    HISTORY
The Tatton Arms was situated on Boat Lane, Northenden. This pub was built in 1873 by the Tatton family.
The Tatton Arms is a huge old pub on the banks of the River Mersey on Boat Lane at Northenden, but sadly it's been closed since 2007. It's in a sorry state having been vandalised - possibly by the same rough lot who frequented the pub towards the end - and left to rot by its irresponsible owners.
The Tatton Arms was originally known as the Boat House Inn, as shown in these two photos from 1898. The boat house that gave the inn its original name still stands today and was last known to be in good repair and in use by a local theatre company.
It is a well-photographed landmark in South Manchester, seen here in 1937, in 1967 from the other side of the River Mersey, and twice in 1971 with that looks like a Wilsons sign. The Tatton Arms later became a Chef & Brewer house. From some angles, like looking at the Northenden Wier, the Tatton Arms resembles a remote country pub.

Just saw this. I remember growing up as a kid my grandparents lived on Ringway Road. My dad worked at Ringway and was friends with Graham Black, his father Andy was the person who owned it back then in the 50’s and 60’s I believe. My dad used to take me there on weekends and we sat outside, it was a super place in its time. Shame it is what it is today. The whole area has changed so much, I was back there 2 years ago and saw what has happened to the old areas. Thanks for posting. I hope it can be restored but looks impossible.

Wrong place place mate, that pub is still going. It's on Ringway rd. My gran worked there when Andy Black had it. Andy Black was a footballer who played for City. This one is the Tatton Arms in Northenden and it's a crying shame. Used to go in there in the 80's.

Used to drink in here back in the 80s great place! its a shame the way it's just been left to rot away. I still pass it on a regular basis.

What a great video. I worked in this pub as a barman for a brief period in the mid 90s. The pub was in decline but it was plush and well-appointed and the regulars wouldn't stand for any nonsense from troublemakers. I never got a chance to explore the whole building - I very rarely went upstairs and when I did it was only to the office room - never the living quarters or the attic. I hope the building can be saved.

Thank you and that's cool you worked there and well glad I managed to film it for you so you can see what it was like up there too 😁👍

I went in for old times sake shortly before it closed down. Got talking to the bar lass as we were the only ones in there. She told me loads of stuff about the place as she was living in one of the upper rooms. She told me the cupola, the round room at the top used to be used for cock fighting once upon a time and there was evidence of it all over the walls, bloodstains shit and feathers. She also told me that workmen have fled the building and refused to go back because something had spooked them in there. One of the last landlords sons was stabbed near the church inn. She told me weird shit started happening after he died too. I remember a lad who used to work there in the early 80's telling us a few spooky tales. Said to be haunted by one of the Tattons who drowned in the Mersey after drinking in there.

I worked here for 6 years and my dad worked here before I was born. They used to use it for the stars that played at the golden garter In civic centre to stay overnight in the rooms in his day. The landlord lived upstairs when I worked there. All the back stairs were the offices. There have always been rumours that when originally built there was a cock fighting pit in the attic. I wasn't allowed up there but the benches reminded me of that. Shame it was a beautiful building.

That's cool and thanks for the information too :) and definitely wondered what was the purpose of the benches in the attic for sure seemed bit random lol 😆

@@RAZORTWISTEDEXPLORINGOFFICIAL Only noticed this ladies post after I'd posted elsewhere. Yep, my first thoughts when I saw the benches was the rumours of cock fighting. I was told it was in the cupola room upstairs, but thinking back, that could have been the room workmen fled from after being spooked by something.

It started attracting trouble at weekends, there used to be a cafe across the road and Race's scrapyard a bit further up,it's now old people's flats. Spent hours in Race's getting parts for my mk1 escort.
