    UPDATE! I only had to change the numbered faceplate as the rest worked fine although the door handle was a bit weathered, it works OK. I had the number pad changed and replaced in 15 minutes thanks to your great tutorial. Changed the programming code for an easy reminder, my birthday, and changed the entry code. Only glitch was I forgot to disconnect the power cord and couldn't figure out why the unit wouldn't come apart. ARGH! I clued in after a minute or two and it came apart and went back together like a charm. All very easy. Thank you my friend! x 😊🇨🇦

    Hi, great video! Thanks. I can only engage the deadbolt by entering the code after I hit the Schlage button. I understand you are supposed to be able to lock it from the outside by simply hitting the Schlage button and turning the lock ...when I do this it just spins. Any advise please??

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Pam. So it does engage when you do it the other way? Cuz I’ve had these before a few times when that little long flat part inside isn’t seated properly in the deadbolt and just pops out that’s why it wasn’t engaging for me but it wouldn’t engage either way. Sometimes I was able to pop it back in and get it to work and one time I had to actually return it and get a replacement because it wouldn’t stay. That was just one out of many that I’ve done so hopefully that’s not your case.

    Hello what is the advantage of two strike plates? I ask because when changing the lock again, if you removed the wood to fit the deadbolt lock ( the first time) my thought is the next lock & strike plate installation will be ill fitted or perhaps to loose? I guess my question if you start with two strike plates you gotta stay with two strike plates. Is that right?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s mainly for extra reinforcement for forced entry break in. You can always leave that one in and just replace the surface one. It should be quite similar to other brands size wise I believe.

    I had a similar model for several years but eventually the internal mechanism stopped catching in unlock mode. Looking to replace it but the other models I've tried only have the electronic deadbolt movement; which means the batteries only last about a month. In the type you're showing the batteries will last a year. I can't really find a good solution for replacement.

    What should I be looking for if both outside and inside are not flush against the door when I screw them together?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds to me mainly like something isn’t quite together right. Like it’s binding up a little. It should pull right together once everything fits correctly.

    Why does the outside lock just spin freely? How do I correct this?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing to check if you take it apart the flat pin type piece that is in the outside section and sticks in through the deadbolt piece can sometime pop loose in there. I’ve had that happen before and just have to re-insert it.

    • @ReluctantMystic
      @ReluctantMystic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmartEasyDIYer Nope. That's not it. I just took it all apart and then carefully put it back together. Everything fits but that outside lock just keeps spinning freely

    • @ReluctantMystic
      @ReluctantMystic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmartEasyDIYer Luckily, I have a smart wife; she figured it out. The outside lock is supposed to spin until everything locks. By the way, your video is great, it saved me some money hiring someone to do this job.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @auggie I didn’t know you meant just till it engages as I’ve had problems with these not engaging at all before even entering code and pushing the button outside so that’s what I thought you meant longer ago. Then you have to take it apart and check that flat pin piece.

      @@SmartEasyDIYerMy outside lock piece spins freely (when locked) and the actual physical key that came with it doesn't open. Any ideas , is it the same thing yoiu mention above? Could you be more specific about "the flat pin type piece"?

    A disadvantage I found with this lock is locking it from the outside. If you hit the Schlage button and turn the lock to the locked position, you need to sit there and wait for several seconds before you can test to make sure everything is locked. Otherwise, if you go to unlock it....it will.
