Lucy abby obviously we don’t know their situation but top unis like Cambridge do accept people with lower grades if their circumstances prevented them from getting the grades they wanted or they have shown potential etc etc. One thing I do know is that Cambridge doesn’t do clearing or adjustment so they must have applied originally :)
My predicted grades were AAAA. So thats how I got UCL as my insurance and Cambridge as my firm.
Also I was very excited when I received my results and obviously very happy with my grades so I really hope I haven't come across cocky because that was obviously not my intention xx

once u get to know the formula (the base) you’ll think it’s more easier since maths is normally just straightforward. hope it helps

I got ABB (A in maths, Bs in phys and bio) and I was with the same board as you and I know the tests were awful! I only got the A by that one mark on the boundary tho... stressful!

Congratulations!!! I got an A in maths too. I’m studying maths and music at Leeds (I got A in Music and B in further maths). I never got anything above a C in mocks and I scraped a B in further mocks with much lower grade boundaries and the music exam was hard. I’m still shocked

M H okay well this revision thing worked with me considering I had to revise both maths and further maths within three months to get from C/D to A/B so here it goes:
1. Do the mixed exercise from every single chapter from start to finish (unless you’re doing well in a whole paper - whole of pure or whole of stats or whole of mechanics). It seems pointless doing it which is what people were telling me, but it means that you can get some of the easier stuff on point so that the hardest stuff won’t even matter (remember you only needed 55% for an A and you’ll only need 70% at the most).
2. If you’re still struggling with certain chapters (so with me this was most of mechanics). Then start doing the specific exercises. Admittedly I couldn’t practice what I preached with mechanics fully because of personal issues and of course time issues (so revise earlier than I did).
3. Do every single past paper you can do and mark yourself honestly, but only after you’ve done steps 1 and 2. I did each pure paper after I revised the whole of pure, each stats section after revising stats, etc.
4. After knowing how well you’re doing after this do the review exercises. This is what prevented me from getting an A* but again due to personal issues and timing restrictions I couldn’t do this. But please do this, some of the real questions were exact copies (especially for further maths),
5. Double check the official specification. Some people (including myself), struggled on paper 2, because a lot of the questions were not taught in the textbook, for example the integration question. Double check everything in the spec, and try and either teach yourself the leftover parts or get your teacher too.
Sorry for the long rambling, but I hope this helps you.
Solo12313 thank you, i would always do the mixed exercise for each chapter. But I didn’t do the review exercise, they are good practice.
One thing i never did was the past papers in timed condition, mainly because of the new spec. I only did them in class.
Also, for statistics, i did almost every question in the textbook but still didn’t do as good. Not sure what will help with stats.
I printed out the spec so i can tick off everything including that integration part.
Thank you again for the advice.
M H another bit of advice speaking of past papers. Even the ones you have done for tests, do them again provided it’s been some time after doing them. And make note of what stats chapters you’re screwing up on. The trick is if you’re doing great in mechanics and you get your pure on top form (so like 70-80% in each) you can screw up stats as much as you can. That was kinda me with mechanics I knew I wasn’t going to do well but my pure was on top form so that I ended up with about 80 and 60 in papers 1 and 2 this year and in stats I probably got at least 40 out of 50 marks which meant that even with missing 30 marks worth of mechanics questions and 30 marks worth of the weird pure questions in paper 2 I still got 193 marks

I'm from Germany and I really don't understand how you can get the best mark (or the second best if you consider A* the best) if you only have a little more than half of the answers correct. In most subjects we have to have about 90 or even 92% for the highest possible mark. That's so weird.
