Hi Andrew, Andrew here :) Mate this came together quite well. Personal favourite image was the vertical composition at 4:26. I think you captured everything that morning was about. Early sunrise, clear skies, a touch of snow and clouds on the mountain, mountain hiking, beautiful scenery with Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain, and that crisp feel. Good explanation of the image breakdown at the end too. I should have come with you and Richard that evening but I am a glutton for punishment and couldn't resist the temptation atop the mountain.

Awesome video Andrew. Your images are amazing. I really loved the first one, the composition really leads the eye to the subject of the mountain. All the others were amazing as well but that one really caught the eye. Great stuff!!
Thanks for that Tim, it was actually a challenging location as there wasn't much to use a foreground interest so I had to do the best I could with the ridge of the moutain. There's parts of Tasmania that feel very much like New Zealand.
Curious to see how you went about shooting my local spot. Great images, even if you did shoot the most popular locations. Bit of a tip, if you walked a bit over and past Hanson's Peak you can shoot from behind the Twisted lakes, which is a much less commonly shot location (and results in even more fantastic captures imo).
Looked like a tough start to the day, was the weather worse than you expected or was it normal for a Tasmania winter? Probably the first horizontal (crop or pano?) and the boathouse clicked loudest for me but it was a close call. Cheers.
great images Andrew. How do you personally combine your exposures ie do you use luminosity masks or HDR in lightroom or do you use layers and masks in photoshop?
Nice images, Andrew. I winced at the footage of your descent over icy rocks. I’ve made a pair of mini-spikes a standard part of my winter photo kit since I broke an ankle on a hike a few years ago and had to hobble from the tree line down to the base of the mountain. Keep up the good work, and be safe. :-)
Thanks George, i did in fact slip a few times on my way down and while I didn't catch it on video I did hurt my knee which became a slight issue for the rest of the trip. Some spikes might be a worthy investment.

Such amazing images Andrew, and no favourites here, loved them all. In terms of the last image, it was a great example of taking different images of the scene to get the final outcome as the detail front to back was exquisite. Just back from a weekend on the east coast of England and was trying out some of the techniques from your previous seascapes videos. Some turned out ok i think
Of the 4-5 shots [ the last landscape you did in this episode] which ones did you use and how did you decide to blend? How did the DR of the D850 do on shadow recovery? I have not put my 850 to the test yet, just getting use to all the settings at the moment.
Magical spot to capture Andrew, well done. But a quiet warning, a lot of Tasmania is National Park and wildlife. And thus all No drone zones. Especially the cradle mountain area, national parks services consistently monitor videos of tasmania for drone misuse so please be careful. Loved your video!!!!! Get on Tasmanian Parks and wildlife website or a few of the Tasmanian drone Facebook pages for more information.
Bizarre. I can't think of a less intrusive method of photographing wilderness areas. I've never seen any published evidence that drone use disturbs wildlife and the increasing numbers of restrictions on drone use have more to do with the presumed irritation they cause to humans rather than the environment. (and no .... I'm not a drone user.....)

No problem ..... most of the US national parks have gone the same way and privately owned estates in scotland ..... which you can freely roam over .... have banned drones as well. It seems to be an increasing issue ...... just surprised that even a remote spot like Tasmania has also joined the banning club. I can understand restrictions in very popular spots ..... but if they are that overrun by tourists then surely the answer is to restrict numbers. Wonderful scenery .... I must visit someday .. !!
Great to see you back in Tassie, you got some epic shots. As I mentioned I had 3 nights at Tarraleah with Community Based Support, was a bit restricted in what I could do being with a group of carers. We did get a boat trip on Lake St Clair. Not easy to photograph from a moving boat (only one small window opening) but got a few photos. I wish I had my polariser to take the shine off the water. Episode 3, well worth the wait. Tasmania is so beautiful. Reminds me of the Sierra Nevada here in California. A question for the other Andrew; are those landforms glaciated? I had a hard time distinguishing between the bracketed and composite morning pic's taken near the top. Which one is which? The boathouse photo is spectacular too. I'm wondering; is there a time when the trees turn color in Tasmania? If so, your next trip to Tasmania could be in your fall. I can visualize the boathouse with fall colors surrounding the background. The last photo at lake level and your use of the textural differences with the plants worked perfectly. My eye was drawn to the detail of the foreground, the glassy lake, then the mountain. Great composition, leading the viewer to the peaks. Excellent. Looking forward to part 4.

You might consider something like these when the world is glazed over with ice, they work pretty well. www.stabilgear.com/shop/outdoor-recreation/stabilicers-lite/ (no I don't have any relationship with the company, I just live in the Northeast US and know they work) For thicker ice you would need something with bigger spikes.

Beautiful photos! You should use a pure mechanical camera like me then! I never have to worry about batteries!

Hey Steve, yeah that is a glacial valley. When you walk around Dove lake you can see outcrops of moraine deposits at the lake level!
