Glasses raised to the end of a journey, and the last episode of Rex & Daniel together on the Whiskey Vault. It's been maginificent, and I'm sure the new format with (just) Daniel is going to turn out to be just as amazing as what we Maginificent Bastards have gotten used to. Rex will be missed over here! 🥃
I haven't tuned in in some time now. This is the first video I've watched. What's going on???
Here here! SALUTE!
@@homie-gtv322 video on whiskey tribe describing what happened
Can’t find it. So many videos@@samsham8218
@@homie-gtv322they recently made a long and somewhat convoluted video explaining why Rex will no longer accompany Daniel on the Whiskey Vault channel and why Daniel won't be a part of Whiskey Tribe. The video is titled "end of the road" or something like that, if you want to check it out.
I have had an independently bottled version of Dalmore ( Gordon & Macphail ) and it is a superb whisky when it has not been messed with , Natural colour and cask strength, 👍
My husband and I loved watching the both of you. We've learned so much ! Thank you ! All the best to Rex and we will keep watching you Daniel ❤🥃
Whitetail deer are used as the example of size based on climate. If you go to the keys, a big whitetail buck weighs 75 lbs while a buck in Wisconsin would weigh 250 lbs. Basically, hot climates favor small body weight while a larger body is needed to tolerate cold temperatures
Is that why I've been putting on weight? I'm reacting to my climate finally - evolving if you will. Bring on the food! (In all seriousness, your description is perfection. Thanks)
As a Missourian whose traveled a lot, I have legitimately wondered why the deer everywhere else look tiny. That’s fascinating actually.
I've always thought it would be cool to somehow trap some of them northern deer to release them on my families land just to see what it would do to the genetics overtime, I'm in SE missouri and our deer our pretty big (my brother got a measured 181 3 years ago) but the bodies of those northerners are giant
End of an era 🥃
Muscadine brandy made in Mississippi
I used to buy Dalmore Cigar Malt Scotch in the late 1990s for about $50 a bottle. It was my go-to Scotch before it disappeared from the market. The next time I saw it on the shelf, it was over $120 a bottle and too expensive in my opinion. And, yes, it did pair well with a good Maduro cigar.
“It’s $180, but you can get it.”
Daniel, what makes you think I have $180?
I wish we could’ve got a final vault video with Rex. Maybe even with The Irishman to end it the same way it started. Would’ve like to hear a final loud “here’s to fighting, stealing and drinking”…
What happened to Rex? Noticed he isnt in the recent videos and cant find a lick of information on why anywhere. Did they part ways?
@@AlkalineGamingHD There is a video on whiskytribe called "End of the road | Crowded Barrel Ep. 4" that explains it.
I've noticed you guys swirling your whiskies lately, but I remember you talking about not doing that in the past. How come you're doing it now?
See 3:54, 10:05 for example, though I've seen it done more clearly in other episodes.
As a Texan living abroad, it's just nice to hear "Marble Falls" dropped in conversation 😊
Got this for myself this year as a 40th bday gift. Absolutely love this bottle!
Every bottle they make is great. The Cigar Malt is probably my third favorite Dalmore, after the 15 and the Sherry 12. If you can find it, and don't mind dropping the money, the King Alexander III is divine.
I bought a bottle of this last year for my birthday. Love it!
My favourite Dalmore. Bottle almost done so you know I'm buying another one straight away
i got that one 3 years ago, i am saving it till my son's 18th birthday. Hope its still good by then.
I'm so happy you guys are back to whiskeys I can actually get !
Why do they not do videos anymore? What happened to the dynamic duo
Dalmore 12 was my introduction to whiskey, and it's still my favorite. I wish cigar malt was at a lower price point.
I went to a Dalmore tasting and it was what plunged me into the whiskey world. I tried 12, 15, 18, the cigar malt and a 35 year $5k bottle. That was amazing!!!! but the cigar malt is awesome and much more affordable. I love the Matusalem sherry it's casks contained. I sometimes add a shot of sherry to a glass of cigar malt for slightly more sweetness and smoothing effect. Love wheated bourbon but this is my go to Scotch.
For about half the price, I really like their Port wood reserve. A little funky on the nose, but tastes very good.
This new format reminds me of a certain whisky bothy in all the best ways.
Man i will miss the videos with you both. The guys that got me to understand burbon
Im sipping Royal Bastard as I finally watch this. Cheers!
