How bout job sites that have no running water? How do they wash their hands? Are you planning to force employers/GCs to have stations on open construction sites? I'm a HVAC service technician in Canada. How are we supposed to feel being sent into office buildings to change filters when our office deems it necessary for them to work from home?
@@joshuapowell9501 Sick leave is designed for being sick. Not prevention of catching a new disease that has started a pandemic unlike nothing we've seen since 1918.
Will if we stop voting all our money onto the check and set a side a 25 cents (just a suggestive) per hour for sick leave that would help. Also for my situation the contractor I work for all the work ran into a halt, 90% of our work is with the State and Federal building and they are shut down for the time being, and no one in the building to let us in to the work. The contractor was talking about having journeyman work at the shop and laying off a couple apprentices but instead I took a lay off so the apprentices can continue having a check for at least another week or two before things actually hit the fan. I filled for unemployment for the first time and the 1st time in 5 years since I started with this company I will be out of work but once things pick right up, I am set to go back to work for them.
msa1985 If you can’t afford to take off work, you’re going to get the whole jobsite sick. If they’re really concerned about stopping the spread of viruses, paid sick leave is an obvious solution.
Should take whatever PAC fund money the UA decides to give the presidential nominee and use it to support our guys who are out of work due to this epidemic.
Pat Keane we have 365,000 workers in the United States and Canada. We gave $1,000,000 to Hillary. That’s gonna give each of us $3. I’m not trying to be an ass at all and I hope you stay safe brother.
Stay focused on keeping our people working and working with precautions! UA local 13 has been doing a great job staying open and keeping our men and women safe. Thank you! We need these jobs!
Thanks for the update Mark. I'm a local 130 plumber out of Chicago. Governor Pritzker has just issued a stay at home order and yet our jobs are not shutting down, we are feeling like they are playing Russian Roulette with our lives and the lives of our families. The company I work for now has at least 1 person that I know of with Corona, and the message i'm getting from our superintendent is that "even if we take a few weeks off the virus is still going to be there when we come back"...They have been laying people off a lot lately and we feel like if we "self quarantine" we won't have a job to come back to...kind of caught between a rock and a hard place here.
Agreed. I would love an explanation of how new construction is "essential work". O wait I believe our governor has 2 buildings set to open in the late spring. Go figure! God forbid he has any delays on his buildings. Only construction work that should be allowed during a stay at home order is emergency service calls. My wife and 5 children are at home but wait that don't matter because I have to possibly expose myself everyday at work then go home and expose my family. What gives?
Got more of a chance dying leaving your home driving than this pandemic, calm down shaky ! That's why they tell us during our apprenticeship to save like a ww2 widow and live like one ! ( live modestly +/- )
Construction trades you are all ok to go to work in close quarters BUT dont come to the shop or supply houses our doors will be locked and we will be working from home with masks on, but you guys are all good, lol oh we get it we keep America going and if we stop everything stops sounds like we're sacrificial not essential but essential does sound better ;). Its about time we get treated like it, NO hazard pay, NO pto, NO vacation pay , no work no pay, I'm sick of those working from home telling us if we aren't comfortable we can always go home , well that doesn't work for us if we don't go we don't get paid , we are no different than anyone else we have families to support also. My father has a heart condition my grandmother is on her death bed and I have small children, Hell no I don't feel comfortable spreading some I caught at work to them but we have no options Bill's need paid mouths need feed.... thanks for another video telling us to wash our hands :)

AT A MINIMUM WE NEED HAZARD PAY! We work until we get sick then have to take 14days on unemployment.
Bryan Bello Dont you have a vacation fund you can use?
@@johng4954 vacation is not for things like this. Sick leave is designed for these situations

@msa1985 yeah this is one of those pick your battles type thing
Thanks for the encouraging words Brother. I'm a retiree and doing my part. Hope everyone else does the same.
Thank you for the positive words, Mark. It is exactly what is necessary at this time. To all our other UA Brothers and Sisters stay safe and positive.
Action is needed, not repeating everything we hear everyday....

No running water on our jobsites, no hand washing stations, and its damn near impossible to social distance while putting pipe in the air

Thank you brother, fight on.
Strong words in dire times. We will get through this.
All you can do is the best you can do. When they give you lemons, make lemonade. This will eventually end.
Hazard pay, sick leave, and a labor party so the whole working class can get it. This is what we need
Good job with this!
