I live in Southern Iowa-transplant from Des Moines. I love the smaller town and ghost town video's and learning the histories of the towns. You know there was a town in SE Iowa called New York, another called Bethlehem, High Point? Went with some friends and found New York cemetery, A tiny church at Bethlehem. I love exploring the area.
I checked to make sure of where I was talking about, but the Bohemian Cemetery is probably named that because the original settlers came from Bohemia, which is part of the Czech Republic in Europe. I knew it was around Germany somewhere because it played a factor in WW2.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy There used to be a logging company in Oregon named Bohemia. I knew a couple of the family (Stewart) through my wife's business interactions with them. I know the family purchased the company already named. The family is gone and I believe the company was absorbed by a larger company, probably Weyerhaeuser. Most of the companies holdings were based around Cottage Grove. Which, coincidentally is the covered bridge capital of Oregon. One walking covered bridge crosses the Coast Fork of the Willamette River which flows north, ultimately to Portland and the Columbia River. The bridge was constructed when we lived there in the late 1980s. It's just wide enough for walking and looks just like most covered bridges. I haven't seen your Bridges of Madison County video. Did you mention that John Wayne was born in Winterset?

I spent some time living in Iowa. One year, I experienced snow at least once in 9 of the 12 months of the year. But the summers are quite nice, for the most part.
Great trip. Iowa seems like a friendly state, at least the only place you were ran out of is a cemetery. Love when you film the animals and such. Been a long time since I saw corn stalks stacked that way. I think you did great on behind the scenes #2. As long as I know you got to eat well and a good, safe, comfortable place to sleep I'm happy, thanks for including the prices. I have traveled rather extensively through Iowa. Did a quick search and it does not look like you have been to Fairfield, Iowa yet. Google the story behind Maharishi University, interesting story. I was at the Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper crash site memorial on April 8th, 2024.👍
Another good video, which was no surprise to me. Grown use to the wonderful videos you produce. But this one made me very homesick for my native Iowa. Your videos of driving and see those beautiful rolling hills, with the sometimes winding road running through it. Cross country drives away from the beaten path is so rewarding in Iowa as well as most other states. It is the "world" rhat I prefer to see. Got a laugh at your comment about how dark it was in that one small town at dusk. Reminds me of rural Iowa back in the 1950's. We had manual yard lights that we shut off when we came in, no high powered night lights. Street lights in towns were dim enough you didn't see them till you were within a few miles of town. But rhe night sky was so beautiful back then, when all the lesser stars were visible. Fun fact on the jail cells. They are displayed now outside, but they were inside of town buildings when in use. In the small towns around where I grew up, if the police station was too dmall to include the cage, it might be in the fire station, city hall, or maintenance shed.. All in all, I feel your first Iiwa trip showed a very good representation of rural Iowa and it's small towns. Plenty of nice country roads, snall towns, and history One trip I have done parts of, but never got fully into before leaving Iowa was exploring Mississippi River towns on both sides of the River from St. Paul to St. Louis. Much beauty and history. Just wasn't disciplined enough to get it done.

The way to see Iowa is hit the gravel roads. You don't get to see all our hills and small valleys on the flattened highways. Many gems here if you care to find them to see.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I was speaking in general to anyone that comes here. Nothing person or directed 100% to you sorry u took it that way. Guess i should have said Folks vs you. sorry
Enjoyed this one. Few comments: I do not mind seeing your mug on camera, can you get out of the car and record a short bit outside more? Stop stressing about recording every town in the same weather and light conditions - this adds variety and seeing what you encountered along the way is fun to watch. Plum thicket cemetery was likely behind the lake enclosed by the corn field. You can find the cemetery on FG and many have GPS coordinates to help find specific headstones. Take a few flying lessons before you go to Alaska. I think it could really enrich the experience of flying in the backcountry.
Thank you! Good info. I get out of the car whenever I do a profile in the regular videos. These drive-throughs I don’t have the time if I’m gonna get accomplished the main reason for the trip. But like I said I’d love to go back and revisit someday!
Well if you don’t have time to stop, perhaps there is a way you can edit in a bit more of the areas you are driving through than the interior of the car. However this may be easier said than done, lol. Okay I confess, the dirt spot on the back window was distracting.
@@elizabethmurray3221 I would love to stop and film more of all the towns, it's just not feasible with the amount of daylight. And yeah my back windows are always dirty hahaha

