Wow that is a stunning project Tomasz I absolutely love this. I have the off cut of a worktop ready in my workshop. Just a wee question what distance did you put the holes for moving the guide board for the router?
Found this from a mention in the Workshop Banter podcast. What an amazing thing, I'm off to my workshop to have a go right now - well, after I've subscribed 👍
Hi Tomasz Great project ! Question for you. I see that you're using the KATSU Router ! Whilst this project called for quite a bit of hardcore routing what would be your opinion of the Router as it's a knockoff of the MAKITA RTO700CX3J at a fraction of the price ? TIA
Coincidently I have got a 600 x 600 mm beech glue up cut off from the time i was making my workbench, its 4cm thick tho, so I guess the Chinese cheap bits will be tested and hopefully I will have an excuse to get me some proper CMT router bits. So CMT edge router + chinese bits = win? :)
A question & a comment. Question did you use some sort of stop at the end of each slot or just “eye ball it”. ? Comment even a cheap router bit will last longer if you clean them more often . Resin or pitch build up caused the bit to retain heat , heat kill bits . Nice project!
Due to lack of time over the last two months I'm now going through your older videos. You made a beautiful trivet. Thanks for showing how you did it. On forehand, before seeing the piece of wood you made it from, I expected a totally different way of making it. (something like a wooden frame with putting bended thin strips of wood in it). But I guess your way gives a far more durable end result. When you started routing (with the first bit) I had the idea that your router (or router bit) was struggling with the wood. But the end result is fantastic.
Thank you. Yes the bit was struggling and I killed it in result. However the second bit was far better fitted for this project and made it work a lot better
Great Project to make and it looks Fantastic if you do the same again, i would soak it in a bath with cutting board oil and that way it will get in all those hard to reach places. Take Care and Stay Safe 😷 Barry (ENG)
Forgot it was Friday until you posted your weekly video, looks great, not showing the wife otherwise I’ll spend Xmas locked in the shop doing one for her 😂
You certainly put that little katsu to the test! But the end result is stunning. I wondering where else this effect would work well. Perhaps side panels on furniture.
@@CasualDIY Oh, okay...thanks for explaing, but we have granite counter tops so hot pots and pans can be placed right on the counter. Won't hot pots and pans burn the wood?
@@Zamboni-0805 it's for everyone else that doesn't have granite tops then 🤣 If you put scorching hot pot on it it may, but it's better to leave marks on the Trivet rather then on your kitchen top isn't it?

Thanks 👍
Inspired me to make a similar design with a twist
And that's why I make my videos, to inspire people to make something. Super happy, you made my day, thank you😀👍
brilliant
thank you
Justifiably proud face at the end, amazing job and great idea!
Hehe thank you very much 👍😁
you have done a great job and given me some ideas for late xmas prezzies. Coasters, place mats and of course trivets for table and kitchen.
hehe thank you I can see there will be some happy people this Christmas in your area 👍😀
Nice work! That dust port on that router worked great! You don’t see that working often on palm routers
Thank you, yes I have to say I was surprised how well it works. Got something similar for my Bosch plunge router and it does almost nothing.
It is super cool , that's funny just bought a very similar router from Aldi , I feel your watching me 👀 only joking 😎
Hehe thanks, you never know who is watching 🤔👍😂
Gorgeous piece, certainly gives me a few ideas - although I might be doing it on the CNC.
I wish I had a CNC, this took ages with a handheld router 😂
Wow that is a stunning project Tomasz I absolutely love this. I have the off cut of a worktop ready in my workshop. Just a wee question what distance did you put the holes for moving the guide board for the router?
Thanks. They were 3cm apart 👍
@@CasualDIY Thanks Tomasz. How deep did you set the router depth?
@@markedie3348 my board was about 4cm thick so the bit was at 2cm
To prevent tear out at the end 0f the board I simply round over the edge with my palm router

Hehe thank you kindly, welcome aboard 👍
Higher quality bits make a world of difference, also a more powerful plunge router! But using what you have still made a beautiful piece!
That's true 👍

The Katsu router in my opinion is FANTASTIC 👍
At the price it's available at I Honestly think it's a good buy !
Amazing result. Your patience was rewarded.

Hehe mine was about 3.8cm thick. And all the bits were super cheap ones. One died on this adventure but the second one managed to finish the job 😂👍

Just eye ball it. Yes that true and its time for me to do a major clean up of my router bits and saw blades
Nice work. Did you set the depth of cut to exactly half the thickness of the board, or vary the depths each side?
Thanks, yes I was aiming to meet in the middle of the board👍

That result is awesome Tomasz! ...well worth the effort!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you, yes I think so as well. It does look awesome in our kitchen😀👍
Someone buy this man a new router bit.
🤣 got one now thanks 👍😄
Excellent work. Wondering how you worked out the nail spacing for moving the jig
The bit is 19mm and I wanted about 1.5cm space between so I have set up the spacing to 3cm on the jig
@@CasualDIY thanks so much. I'm going to have a go myself
What was the spacing from the edges?
what finish did you use for this
Hard wearing Osmo oil
Scream Katsu, scream!
hehe it did really well, I'm so proud of my little Katsu 👍😀

Thank you, and that's actually a good tip as it took me about 30 minutes to do one coat.
Great result Tomasz from the worktop off cut, the finished design looks really effective. Enjoyed watching your machine work. Tony
Thank you kindly mate
Wow, if that's the trivet, how big is the pot!!! 😂
Well done, that's excellent. Am going to build one myself!
Hehe I hope to fit at least three pots on it, ready for Christmas dinner😁👍
Great little project and I especially enjoyed seeing innovative and new: very good idea! 🙋🏻♀️Anna

Thank you kindly mate 👍😀
Great result. Well done. Surprised your little Katsu router coped. 👏
Thank you, yes it did a great job. It just proves you don't have to spend a fortune to get a decent tool👍
What is it used for or is it just an art piece?
You can put your warm pots and pans so they would not damage your kitchen top and give you space on the cooker.

That turned out really well, pat on the back for you 👍

Very nice. How many router bits did it take?
Just the two 😂👍
Great project Tomasz, workshop looks great too.
Thank you kindly, still a long way to go to get my workshop to the state I want
