Always can't figure out why players who have long careers are considered underachieving. As a basketball player, if you can play 9 pro seasons and play multiple contracts in the NBA you succeed
In that same era of post up centers getting phased out, point guards who can't shoot or self create on a high level were also getting phased out.I call point guards like this eric snows meaning they were good defenders and could run a offense but they couldn't shoot to save their life.
I always compare him to Rondo if he had been put in a winning team position I think he’d be better than we thought he would’ve been. The Magic were in a never ending rebuild so I don’t think it’s his fault, I believe franchises didn’t have enough faith in him
And Rondo was never a shooter but what he did have was a floater game and was an efficient finisher at the cup for a good number of years in his prime. Payton wasn't even efficient enough in the paint.
He from New Orleans, started around the corner from my best friend. We use to always hoop by his crib, had no idea he would make it to the NBA he was kinda trash young, but so happy ands glad to see he has a great career
@aaronconners5570, If Payton was trash when he was young, and still made it to the NBA..you must have been 🐕 poop at the same age..you never made it to the NBA.
Even at my level I will spend hours working on my weaknesses. Realistically I'll never be in the league. But I don't understand the mentality of the sport not being your lifestyle, love, and not just a paycheck
That Payton and Oladipo duo was supposed to be that backcourt of the future for Orlando. Or it seemed like that was the expectation at the time, considering both were lotto picks in back2back drafts. One of the biggest what ifs from that decade to me is; What becomes of the magic if Payton develops a J and Victor sticks around longer and stays healthy?
At this point it’s safe to say unless you can shoot or be a reasonable shooting threat it’s pretty much over for you starting in the nba yet alone staying on a roster. When I think of starting point guards who are good at what he does they all either learned how to shoot or got left out of the league. The only exception so far is if you are a big playmaker like Simmons, but even then he might get pushed out himself. 😅
Yeah, pretty much today if you want to be an NBA starter and get paid, you have to shoot 35% or better from three, no matter size or position you are. Teams cannot afford to have a guy defenders can sag off on the floor for most the game.
If you cannot shoot, struggle shooting from the free throw line and struggle with turnovers, it’s a miracle he got 9 years in the NBA, which is still a very long career!!
Reminds me of Greedy Daniels. Unrelated, but I watched a scrimmage where he went against DSJ and the skill level was miles apart. That’s when I gave up on DSJ.
Jimmer Fredette had a breakout game on a bad team in 2014 and still got waived. It's a combination of bad teams not having an identity and the doubt about okay players possibly putting up empty stats.
can you do a video on mj rice, he was a 5 star mcdonalds all American who played at Kansas and transferred to N.C. state, and then he left the program and school and hasn’t been back in D1 hoops since
I always felt like in Orlando the front office screwed him and Victor oladipo because they didn't know which one they wanted to be the guy and they didn't know how they wanted to use Aaron Gordon. All of em ended up on other teams anyway and with success.
I think he could've kept his spot in the nba if he was willing to attempt more jumpshots and 3's, and while he is a bad shooter the difference between him and rondo is that rondo always kept his confidence which made him a threat to score from everywhere.
It seems that instead of teams wanting their point guards to do more than facilitate, the teams totally ignore the facilitating aspect and just focus on scoring.
Lakers could sure use a second guy who plays perimeter defense, and since their offense is “give the ball to LeBron or AD and get out of the way,” he would be a perfect fit.
Shooting is much harder for dyslexia or ADHD. Not saying that's his issue. But mostly likely it is. Every day is a new day shooting for them. To be consistent you have to be mentally sound and attentive
I liked him, thought he could have been a Rondo type PG. Probably needed to play under a Chris Paul type PG for a year or two before being given the reins of a team.
This is crayz the pelitcans shouldve kept him he was pass 1st piont guard like what is the league coming 2 like god dam yes i understand u need a realiable jumper but dammmit El Payton was a general on the floor.
Was waiting for this
9 seasons in the league is a +
Right he lasted a whole decade and longer then the average NBA career span......
Always can't figure out why players who have long careers are considered underachieving.
As a basketball player, if you can play 9 pro seasons and play multiple contracts in the NBA you succeed
It’s not over for him. I haven’t seen anything that makes me say he’s not an NBA player.
Bro had the craziest hairstyle at one time in the NBA
Yea 😂😂😂
Thats crazy thts all he known for frfr😢
@@Luhbastrdits really not unless youre a casual.
It even blocke his own shot lol, dude's the black Josuke lol.

