Great little town. Been here all my life and love the country setting. I remember when you were very young and lived in a under ground house. just up the road from me. I remember when you used to in small motor racing. and seems like that was only a few years ago. You do a great job with all your videos. Take care and keep up the great work you do on here, cant wait to see you next video!!!!
I laughed when you talked about the lack of a track! I attended Georgetown and we didn’t have a track either. Our league meets were always held in Hillsboro. Great memories.
Good ole’ Brown County and Russellville, Ohio. John was one of the good guys i had the privilege of going to school with kindergarten through 12th grade. Technology has been great keeping up with those we grew up with.
It is really great to see your hometown.. Gives a more personal connection to a TH-cam Dude. 😊. I was raised in Bardstown, KY on a tobacco farm.. Thanks for sharing a part of your history. Enjoy being home.
I live nearby. I went to Ash Ridge elementary. Was in the last class to graduate 4th grade there. Went to 5th grade in the small building behind Russellville elementary, and half of 6th grade in the main building. By then they finished the new elementary on the outskirt of town. Then went 7th grade on at the new and old section of Eastern High School. I remember digging up fossils at the old pump house behind Ash Ridge at the back of the property then in the "dugout" of the baseball field at Russellville. Good times. Cool video!
Thank you so much for making this video- this brings back many memories of my youth! My grandmother lived on S. Columbus Street in the ‘70s to ‘80s, on the opposite side of the street from the dairy bar back then. I spent some Sundays at the Bethlehem Church of Christ not far away in Winchester. She’s buried in the Decatur Cemetery, and was married to a member of a family well known in this area at the time (he was my step-grandfather). You would likely know his family’s name.
I enjoyed your trip down memory lane. I grow up in Sardinia, graduated from Macon Eastern 1966. That area will always be home. You did a great job, keep up the good work. God bless.
Lived in Russellville and outside of Decatur back in the early 80’s for a little over 3 yrs. I think they built a new school next to the house we used to live in. I drove through there not too long ago to see the Carhart store was still in business. I remember going in there several times and the store would be packed full of clothing.
I enjoyed touring your hometown with you. I did a similar tour and videotaped my hometown of Rindge, New Hampshire in 2008. I even got to go in my old house when I was invited by the owners at that time. Went in my old church as well. I didn't get into my old school but I was able to look in the windows. I went back in 2018 and a lot had changed. After a Walmart went in the little town was never the same.
Hey, Thanks for sharing this! I live in Cincinnati Ohio and grew up in Lower Delhi close to Saylor Park Population 320, So I can relate to those memories of being in a small town as a kid.
Thank you so much for doing this video of Russellville. My father's side of the family had a farm there. My dad and his brothers grew up in Russellville.
Loved the video.. im from georgetown but live in okc oklahoma and home town history amazes me. Thanku..i miss u john.. i watched those track tapes if u and nathan over and over.
Northern Brew County here.I'm located between Fayetteville and Blanchester. Been to Brenda's and the Wayside Inn several times. I like to ride motorcycles up and down rt.763 between Decatur and Aberdeen.
We watch your channel regularly and live north of Tulsa, but my family is from Georgetown, Ripley, and Russellville. Been in that area since the mid 1800's...
Very cool, I too grew up in a farm town, some bigger than yours. Through family stories and a love of history much is known about my home town, except how it got its name LOL That question starts arguments
This was so awesome! I needed sunglasses for the gas station. I’m going to try and make it out to Highland County this year. Looking forward to future videos about Brown County!
This was a cool video of your hometown. There is a lot of American history there, which would be interesting to hear about. I bet you enjoyed a bit of nostalgia while telling your story. You should be proud of all your athletic accomplishments. Look forward to when you can visit again. Thanks for sharing a bit of your life.
Thanks for doing Russellville. I've enjoyed all your travel videos and it was fun to see how you presented Russellville. My Dad's family came from there and I returned many years later. I learned a lot about the town and area. Your turn to teach me. Thanks.
Very cool, I am from the Midwest too, and I think that Ohio is an interesting state I'm from Illinois and I have spent a lot of time in Ohio over the years Even though the Southwest is home to me now, I never will forget the Midwest
The terrain around your hometown looks lovely in those drone shots - I bet it's pretty in the summer, too! I love the banners they're hanging to honor the soldiers. Interesting to see your schools, makes me want to research the history of mine. It looks like an amazing place to have grown up - on an actual farm, near a small town. Your brother's dog - 🐾❤🐾! Thank you for sharing this with us!
