I was expecting the whole story, including Milady's scenes and execution.

I never understood the title. There's four men in the team, so it should be The Four Musketeers.
I understand where your coming from @evencredeur7498.
However I believe the title of the book The Three Musketeers was called The Three Musketeers because Athos Porthos and Aramis are full fledged Musketeers.
Where D'artagnan was a cadet in this story not a Musketeer.
