All those sour-faced people in the audience, ignorant of being in the presence of a genius. She's got the lot: beauty, talent, genius and humility. Along with Bjork, she's on another plane to everyone else.
I really like that PJ's persona off stage is very humble and soft-spoken while she is a force of nature on stage and able to express her various alter-egos and brash personalities into her work.
PJ Harvey is talented, creative, gracious and even a bit humble. Her lyrics and music are powerful and meaningful, much more so than so than that of most of her contemporary pop singers. Let England Shake is an amazing album. She deserves the award and more.
no one deserved this more. so dedicated to her craft. she's humble, well spoken, classy, a true artist and an inspiration. let england shake is a bonafide masterpiece.
It was only a couple of months back that I heard this album for the first time. An absolutely gut-wrenching, haunting, ethereally melodic, heart-breaking piece of work. A masterpiece for the ages.
i know a lot of good artists were nominated for that award, but honestly, how comforting is when justice is served, she totally deserved the award and the recognition on such a masterpiece
She totally dererved it. Its last song 'The Colour of the Earth' made me cry the first time I listened to it and its the first time that has ever happened to me with a song. Very touching album. I'm glad and surprised it won.
How modest she stands in front of the audience, of her competitors - so different teh way she acts on stage where pure energy and her artistic skills count. Kudos!!! 🥰
+Marcio Couto - I've never seen so many pissy faces! Haha. That's the difference with U.S. awards shows: Americans are JUST as pissed off they didn't win, but they've perfected the fake, gracious loser, 'happy-for-someone-else' face.
she is incredible talented, humble ARTIST well deserved this, and ppl watching in the audience sitting like a stone is just make her shining more intensively. Love you PJ
As sucky as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has become,PJ should be included. She has written a lot of great music throughout the years and she should be recognized for what she's accomplished..Thank God she hasn't sold out and she's doing it on her own terms.A true artist. An original and that's a rarity in the music business..
She put a lot into this one. As she said, she really wanted to make something that would last. I think this album, and her work generally, will last. She deserved this award.
I just adore her so much, always have. A very special artist she is. Her work speaks for itself in so many beautiful thought provoking ways. Congrats again PJ WE LOVE YOU.
I remember her being on Jay Leno shortly after 9/11 I think it was in October 2001 and he asked her about her being in Washington the day it happened and she said it was a pretty scary night. It certainly became a good influence on her well deserved award winning album.
+Gunnhild Edwards - Actually it is more Eerie because her album at the time, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, released just a year before seem to be an ode to New York. And songs like Kamikaze seems a bit prophetic.
PJ made one of the most emotionally accurate and hard to master albums to date. and its dangerously pleasant to listen to, too ! absolutely wonderful. not one person in rock and roll or popular music managed to balance a ship of personal - impersonal tides to a direct-indirect musical masterpiece. its truly a hard task to master. the people in the audience are strangely unsupportive of that, its true. true that you can taste it in the room, its quite unbelievable, and its sad for them... i would imagine such a deep level of endurance, exploration and wisdom as shown by harvey will get all the generous praise it deserves. might they not throw envy aside? as musicians, are they great enough for that. perhaps if they understand its exactly whats stopping them from making an important piece themselves. ah, humans. all praise to polly, again.
I cannot agree with you more. I feel the same way, every single composition on the Album..simply dazzles...White Chalk (itself a masterpiece) was warming up for this One...for me the track that stands out from a sea of brilliance....is 'All and Everyone"..one of her best songs Ever..
Love that she got recognized shes termed as underground music but shes got more talent than most. Thank god Pop music did not win, we need more rock music again and less made over BS in music
in January 2011 I heard The words maketh murder and I commented on youtube that I couldn´t wait for PJ to win the Mercury. 8 months later - she won. I was right and she deserved it.
I detest when women in music are reduced to people just discussing their outfits, especially since PJ Harvey is such a genius, although everybody watching this video knows that, but her outfit is really ahead of its time. Super unique and eccentric- at the time you didn't get that often, but nowadays if you watch any modern fashion event they've all gone that way. Obviously here for her music but just thought it was interesting- she's ahead of the curve in every way
most artists who win this thing are either established independents or rising talents who make culturally impacting and creative music. and i'm sorry but nobody deserved this more than PJ. that album is the album of the ages. it will be the album the kids will turn toward decades down the road for inspiration. this is PJ's most accomplished and most ambitious work to date.
I think the difference between P.J. & Adelle is much deeper than that. For one, P.J. doesn’t have apathy for music, where as Adelle needs a man to break up with her before she has the inspiration to have someone write the music for her. Secondly, P.J. worked her ass off to make it as a respected musician. Im sure Adelle worked hard to get where she is, but she didn’t pay her dues. Adelle didnt tour the world playing small venues for change, so she could later win a Mercury, she bought her way in
@salvadory It's thanks largely to Jools Holland that the late Amy Winehouse was discovered. He gave her her first tv break in 2003 as he did similarly to PJ Harvey on 1993, although she may have got tv exposure a year earlier at the Reading Festival
all brilliant for their individual uniqueness. frankly, you may not feel an affinity for LES but for PJ's body of work,it is quite possibly her most compelling, most poignant album to date. and that because of her brilliant writing and its subject matter.
OMG! Adele got robbed!! Just kidding. I have to admit I am rarely surprised by music these days, but this album stunned me. One of the most incredible things I've ever heard. Glad that the right people, not just the most popular ones, are being acknowledged.
@happysappy21 since jools almost singlehandedly gives performers like pj harvey exposure on his long running television music shows he is forgiven- he has helped launch the careers of many greats and supported music since i can remember
@anodreams That may have been either her mum (but I'm not exactly sure) or one of the co - managers Polly thanks in her acceptance speech. She also may be someone else entirely.
All those sour-faced people in the audience, ignorant of being in the presence of a genius. She's got the lot: beauty, talent, genius and humility. Along with Bjork, she's on another plane to everyone else.
Seriously never liked Adele but began despising her after seeing this. she also just totally dismissed maya rudolph last nights SNL during goodbyes
Kate Bush, tho!
@@louduva9849 Yeah, Bjork, Kate Bush and PJ Harvey are LEGENDSSS
And Tori Amos.
What a great comment! I totally agree with you! PJ Harvey is way far on another higher level than the rest.
She deserved this more than anyone in that room. A truly gifted artist. One either gets it or they don’t but those that do love and cherish her.
I really like that PJ's persona off stage is very humble and soft-spoken while she is a force of nature on stage and able to express her various alter-egos and brash personalities into her work.