That painting is fox hunting. Still looks the same today unfortunately. "Run to earth" means you've forced the prey to literally "go to ground" i.e as in the painting, the pack of hunting dogs have chased a fox back to it's den, in the earth. Rich dudes on horses will now send in terriers, the fox will be ripped apart, successful hunt bravo. Ahhh the beauty of English tradition 😕. Wonderful video, tho 😊 thanks.
There are very good Motel 6 motels in the country. It is likely the knowledge of the best Motel 6 motels come as a result of a word of mouth. Ironic some immature rotten apples treat any Motel 6 as if it was a place to trash. In other words, they do not care.

@@TravelwithaWiseguy Those states are pretty awful in the winter anyway. Google a town in South Dakota called "Scenic" I stumbled upon it outside The Badlands on a road trip and it has to be one of the coolest ghost town's I've seen.
@@akaglty Nice! Would love to visit that place!
Nice scenic drive. Love the old building s on main street in the towns.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love IA. Stayed in Iowa City one summer with my uncle. Been to Ottumwa a few times and Des Moines. Stopped to see the American Gothic house on one trip.
Nice! Unfortunately I missed that one!
😂😂🤣🤣 Loved the two ?? bending into the hood of the truck!! 👏👏👍😉
Thanks for mentioning my home town of Maquoketawhere u spent the night to bad the weather was so bad
Nice town!
I love your videos, the only thing I would like for you to do is when you find an old abandon church the if you can go in side that you would show a little more of it.
I try not to tresspass and often they have those signs there. Also they are often locked up even if they are abandoned. I'll try when I can though!
Field of Dreams is a tourist attraction that isn't real "touristy." What I mean by that is it's never really crowded with people. There is plenty of space
Very true. I really enjoyed it!
I’d like to see more “interesting” accommodations in your videos. I’m glad that you’re showing where you stay and what you’re spending, but the US 50 videos I particular could’ve used at least a few more unique places to stay.
Loved the motor court-style motel for $67 a night!
I definitely try to stay in ones that are interesting as long as they fit my budget!
You passed thru my old stomping ground, Redfield, Iowa
I love your videos have watched all of them . Just a suggestion on smallest towns in Iowa if ever back that way lineville Iowa is my hometown and it sits on Missouri/Iowa line would love if you could do that town .
I had it on my to-do list this trip but unfortunately ran out of time!
You need to do another water tower video at some point
Haha yes! Love water towers 😊
Your "site" is bigger than you think. I have no concern for what you eat (lol). Your growth, even since I started watching, has grown dramatically, and that's a fact. Very nice video, be good, be safe !!
I appreciate that! It feels small when seeing others, but I know it’s a process and I really am thankful for people like you!
I still can't say "Eisenhower Airport." I have always known it as Mid-Continent Airport and that is probably what I will always call it.
I was so impressed , you went to my home town of Americus
Nice town!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I went through 1-12 in school there and learned to farm in the country there( growing up as a farm boy that was very easy and 2 older guys taught me how to build a house, oh the life in a small town)
We lived 3 miles west of
oh Clarinda, if you're not familiar with old NBC Tournament history Clarinda used to make annual apperances in that tournament ever year
I didn’t know about that!
Bohemia is a part of Germany, and the names I saw in the cemetery are German, and probably from Bohemia - The Kingdom of Bohemia is one of the biggest kingdom states that made up united Germany.
I love your small town videos.
I really love watching your videos
Much appreciated 😊
Maybe some of the small town dives/floozies? Dunno, I'm reachin'
I like it!
Don't really need another cooking ch, just keep doing what doing please
😊
Thank you for another great video. I loved it😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
Adding video on the places you stay and eat would be nice. Everyone loves food we are always looking for that whole in the wall place that has top notch food.
Noted!
What I would like to see.... just say the direction you're going n s e w and maybe what highway or county rd you're on. Thanks😂
Thanks! With the maps I try to show where I’m going 😊 This one was a little more generic
My brother lives in Cedar Falls.😮
Great town! Been there many times!
You can tell me what you think of your meal. I like your historic comments. A movie or parts of being filmed in an area. I like the fact that videos are family freindly. It's interesting to listen and find out about repeated town names.
Thank you!!
The way to see Iowa is hit the gravel roads. You don't get to see all our hills and small valleys on the flattened highways. Many gems here if you care to find them to see.
You obviously haven’t seen many of my other videos because gravel/dirt roads is what I mostly do.
Nice this is America small town very good reviews
Will you be doing iowa small towns that continue in the future i know your busy planning but was just asking you
I don’t have any immediate plans to be back in Iowa, but I’m definitely going to go back there again. Hopefully soon!
Quite interesting 😽❤️
😊
I like all your videos. I especially like the smallest towns in nebraska because I live In nebraska.
That was a great trip! Thank you!
AN INTERESTING OVERVIEW OF YOUR EARLIER IOWA VIDEOS!!
ONE YOU MIGHT DO IS FROELICH IOWA.
THIS IS THE FIRST TOWN IN THE USA THAT THE FIRST EXAMPLE OF THE MODERN FARM TRACTOR WAS BUILT WITH AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE!
THIS TRACTOR ITSELF WAS A FAILURE, AND VERY SOON OTHERS
TRIED THEIR HANDS AT IT AND SUCCEEDED!
ALSO YOU MENTIONED ALASKA!
I HAVE BEEN THER TWICE, DELIVERING LARGE CRANE TRUCKS,
ONE TO ANCHORAGE, THE OTHER TO FAIRBANKS, FROM OLATHE KS.
ANY TRIP TO ALASKA REALLY BEGINS AT DAWSON CREEK, BRITISH COLUMBIA!
WILL BE GLAD TO SHARE THE ADVENTURES AND ADVICE WITH YOU !!
Awesome thank you! Yeah I’ll be looking for tips maybe next summer 😊
did you eat any cool, small town places that you recommend?
I usually only stop and eat dinner on these trips as breakfast and lunch are done quickly or at the hotel. Only one was the Stuart bar and grill. Nice place!
By any chance did you run in to Cousin Eddie 😊
Unfortunately (or fortunately) not 😂😂
Have you ever seen a rain 😊
Rain?
They mean the song, :) " Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Lyrics: Someone told me long ago / There's a calm before the storm / I know, it's been comin' for some time / When it's over, so they say / It'll rain a sunny day /...@@TravelwithaWiseguy
Very interesting video,
Thanks!
Jotn Wayne from Winterset
11:30. I laughed.
😂😂
The history of towns reviews if plzce to stay a lot of town have better stays than cities food too
Agreed
You were hanging around in Maquoketa and didn't go see the caves??
Unfortunately didn’t have time on this trip with the others places I needed to go
Why no wind mill
Where was the windmill I missed?
As soon as it starts getting crowded i would leave.
😊
I would rather be there than in New York.
Thank you!!

