works. Most important thing you can do as a leader.
Of course he has earned this as a coach, BUT what a blessing. To be surrounded by like-minded athletes. Young men who are willing to work HARD and GRIND. An amazing environment for a young man with dreams!
My coach told me, "one you've wrestled, everything else in life will be easy." He was correct. Muay Thai has the same mentality. Shit like somebody getting a tooth knocked out and a coach kicking it off to the side and saying, "keep training". I dislocated my toes during a shark tank. Kept going, won the rest of my rounds, finished, and then drive myself to the ER after. Now I got half a foot that don't work from permanent ligament and tendon damage and almost lost my job from being out so long, but I know what I'm capable of and that's all that matters.
This is the most accurate wrestling coach’s response to an interview like that. I can’t say I miss the 5+ hour practices and running on the treadmill in our school’s boiler room before and after practice to make weight.
This is the “DEXTER MORGAN” of wrestling, olympic champ, and legendary coach. He said this with his mind knowing his opponents (other college coaches) will see their interviews, he’s always playing a mental game😂😂
Greatest sport that will break a Primadonna. Some football players cross over, but receivers and DB’s can not handle getting their egos crushed. Tough sport for tough athletes.
Wrestling was somthing I honestly didn’t enjoy, I wasn’t there for the meets, I was honestly overweight and tired of being as chubby as I was so I joined with my buddy who had been doing it since tot, I then played the rest of highschool because I loved the way it hardened me mentally, all wrestling coaches are tough but we had a lumberjack ass dude that was just a monster an probably the most intimidating person I’ve met to this day. He got in your face, got in your head, made us do partner carry’s around the mat for so long and had most of us in tears by then end of so practice. Literal hell but somehow when it was over you got what some might call a runners high and you just feel so accomplished and like you can overcome anything. I recommend anyone to do it for at least 1 full year. Out of any sports I tried out wrestling taught me more then the rest combined and it’s not even close
It’s IOWA, I’m not surprised! 😂 I grew up in the inner city of NJ and wrestling wasn’t even on the minds of us kids, just boxing or Karate. When I moved to Iowa as an adult, is when I became aware of the popularity and seriousness or wrestling. Mad respect to those athletes. If I could do it over, I’d definitely start out with wrestling.
That guy is the most wrestler looking person I’ve ever seen.
I thought the same shit 😂
Low centre of gravity , wild look in the eyes.
This man just *looks* strong, not bench press strong but wrestling a grizzly bear kind of strong
Same thought lol.
That's the first thing I thought when I saw him too.