I could listen to the deer and fox rant for hours
I know rum is out side of the whiskey world but I'm curious to see what you guys think about Just Rum. It's rum but done with a whiskey twist.
in Nebraska mature buck deer are over 200 pounds state record is 287 pound.. even some of the does (girls) are 200 pounders...
It is not natural colour right?
Thanks guys for the video 🥃
Their 12 yr Sherry Cask Select is wonderful. Much better than most of their core range and definitely better than the regular 12 yr.
How is their Regular 12 years old..I am planning to buy one from duty free
@35D28 I was at the Pot Still pub in Glasgow recently and asked for the Dalmore 12 Sherry Cask because I wanted to know how close it came to the Port Wood Reserve and Cigar Malt and they gave me the regular 12. Grr.. I'd still like to AB compare them. If it's close enough I can save a bunch of money.
Pair it with a good Cuban and you'll see how well it lives up to its name. Great drink for a Good Smoke!
The name is for marketing only. All good scotch pairs well with cigars.
It's a 180 dollars?! That's the first time I've ever heard of a bottle of alcohol being cheaper here in Norway than anywhere else, Jeebus
Did you guys already know that this was going to be the last episode together when you shot this? Or do you still have some unpublished videos shot after this? Can we still see them? 🙂
We knew this was last, and it's the last one we shot!
@@WhiskeyVault I see! One last question... Why you do this to me fam??? Haha just kidding. I wish you all much success! 🗡🗝🥃
One of my favourites. I really want to get a second bottle.
Wow can't wait to try this one i order up a bottle last night on line for $143.00 Canadain cant pair it up with my cigars 😋😍👌
oh boy, one I acutely have! Found a lot of the notes. some of the fruit not so much but chocolate for sure. Thanks for the vid guys.
Is Bourbon even a whiskey? Or would it make more sense to just separate Bourbon as it's own class of drink (much like Sherry, Cognac and so on)?
I always had Dalmore 15 as my benchmark go-to since i started my whisky journey (also have the cigar malt in my shelf). Last year at The Whisky Fringe i teased the rep about they got so much colour from the barrels. She never once acknowledged the fake colouring...
many reps have no idea what theyre selling, theyre just there to sell.
I’m have the Port Wood Dalmore right now and I’m enjoying it.
Gonna try some Dalmore this month. Have only heard good things of it. We'll see! Cigar malt is $200 where I am.
Everything comes to an end. The two finally went their own ways. Rex has his own channel (and business), Daniel has his own channel (and business).
Why is rex leaving or moving on? Been of this channel for a while so missed things. Also all them whiskya behind you. Do u even drink them casually off stream and when not working. Or are they for the whisky school/online content only
We did a split between the channels that was all explained on a Tribe video on November 11th. All good, just necessary changes.
The vault is almost entirely a resource for the somm school. Like a Whisky reference library. But we also use it to give students whisky tours during our non whisky classes, which represent about 90% of the classes at Wizard Academy.
That bottle is pure market hype. It is designed for rich Americans.
It is chill filtered, coloured with caramel, very young and watered down.
End of a legacy. Cherish this moment forever. Here's to fighting stealing and drinking.
I bought the Dalmore Quintet. 100 something euro's. What a boring dram. In my opinion, not worth the "buck"
Edit: it's actually 44.5% ABV. Talking about odd percentages
Been going back into vault episodes. Just got to the glory that is Rex Week, where you guys did a Poor Man's blend of the Dalmore King Alexander. Please bring back some Poor Man's Blends for some of the more expensive/rare bottles!
I recall that episode. Thought it was pretty awesome. Got me interested in the Cigar Malt in the first place!!
Kilchoman also has metal coins on its bottles and they are quite secure.
Goodbye rex! Excited to see what the next chapter will be.
What happened to the mooch?
44% ABV and with no age statement (though it’s between 12 and 14 years old), the Cigar Malt Reserve spends time in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, European oak ex-Oloroso sherry butts, and finishes off in ex-Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks.
I remember tatsing this at a cigar bar. My reaction is exactly as the gents put it "its just Nicee". It would be great would a few more proof points for that high price
Always wanted to try this one but I've seen the price go from maybe affordable to there's no way I'm paying 250 Aud for it.....
Our Whitetail here in Syracuse NY go from 150- 215 lbs
In my experience most Dalmores just punch below their weight considering the price. Some are nice, but most are just to thin. Great nose, thin body. The Dominium, Cigar Malt and King Alexander III are noteworthy although expensive. All the others I have tried are way to thin. Probably very nice for unexperienced drinkers as they are 'smooth', but for those looking for drama Dalmore usually ain't it.
