11:15 Just a small correction, The EX Drama CDs do wrap up the story for the Anime (the first and second take place during the anime, but the latter ones happen after), but not the manga. The Manga had different Drama CD's (referred to as the "Comic CDs) that were side stories that were written by the author herself. She even did new art and made original characters for those and went on to be Blue Sphere's character designer!
@@TheKHC I think for some reason they aren't listed on the wiki, And since these CDs are Japanese exclusive It doesn't really help lol. The confusion also comes from the fact the manga's English translation/scans were left unfinished too (ended at chapter 30 of Volume 6), so people assume it ended the same way EX did (which the manga's ending was WAAY better and was released after the anime wrapped up) The game itself also had 2 Drama CDs, so everything is lost in confusion haha
Yeah that explains a lot. Thanks for clearing that up. I always try to go through everything myself to form an opinion but to even do that i'd need to know of its existancr and so fan sources are usually the most reliable collections of such things. Unfortunately this means things slip through the cracks sometimes
Star Ocean Always looked and Sounded like the RPG series where people couldn't decide if they loved or hated it, but not in the way that grabbed my attention or catched my eye. Compared to like PS, Xeno, or whatever, Star Ocean kinda looked middle of the road to me art and aesthetic wise to me, but the gameplay looked fine. I do have an interest in 6, but that's only cause Akiman doing the character designs, which I find kinda interesting, and maybe 4, but only cause 360 era jrpgs interest me. I might check out second story R to see what it's all about.
It was pretty refreshing hearing your perspective of playing through these games in a non grindy way. I haven’t had the chance to play second story r, divine force and…5 lol
I played a ton of Second Story when it came out, but that was a zillion years ago. I do play The Last Hope from time to time, and I like it, right up until the blindside system starts being countered all the time, making it a huge gamble to use and resulting in fights taking at least a decade each to finish. The gem board does suck, and you know it sucks because the developers made a few areas where you can easily max out green gems and exploit the crap out of the mechanics. Now that I said zillion, I want to play Zillion again. That game was so good. It could never be equaled, even its own sequels. I still haven't watched the anime though. Play it if you ever get the chance. It was on the Sega Master System. It's a shame you didn't get a chance to play The Divine Force. I know a lot of people who loved it. It's not a triple-A title, but it's not trying to be, and these days, that's probably a positive. The KHC: Masculinizing the children. Seriously. One of them grew a mustache watching this. It's getting kind of weird. The other one started smoking. He's eight. Here in America, you can't drink or smoke at that age. You can buy a gun though, but that's mostly because this is Texas, where the only crime is not owning one. Happy New Year, and you have a lovely day as well.
You mentioned Blade Runner being your favorite movie. Which version of the film do you think is the best? I like the director's cut, but I have a friend who prefers the theatrical cut, because unless you're familiar with the book, without narration, you're not going to understand anything about the movie. I can understand where he comes from. For example, without reading the book, the reverence that humanity has for animals doesn't really make sense. Also, is there any chance at a review of the adventure game? It got a release a few years ago for modern hardware, and I'd love to hear your take. Maybe even stream a play through? One last question: what is the single best Philip K. Dick book to movie translation? There's a surprisingly large number of his stories that have been made into movies, staring everyone from Ben Affleck, to Nicholas Cage, to Keanu Reeves, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger. But are any of them any good? Your thoughts?
I'm quite partial to the director's cut. I think the ambiguity of the film lends itself to interpretation in a very interesting way and helps it to stand out from the book. I would not be opposed to reviewing the adventure game as I do quite like it and have talked about adventure games before (I count stuff like Hotel Dusk or Ace Attorney for that) but in my experience ScummVM has always been a massive pain to record and "enhanced edition" looks so bad it could give you a migrane. I'd argue Blade Runner is the best adaptation of any of his works as it doesn't try to just adapt it 1:1 and instead uses its themes and ideas to create something that only truly works in a movie environment.
@@TheKHC That ambiguity works for a lot of his movies. The ending of NEXT and Total Recall come to mind. I'm a fan of A Scanner Darkly myself. It's weird and otherworldly in a terrifying kind of way. Stephen King is considered an extremely fast writer because he can crank out 12 pages a day when he's writing. Philip K. Dick would lock himself away with LSD and amphetamines and write 35 a day. The man was a legend. I despised Blade Runner 2049. The only thing I liked about it was that it showed how desolate the world really is in that time period. Everyone that could get off Earth did, and enormous cities are inhabited by dozens of people, if they're inhabited at all. Maybe they shouldn't have used an actual Ken doll for their protagonist. I like a lot of Ridley Scott's movies, but I think him trying to link Blade Runner to Alien was stupid. He did give us Kingdom of Heaven though, and I love that movie. My only real problem (except for the glaring historical inaccuracies) is that none of the various groups of knights would have spoken the same language, and they sure as heck wouldn't speak English. Richard the Lionheart probably never spoke English, and he was the king of England! Still probably the best movie about the Crusades.
@@TheKHC That was King Arthur, much earlier in history than The Crusades. It had fewer historical inaccuracies than Kingdom of Heaven, and did a far better job representing the daily life and challenges for knights in the era. The horses were more realistic as well.
Glad to see the 2nd game's recent remake is a starting point since i always want to get into them but didnt know which entry to start with You alluded to legend of heroes games in some sections which i also want to delve deeper into now that i played the first two trails games, but wanted to know whats your thoughts on them briefly, more so the non-trails stuff cause i dont see much discussion abt it
I genuinely think that the Dragon Slayer and especially the Xanadu games (except Tokyo, that game is awful) are excellent. The legend of heroes subseries on the other hand is a mess. The original trilogy kinda sucks, Trails in the Sky 1 and 2 are great and everything else is trash lol
“This outer space really does look like an ocean full of stars… a star ocean yea?”

I can only think of like 2 instances in the series where they actually say the words "star ocean" and one of them is almost verbatim this
