Traveling by air has never been as popular as now: the sky is full of airplanes and the airports are crowded with tourists and business travelers.
In fact, the travel industry is the second-fastest-growing sector in the world and international tourist arrivals reach even 10% yearly growth in some countries. According to a forecast from 2019, international tourist arrivals will reach 1.4 billion in only 2 years' time.
In Hungary, inbound tourism is having its real heyday - with a stable yearly growth from 5 to 8% of international arrivals. Hungary's main airport, Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest, had some real challenges to solve.
How to ensure the smooth passenger flow of more and more travelers? How to implement high security and super-fast border control at the same time?
The answer is Automated Border Control, an e-gate that manages passengers' border crossing within just a few seconds, skipping manual checks and eliminating long queues. The system is self-service; human verification is required only if a document fails at the automated checks, saving a vast amount of time and resources.
First, the passport scanner device automatically reads the document data and performs a forgery check. Once it is completed, the traveler’s identity is verified: using face recognition, the system makes sure that the traveler is the same person as the document holder. The process is monitored by a CCTV system to make sure there is no tailgating and everything is running smoothly.
It is only a few seconds and the border crossing is completed. To ensure even better passenger flow, the next person can start scanning the passport even when the previous one is having their face verification inside.

What if you're non-EU citizen (e.g. USA)?

If you are an EU citizen and come back from a non-EU country, you need to have a valid passport. The validity can be checked with our ID document reader models beside the fast and accurate data reading.