Exactly. In a world where whiskey is free, I don't have a problem with Dalmore. But their standard releases are just so...underwhelming, *especially* for the price. Plus artificial color and chill filtered...I just don't get it. What is there to like?
Port Wood Reserve is thin? How about blind taste test?
@@GrantMcWilliams I haven't tried that expression yet. I am not inclined buying a full bottle considering Dalmore's track record with me, so when I can get a dram somewhere I'll see.
But the standard 12, 15, regalis, valour, luceo, trio, quirtet... Not for me.
@@Bazzoro I think both the Port Wood Reserve and the Cigar Malt are fantastic. I'm a little confused why the Cigar Malt is double the price though as I think they're pretty comparable. I think the standard 12 is OK for an entry level whisky but funny enough the $12 Whyte and Mackay tastes a lot like the 12.
ok.. GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S... 🥃
If anyone is passing through Lisbon you can get Cigar Malt for 115 euros at Garrafeira Nacional with a shot at getting the VAT back in the airport. I don't know why they have it that cheap and they will actually ship it to the states but maybe you'll need to cough up for taxes when it arrives. Oddly the Cigar Malt at Garrafeira Nacional is only barely more expensive than the Port Wood Reserve (which I also like).
The last episode of the two of them together! To new horizons!!
That’s a whiskey I’ve been meaning to try. Got me thinking, another whiskey and cigar pairing video.
I am a fan of Dalmore in general, but I haven't had the Cigar Malt yet.
i like this bottle too, but it was a solid buy at $110 three years ago, its not worth $180 today
Dalmore is my favorite go to.
Can we get a counter for Daniel's hits and misses?
I asked for u to review this for years
Drank it pre 2009 when it was $80US. Not for 180.
Always makes me happy for other Whisky Enthusiasts to say "I LIKE DALMORE" I always feel dirty!
It's okay, we like our whisky slappers dirty 😅
i absolutely love the dalmore house style, the problem is that they bog down their products with so many issues. releasing their king alexander iii with insane amounts of caramel colour and watering it down to 40% and still charging premium prices is the best representative of how they consider their customers.
@@whiskyonthewestcoast hahaha! I will make sure not to shower before the next review just for you!
It’s so true! 😂
@makmoose How much caramel color do you consider insane as only 2.5% is allowed by law. Supposedly the caramel color is limited to 2.5% because according to the SWA that amount does not effect the flavor and is just enough to balance color from batch to batch. I think people just regurgitate what they hear without looking it up or parrot what Ralphy and a bunch of other TH-camrs say.
Now that we've seen your Whisky Vaukt, can we see yiur gun vault?
It’s more than likely skunks that are digging up the grubs. They tear up my yard every year. The cigar malt is too expensive. I just picked up the GlenAllachie 12 and the Killchoman Sanaig. I love both for half the price
coin in wax on a bottle. You could incorporate it into the top of the cork in wax.
The e150 is the least of my complaints about Dalmore. The regular 12 year is at 40% and chill-filtered to within an inch of its life.
The Cigar Malt and King Alexander III are both pretty good, but the 12 is incredibly disappointing.
I’d overlook caramel coloring and plastic deer for higher proof and non chill filter
Here in Wisconsin a normal sized buck can weigh like 200lbs
It's a Red Deer. Which is closely related to elk.
Can someone please explain the 30% price hikes for Dalmore in the last 2 years, its a joke.
They spent a lot of money on marketing.
Great whisky and purchased it once. Very expensive. I dont believe its worth the price
I miss the mooch.😢
Been waiting for a sale on this one
Honestly i was disappointed with this. Its good but the finish lasts seconds and then gone.
If you want to try it i dont mind sharing
What is E150?
One of my favs but the price has risen to a point that it’s not longer worth it.
Odd thought, speaking of the multi-grain, how about distilling bird seed?
I think its time to start shredding the paper, than pulpify and distill it.
Now that would be a nice shot hehe ( get it - shice not ? )
I still remember the time when I bought a bottle for just under $130...
Rex will be interested to know that red stags (found in Scotland and most of the rest of Europe) and elk were believed to be the same species for a long time. So red deer are about the size of elk
that makes way more sense
E150? Food Coloring??
I picked this up when it was around 130$…I just flat out dislike it. Dalmore has a very very distinct Caramel Coloring flavor like they pile the stuff in it. I’ve heard others cannot taste it as much but I certainly can and it’s so off putting. I love some of the Tropical fruit notes in this whiskey like papaya and pineapple but I cannot get over that terrible fake coloring flavor.
