As some of you might have noticed, i've completely removed some older videos that weren't specific for Mass Effect, and because of this, i've decided to re-introduce this oldie :)
I want to keep everything on this channel Mass Effect related, so even if i get a claim on this one, i'll let it be.

There’s a Mass Effect motion simulator ride at California’s Great America, and it is basically an IMAX theater. From multiple years of operating this ride, I have determined that the back row in the center has the loudest Reaper noise, as you’re sitting DIRECTLY underneath one of the speakers.
I’m listening to this now because I had just seen Dune in an IMAX cinema yesterday and wanted some more sound design greatness😂

That sound comes from a garbage container btw haha, from the heavy lid which was creaking. They pitched it down a bit and tadaa, Reaperr :D (Info is from the 25 years of Bioware book)

I imagine thats the exact reason as to why the Reapers make that sound. They do it to mess with your head, to add psychological warfare to their strategy.
Fun fact I just learned a lot of these reaper sounds are just a trash can lid being opened
@@jabalzy6982 basically but not exactly. Its a specialized bear trash can with hinges to keep the lid closed in case a bear comes. They took that sound down one octave and added reverb and we got an absolute spine chilling, scared to death of imminent annihilation sound. Idk what I'd do if reapers were real

They say in the documentary how they recorded the Reaper Sounds. Apparently, the sound team went to a National Park in Canada and found a bear proof trash can. They recorded the sounds of the groaning lid opening and closing... When they got back to the studio, the sound team slowed the track down 200% and slapped reverb and delay on it.... And when they heard it they said "My God... This is it."
Apprently it was not intended for Reapers, but after hearing the edited track, the happy accident was perfect.
So there you go. Reapers are literally trash cans.
Fighting that Reaper in Rannoch and watch it come closer and closer untill was right on top of you was really scary. I dont get why the reaper did not just squash you with his leg instead of shooting you.
You do get nearly stepped on by the one on Tuchanka, though.
@Misery Blossom just a guess but I think it’s because of every other distraction going on around you on earth of the war being all around unlike tuchanka where the battle was more isolated in one spot so because of that it was more occupied with you.

The true love for this sound(1:40) is the fact after 2 whole games of no one listening to Shepard. They’re all forced to come to reality by that devastating sound.
I remember hearing it for the first time in ME3 and being like: This is it, this is what I’ve been preparing for.

Hearing the guns and people screaming in the background is so terrifying, I will *never* get over how scary the reapers are.
From 2:09 onward are just the sounds of the apocalypse basically.

The first time I heard 1:44 was the greatest yet most terrifying moment in my gaming experience. I've played horror games and this wasn't a horror thing, it was despair.

Coming from a musicians perspective, I absolutely love the sound design and even the more musical aspects of the Reaper. Obviously 1:45 is the best example. The sound is just so intense and awesome. As a bassist, I’ve always been very attracted to the lower frequencies. Frequencies you not only hear but feel. And that low growl is amazing. Definitely sounds like something an edm artist would use. And I wouldn’t doubt if they have already
If I remember correctly, the sounds from the Reapers were taken from trash compactors, lowered in pitch and speed, similar to how Darth Vader's breathing was done using underwater breathing tanks.

Funny. I was on an Hardstyle Event last Saturday and I talked to my friend that these Reaper sounds would make an awesome track. I think I have to try to get into this stuff

It's really interesting to look at them as war horns. Juxtaposed to things like a viking horn, or Stuka siren (German bombers in the movie Dunkirk.)
I feel like a typical war horn is to let you know that your enemy's bringing the fight to you. Now imagine hearing 1:44 at a deafening level, every window around you exploding and every bone in your body rattling with the sheer frequency and power.
That's not a "we're here to fight."
That's "there isn't even gonna BE a fight."
I swear at 1:40 when I heard it for the first time I was so damn terrified as the reaper landed onto the Asari homeworld, listening to the soldier just get panicked while you can only look at their demise. I don't know why but the way the reapers sound overall its just so damn scary in a way I can't put into words.

I just discovered that lots of people are still playing the multiplayer on xbox and I STILL have the original discs with the pass. I am so happy. :)
What is terrifying is that you can hear them communicate, these things are living and they know they are doing bad
Thing is though, the Reapers are machines. They see what they do as their intended purpose and feel no remorse or satisfaction over it. It’s just what they’re made for, and they’re convinced the universe is better off for it. Y’know what they would have done if Shepard failed and they successfully purged the galaxy? Go back to dark space, switch off for 50,000 years and come back to do it all over again to whatever new species emerged in the meantime. To us, this was the end times. To the Reapers, it was just another shift at work.
That roar sound from the first few seconds got me like "Yeah definitely a world ending race"

The sound of the reaper firing is one of the most haunting things ever.
Walking at night, feeling the cool breeze and you hear 0:06, realizing it's all over you give in to despair and accept your fate

Hearing this again reminds me of that moment after playing ME1 and 2 probably a hundred times and finally getting my hands on ME3 for the first time, seeing the reapers on earth and thinking "holy shit, it's actually happening". Such a big moment in gaming that i'll never forget.
These sounds are amazing. Is there some kind of playlist for this stuff? I mean stuff like this, or for example also stuff like the drones from Oblivion or the Laser Gewehr from Wolfenstein New Colossus or even an A-10 doing the brrt. I just want MOAR!

Nothing is more iconic than large metal alien mech with foghorn functionality.
I’ve had the Reaper Horn as my text tone for years. It gets your attention.
The Reaper sounds and the throbbing Marker sounds from Dead Space are just chilling.
Yeah, the ending definitely had it's problems, but you can't tell me they did the Reapers injustice, because their exactly how I expected them. This all encroaching, unstoppable, all consuming death. Destroyers of worlds, capable of even making the strongest militaries crumble. Where only a united front would even have a slight chance of facing them. The noises they sound as they approach, morale killer, the sound of impending doom, the sound of approaching annihilation. And all most ever see last is the red glare of the beam, carving through their hulls, turning them to ash, and leaving nothing behind but a smoldering wreck. A reminder of what they are capable of.