There are very good Motel 6 motels in the country. It is likely the knowledge of the best Motel 6 motels come as a result of a word of mouth. Ironic some immature rotten apples treat any Motel 6 as if it was a place to trash. In other words, they do not care.
For sure! I find ratings on websites like booking.com are helpful in finding the good ones!
No pictures of food! I went to Antarctica last year and before I went I tried looking at TH-cams. You go all the way to Antarctica and all you show is your food, the airport, the bus taking you to the shop, etc etc etc. Useless! But oh, the girl was pretty so I guess that's why the hundreds of thousands of likes.
Haha the pretty girl always wins 😂
I watched your videos before and I've enjoyed them. But this one you just kept telling us where you were but never showed us anything.
Well this is a behind the scenes video so it’s more about the making of the video and not the destinations. This type of video has been requested by several people. I appreciate you watching other videos too 😊
Okay I get it now. I will continue to watch your videos I've always enjoyed him
That's stupid, you have to go south to go north
I didn't know what you were talking about when I first read this, but I'm guessing its about flying south to Dallas then going north to Iowa.
Yes, flying to Dallas. Sorry. I would think it's more efficient to do a layover in KC but what do I know?@@TravelwithaWiseguy
Definitely more efficient but Dallas has more options I guess and was cheaper. Pretty quick flight from Wichita to Dallas. Less than an hour.