I love Ohio...so many little places to discover...your area and your high school must be so small that you do not have a football team...rare to see a brand new track with no football field
I grew up in Norwood Ohio and would spend my summers on my Grand Parents Farm 3 miles south of Russellville a lot of great memories from that time I now live with my Wife 1 mile east of Russellville on a small farm we have a rather large Family and have many Family Gatherings on our farm where our kids, grands kids, and Great grands kid enjoy their time
I enjoyed the video Russel was my great great great grandfather have been to the park with my grandmother great grandmother who was born a Shaw and is buried there and and could tell the complete history including Russel was a riverboat captain and had at least ten children 2:00
Iam the oldest grandchild of Leo Caproni founder of Caproni’s Restaurant, when I was a kid we would visit Ripley Grandfather would take us fishing in Russellville
You look to be about my age. I grew up and went to school in Russellville. I also went to Ash Ridge. I don't remember you though. But when I was younger I was super introverted and didn't really talk to people so I guess it's not too surprising.
I grew up in nearby Georgetown and was SHOCKED to see a video about Russellville show up as a suggested watch on TH-cam. Great video start to finish! Would love to see you do Georgetown your next time through, there is a ton of history there.
I grew up in Bethel, Ohio and my first name is Russell. I discovered your website and found this video very interesting about this quite little village in Brown Co. I subscribed to your channel due to the video you made about Levanna and Utopia. I added some information on Levanna on this video #53, that you might find interesting concerning the Hotel. Thanks for the historic information.
"You can never go home" John says hold that thought . Ahh they say there is no place like hoe for the holidays. Even if that home was decades ago. Thanks for showing us this glimpse into your past John.
Contact the brown county historical society in Georgetown oh for information and pictures. Dr Ned Lodwick is president. He is vry friendly and will get you to the right resources
YOU HAD HAIR! lol I know how my area was built, they call it a "Planned community." There's not many farmhouses around anymore. Also, there's two tiny tiny unincorporate towns down this hill. I don't think there was any "post offices." I love your brother's dog. They're so cute!
My sister saw this and shared with the family. We grew up out there (we were city slicker transplants) and I know I didn't know all that history. I do remember when the Jeanie machine was installed and mail would be delivered with just a name and "Russellville, OH" on the envelope. And that was in the 1980's! Thanks for highlighting Russellville!
Funny you should mention that . . . I recently has reason to do a small jump into the history of my hometown in Missouri. Not a deep dive just surface info on the internet. There was so much I learned just from that. As I was reading, I wondered why every town doesn't have a class in school about the history of your town. I think a lot a young people would be interested in it. I certainly would have appreciated my town more while living there with the additional info. I love what you do. Keep it up!
The local history is so interesting, at least for us current or past residents. I knew quite a bit about my old county in Iowa. But I know that I have forgotten some, and more that I never heard. I thought about trading the Wise Guy about how he can now do another episode on how much has changed in those thirty years. I go back to see family now, and it has been 35 years. And I sometimes have to stop and go through my mind to make sure that I am where I thought I was. It is changed to where there is almost nothing familiar. Then I will round a corner, and I will see a view that seems almost totally unchanged. I guess that is why it is fun to .go down old roads from my past and see the new look.
Gee, John this was cool visit your hometown. My home town is Lenexa Kansas. I only went to school, kindergarten and first grade there. I remember running home after kindergarten to watch Liberace and watched him playing the piano. But today Lenexa has grown into a huge city. I haven't been back to Lenexa in years. Finding out where some of our highways run to is fun. Growing up in eastern Iowa, I would take Highway 61 to go north or south. Later in life, I listened to song "Mississippi Moon" , only to hear the line Driving down Highway 61". Grabbed out that ancient thing called a Road Atlas, and sure enough, the same road does go south to Mississippi!
I'm a Michigander so you are in my neck of the woods. Enjoyed the video and seeing the cool little town you grew up in. According to Find a Grave, Russell Shaw and his wife had 12 children. The memorial also lists 8 siblings and 10 half siblings!
Cool to see your accomplishments in track, awesome to know that your team was able to win so much without a facility. Thanks for including the dog, happy new year 😊
I would have know there was a cemetery there. I know every inch of highway and every foot of back road, every mile of railroad track or used to in Belmont County Ohio
What pretty countryside and so glad you got to relive some great childhood memories. State track champion certainly had to have been a highlight! Great old buildings and that yellow garage sure stands out! Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for sharing your childhood memories. It's amazing that a school without a track could produce a championship team. Wow! Love the eye-popping color scheme of the old Shell building.

Good point - similiar!