Good comparison
@@KesiaR666hell naw Payton better than snow on the offensive end💯😭
@@Dipset415not really
Spot on comparison.
Eric snow was better than Payton dude .

You disrespecting rondo
Rondo was clutch, he was not giving you much offense in November, but get into the playoffs and he could become a two way dominant stud when needed.
His basketball IQ isn’t a tenth of what Rondo’s is.
Back with another 1 awwwww yeahhhhh keep the great work bro 💯

@ huge facts and making it out New Orleans
@aaronconners5570, If Payton was trash when he was young, and still made it to the NBA..you must have been 🐕 poop at the same age..you never made it to the NBA.
He look like he was trash as a kid
I truly believe a lack of a 3-point shot hurt Payton too.
Even at my level I will spend hours working on my weaknesses. Realistically I'll never be in the league. But I don't understand the mentality of the sport not being your lifestyle, love, and not just a paycheck
They make to much money to care

honestly its only cause he cant shoot... he did just about everything else at a high level.
He not done. His nba isn't over.

Dude looked like the second coming of Jason Kidd.
I thought Orlando was set with Elfrid and Aaron Gordon.
They had oladipo too. Too bad they never clicked
@ crazy they let Oladipo go for virtually nothing.
Can you do a vid on Rashad Vaughn, Justin Patton and Georgios Papagiannis
All were lottery or near lottery picks that didn’t pan out
Huge draft busts. Patton in not as bad because of injuries
@@lukesmith9692 they were all bad draft busts. There’s no vids on them on TH-cam yet, they’d be good videos I bet.

How to tj McConnell in the league despite being smaller and also can’t shoot? What’d u think?
He was definitely solid true point guard
He always ended up being a monster in 2k for me
I always felt like in Orlando the front office screwed him and Victor oladipo because they didn't know which one they wanted to be the guy and they didn't know how they wanted to use Aaron Gordon. All of em ended up on other teams anyway and with success.
Oladipo was that guy, and Orlando gave him away 😢
Elfrid was never good enough to be a starter but too good to be a backup
This don’t make sense , because pat Beverly, Marcus smart , Alvarado and a couple other not well shooters are still on rosters
He can't shoot as a guard. You have to be lights out defensively or be a hell of a PG like a young Jason Kidd.
he was as good as a guard can be on defense... it doesn't matter anymore... if you cant shoot you're cooked
@@TheSkyrimps3but the 40 year old 🗑️son is in the nba

U said he was 6’4 in the beginning then 6’3 after
Elfrid had potential great passer and vision
Do alando Tucker
i live in orlando he had orlando jumping
Hopefully, Orlando would catch a break with their lottery picks. Been rooting for Banchero for a while now.
There’s too many bums in the league rn and Payton can’t even earn a roster spot? Please 🙄
Lakers could sure use a second guy who plays perimeter defense, and since their offense is “give the ball to LeBron or AD and get out of the way,” he would be a perfect fit.
Alex Poythress from Kentucky should be next on the show

The worst player in 2k history. Forgot what 2k it was. Went to the magic. He literally did nothing. Bum!
Jerome Dyson from UConn
He’s a good backup pg. he’ll get another job. But teams could just take a younger pg and try to develop them. He had fair\good career.
Payton would have been good in the 90s
He would’ve been great in the 90’s early 2000’s
Cory Fisher from Villanova
He was the closest player to me that played like rajon rondo.

bro game doesn’t fit todays nba . that simple
Struggled as a scorer. His intangibles kept him in the league.
Air Basquiat 🏀
Too many politics in sports
The nastiest head of hair in the league lol
Sad, where are fans now, crying when players wants to move on. nba s business they dont care about those players.
No swag tall no handle run fast strong
the biggest mistake he did is spending more time on his annoying hair than developing his outside shot.
That ad that comes on before , this video .The guy is smaking eating expensive ,i hate this dumb depiction of the less fortunate.
30 is old
He wasn't utilized right no matter where he went to me
How is a PG that cant shoot is supposed to be utilized?
@jj47k. after his career high comeback the NBA is full of sht anyways
His hairstyle ruined his shot
Let me guess, he cant shoot. Lol
To little to late
40 year old got his 🗑️son playing in the nba
We need em on the lakers D lo is trash
His only problem was his weak axx hair style
Was a Poor mans rondo. He’s out the league because he cant shoot