Polly is creative and original, she makes music that means something, unlike some of the shite she was up against
She totally dererved it. Its last song 'The Colour of the Earth' made me cry the first time I listened to it and its the first time that has ever happened to me with a song. Very touching album. I'm glad and surprised it won.
Fantastic album definitely worth the mercury prize!!! Pj is one of the very few real rock artists out there. ❤
I love PJ Harvey
If you were to lose to anyone, it's best to be to the likes of a Legend in the making...PJ Harvey
she was a legend after her first album dropped
It is the most important rock album since Radiohead’s “Kid A”.
Yes! I second this.
The album is a masterpiece. Thoroughly deserved.
How modest she stands in front of the audience, of her competitors - so different teh way she acts on stage where pure energy and her artistic skills count. Kudos!!! 🥰
Adele's face.

Yes Lol.
There is the difference between a true artist and song writer and then a ... TV product karaoke singer.
she is incredible talented, humble ARTIST well deserved this, and ppl watching in the audience sitting like a stone is just make her shining more intensively. Love you PJ

Well Deserved. She's a Legend.
I LOVE her!!! - and Let England shake is such a great one! A true masterpiece,
Was a well deserved win.
She deserved that win, what a great singer song writer but humanitarian as well.

2021 and still so happy about this award

Class act. So sweet, so magical yet so humble.
Well deserving! Indeed an album, piece of art, that would last!
One of the best albums, if not the best, ever made. You have definitely succeeded in your goal, PJ!
She is a genius. She deserves every award going for her beyond incredible input to musical history.

Love that she got recognized shes termed as underground music but shes got more talent than most. Thank god Pop music did not win, we need more rock music again and less made over BS in music
So deserved, every song is a jewel.
Smart and elegant. The world needs more artists like her.
When I heard first single, right before the album came out, I said I couldn't wait for her to collect her 2nd Mercury, 8 months later - voila.
Haha Adeles face. Richly deserved, Peej.
Who?
Haha . Jog on tubby😂
in January 2011 I heard The words maketh murder and I commented on youtube that I couldn´t wait for PJ to win the Mercury. 8 months later - she won. I was right and she deserved it.
Fabulous!! She is a brilliant artist.
Amazing artist, I could not think of a better album than Let England Shake to win this Prize. Well deserved Polly s2.
Was in DC on 9/11 too. A scary day. I went to her show the night before too.
I really love this woman!🤍
The most deserving winner. Incredible album. The best album. The winner.
Let PJ shake 7 dislikes, i guess you're Adele's fans
Love PJ. What a gracious person. Well done girl
love Let England Shake, probably my fave album of 2011..so I'm glad she won...and she's a Lady :)

Why on God's green earth didn't Holland immediately hand her the award?
He always seems to bumble his way through these events, I have no idea how he keeps getting hosting jobs.... couldn't run a chook raffle!
jason crumpet omg what was that about? Holland is a fud.
Best Deserved Winner of the Mercury Prize

I knew that she would win it the minute I heard the first single. In January 2011.
She makes me happy to breathe.
She no doubt is a legend.
❤❤liefde voor iedereen
Excelente! estos SI son unos premios a la Música.
@paprika82 'The Glorious Land', the third song off 'Let England Shake'. Great song! :)

I have this wild urge to make a coat hanger tiara with seagull feathers.
God bless her.

@anodreams That may have been either her mum (but I'm not exactly sure) or one of the

@MrJeremydobson Indeed, love that one!
What's the name of the song they play when she's walking up to the stage?
Well deserved.
Chris Corner's older sister 😍 HBD Polly ✌️
Let England Shake!!!!'
Adele Shmedell. I love PJ!!!
@Fender1976uk What I meant was she's made enough money, so what's the big deal to her if she didn't win the Mercury prize.
