I turned my life around in 2018. I bought my first house in the end of 2023. I quit smoking cigarettes, stopped drinking, stopped eating out and sacrificed my social life the entire time. Now I get to enjoy the fruits of my labor without much fear due to my sacrifice and patience.
Sacrifice being the key word there.

Definitely possible right now and congrats on the hard work. Honestly what worries me is the trend. It’s definitely still possible today, but it’s harder than it was 20 years ago for sure. Begs the question of what it will be like in 20 more years.

I am from a place where houses are considered cheap nationally. Even then, if I want a house that could support a family, it is still insanely expensive. That is without the interest being a part of the conversation, which makes it nearly unattainable.

My fiancée and I are closing on our first home later this month. We are 22 and 23. For everybody saying that it is impossible, it’s not. Get decent paying job and stop telling yourself you can’t, because then you won’t.

I got my degree in mathematics and got a good paying job. No help with the down payment. 3% down on a $450,000 house. I don’t carry any debt. I got a Pell grant for college and worked as an RA to cover housing. No wealth inherited, my parents didn’t even graduate high school and are broke.

No. No sales of new homes didnt rise. It was investor groups who buy up homes to then rent them out.

To be fair it's a broken system. It's the best system there is but it's still a broken system. We need to evolve from this free market capitalism. Or at least introduce heavy regulations forcing corporations to be more personal focused instead of profit focused.