On the flip side Dalmore has some amazing vegetal chocolate/malty notes I enjoy and if anyone out there is like me and cannot stand Dalmore but enjoy some of the notes in it definitely try Edradour. Especially if you can get the Edradour 10 Signatory bottling. Highly recommend as a much better alternative.
Whiskey tribe video idea, tribes top 5 whiskey and cigar pairings.
Why they colour and bottle at below 46% and chill filter is a mystery to me. They own Jura as well and the same thing there as well. I guess they don’t care about us enthusiasts. Thanks 🙏 for a colourful review. Kind regards, S.
They just make Instagram bottles now for people with more money then sence.
Get a fan blowing air out of your office window and you won't have to worry about it wafting out anywhere else
Why is this the last episode guys ?......
If the stag on Dalmore is supposed to be a red deer, it actually is more like an elk than a whitetail! They’re cousins 😂
I've always wondered how good this is. I work at a bar that has quite an array of whiskey (Macallan Reflexion, Pappy 10 and 12, Blanton's, multiple EH Taylor's, George T Stagg, etc. just to give an idea of how much whiskey we have) and I had a customer a few months ago get like 5 double pours of Dalmore Cigar for $65 a piece if I remember correctly. And one pour of the Macallan Reflexion (for $175) and I couldn't help but wonder, out of all the things we had in the bar, why keep getting the Dalmore Cigar 5 times when you could have had Dalmore the first time and tried for other whiskies. I get drinking what you like, but idk. It just seems like if you're willing to spent $65 for a pour, you might as well try some other stuff (that might even be cheaper). All in all I think his bill was like $500 at the end of the night
It's good, I'm not sure it's worth the $220 plus tax (Total Wine) in Washington state but then I don't pay that for it anyway as I get it in Lisbon for 115 euros whenever I pass through. I've had the Cigar Malt and Port Wood Reserve back to back and I think they're comparable but the latter is much cheaper in the US - about $99 at Total Wine. If I had to pay full price for Cigar Malt I'd just buy the Port Wood Reserve instead. Still, we always have Cigar Malt around as it's enjoyable.
I can understand, love Hibiki and Yamazaki, and when I go to a fancy bar in Japan I COULD go with crap Johnny Blue, or *insert fancy bad tasting peaty whiskey*, or sip what I like and get Hibiki 17 because just nothing tastes better to me.
He got them because they’re expensive.
No way I unknowingly lit up a cigar before this video came on. I liked this whisky but there does seem to be some cheapness in presentation the top of my cork came off for example
Cask strength. No chill filtration. No e150. Sensible packaging.
That’s the formula.
Spot on Arran's packaging is my favourite
I bought this for turkey season and my dad and his friends killed it before i even got a chance to try it lol
I would prefer all single malts to embrace the standards of non-chill filtered and no E150.
I prioritize No Chill Filtration over natural color, it's for drinking not for looking
Finally. The Cigar Malt
Dalmore would be a really well respected brand except for the e150 debacle.
A deer preserve in Marble Falls seems like a waste of space. There are deer everywhere around there, and, in fact, all over Texas. I try to avoid driving at night, because there are so many collisions with deer. A deer jumping in front of your car can total it, and send you to the hospital. It isn’t good for the deer, either.
For various reasons, there are more deer in North America now then ever before. But when the Field Museum opened in Chicago in the 1890s, it made a special effort to display taxidermied whitetail deer, because their numbers had declined so much since 1800 that it was assumed whitetails would soon be extinct.
You both talk about the horrors of E150 and purists but the trade off seems highly favorable. you lose 5% of the market who are snobs but gain 15-20% of the non-whiskey initiated, it's just business and it's not like they made quality sacrifice in the process. Just an appearance, market move. Also you guy said you would do a blind E150 vs no E150 comparison to prove it had no effect on taste and also comparing to identical whiskey were you secretly darken one to assess visual bias to dark whiskey in tasting. (obviously not among Sommes)
How come they don’t do videos together anymore?
We did a split between the channels that was all explained on a Tribe video on November 11th. All good, just necessary changes.
@@WhiskeyVault thank you for the reply - yeah I watched the vid appreciate the transparency all the best and following along with both ventures. 👍
Whats happening with Rex?😢
Go watch the Whiskey Tribe episode from Saturday, November 11th
