It is so awesome to be able to see such a complete comparison of different brands without having to spend a fortune buying all of them! I’ve been working as a professional illustrator for more than 20 years now, so I pretty much know what I like and what I don’t in paints. Whenever I wish to add or replenish a specific color in my palette I can just watch your videos about that specific color to decide which brand will work better for me , that is really useful ^^. This series is being so helpful, thank you so much for your work 😊.
I finally found time to myself to watch the final episode! I loved this series and find it very helpful in showing the different characteristics of the various pigments. I really loved the grays from the Viridian mix with the Daniel Smith and M.Graham. The DS one is almost a mini landscape on your swatch. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in sharing your knowledge. Looking forward to the next season!
I love this red, I have the DS version and it takes salt beautifully (which I discovered from one of Oto's salt videos a few years ago, check it out if you like salt texture) and that swatch on your comparison sheet doesn't do it justice. You can get wonderful snowflake-like textures that work well on a holiday card--but I just brush off the salt so might make the difference. Sorry to see this series end, looking forward to the next one!
Thanks 😊 for sharing one of my absolute favorite colors! I have Winsor Red and a sample of Da Vinci Red... which is in my Blick's cart. Thanks for the link! I also bought supplies and gifts after linking to Amazon tonight! You're amazing! With love from a California Gramma ❤️
Thank you Oto. I love this series and always recommend you to anyone looking for info on how different brands behave. I have the M Graham pyrrol red . Again, thank you so much Oto.💜
Love your videos. They really help me to choose paint brands and colours. Would you be able to do a video comparing viridian and phthalo green (Daniel Smith) ? Xx
I have the Da Vinci and my tube looks and behaves much better than in your test. It's my favorite red, and it works great but now I'm doubting my own judgement. Although it could be the paper I'm using? 🤔
I love the Da Vinci Red, PR254... it's identical to my Winsor Red! I've heard from utube artists that colors appear their best on quality watercolor paper, and I'm not using cotton ... even swatching my new watercolor pencils on good paper makes a difference! Have a great day!
Hello Dr Oto. I love your channel. I watch your videos repeatedly. I love them for the content and for the energy and your voice. I’ve gone to sleep many times while having one of your playlists play. I got into watercolor about 2 years ago. Watched many TH-cam videos. I have definitely fallen into the trap of buying a paint based on name and ended up with something I didn’t want (DS carbizole violet red shade) I did NOT need another PV23. One of the colors I got early on was St. Petersburg chromium oxide green. It was a different kind of mistake… it’s the only PG17 I’ve ever seen in real life. I know it’s Lindsey the frugal crafters least liked color. I really like it in washes mixed with small amounts of pthalos and quins. My issue is the PG17’s I see on my screens look more yellow leaning. Not a lot. But enough. I know you don’t have a chromium oxide green episode on your channel. I think I remember hearing you made one for your patreons. I can’t afford to be a patron. So if you have made a PG17 episode I guess you can disregard this message. But if you haven’t, would you be willing? And if you’re willing, could you add a St. Petersburg spot. I’d love to see the differences between this opaque warm green. Thank you very much
I prefer much more the Pyrrol Red Light from Qor. Surly it is a completely different Red, but behaves “better” than the Pyrrol (medium) - (more shades etc.). Looking forward to the next week with Qor!
are you using the new or older version of Maimeriblu ? it used to be my favorite brand, but the tubes i've bought from their new version are not so good. I think they added honey to the mix. Also the newer tubes of M Graham seem to be less runny, maybe less honey ??

Loved these episodes! I so hope there will be another season!! This is one of my favourite series of all time!

Wow that reaction between the roman szmal one and viridian hue looks sooo goood!!
THANKyou so much
Thank you, I was recently wondering about mixing potential of PR254. This was quite helpful!
I have fallen in love with the Holbein! In my country it's the cheapest, and it is the brightest of the lot. Thank you for this wonderful video❤

what was that dark spot in the bottom half of the schmincke swatch?
i wish you would've swapped the quinn rose with a blue for this episode, oh well~
Daniel Smith is the one I have 😅 looks like I’ll keep using it! Thanks for all you do Oto your uploads are always incredibly helpful.
I got the Holbein in 5ml tube years ago. I think when I replace it soonish I’ll definitely be getting another brand. Fun and useful video thanks.
I just did a painting of a red apple with roman szmal red and added winsor and newton Pthalo green, no weird texture thing!!
