- Portable RV waste tank! A review and first use of the Camco Rhino portable waste tank! Watch us figure out how to dump sewage! Full time RV living means learning to live without water. So we got a 21 gallon Camco Rhino tote tank. We use it for dumping RV sewage when we're not fully hooked up or boondocking. So here is our first use and review of the Camco Rhino portable waste tank!

I have the same size one. We can get three nights and four days out of our gray tank... Sometimes four nights. No need to worry about black. So, we have tended to get Elec/Water sites and IF we need one day, just dump enough for another day and put tote in bed of the truck. There are a couple of Nat Forest campgrounds where this works and we seldom go that long doing mostly weekends where there is not real need to dump anyway until we get to one. I have "towed" it a couple of times to an RV Park dump, mostly very short distances and like five or less mph... I consider it a life saver for not having to move the travel trailer JUST FOR A DUMP.
Thanks for taking the time to make this. Yes, an optional gauge is available and comes in handy "Camco Rhino RV Tote Tank Gauge"
Good to know! Thank you!
You guys are SO cute!!! And this is extremely helpful as we are older(in our 60's) but total newbies. I'm a lot like this gal and worry about these things. These videos will help us when we camp at paces without water hookups!! Thank you for not taking your selves too seriously and putting me at ease, time to go be weird!! TY!!
Oh, thank you! I'm so excited for you!!
Smart way to dump waste!!!!! Explore more and Enjoy!!!!
Thank you! We're SO GLAD we got this.
They have incinerator toilets now, and some are beginning to put them in RVs so you have no black water. Just the sinks and shower water and if you put some deodorizer in that water tank chemicals, it won’t even smell because it’s not bad like black water. It’s hard to get black water not to smell but gray water is pretty easy to handle. I’ve even added laundry soap to my kitchen. Drain and made the gray water smell fine just before I empty it. It helps a lot.
One day I will be a beginner but I’m glad I came across your video
Oh thank you! 💚
I can see using one of these if you have a family of four and plan on camping in one spot for a couple of weeks. My wife and I have camped for 10 days with our RV and have never filled our black tank to the point of having to move the RV and dump. These things look more like a hassle than actually having to unhook the RV and dump. But, I can see some instances where one of these waste tanks would come in handy. Good video!
Thanks! We usually have our daughter with us, but she was spending a few weeks at Grandma's house. The three of us have never filled the black tank so much we have to go dump, but our setup is a lot (because we work on the road) so to secure everything and go dump would be a huge hassle for us. The external tank is an amazing "just in case" thing to have. Especially for gray water. Thank you so much for watching!
I got a tote for free from my neighbor. It didn't come with any of the hoses or metal tow bar. The owner said they sold their RV and forgot to take the assories out. I purchased a kit from Amazon as well as the bumper mount for it. We are going to Colorado for a month soon, so I am thinking we may need it. Good video.
Dig those Fran Dresher Glasses. Perhaps a pillow case sized mesh bag that can hang on the handle to carry your hose and attachments.
Thank you! And THAT is a super great idea!!
I can just disconnect electric, water, hit the retract jacks button, and drive to the dump station. Easy peasy! You could have filled up the water and dumped the black too. I keep our slinky’s in a tub. I take both ends of the slinky and connect it to itself. No caps to keep track of and the hose stays in rectangle shape.
👍going to the dump station!! I have seen those with stickers reading”Yesterdays meals on wheels”. Beside you need water anyway for the fresh tank.
You can add chemicals to the grey water because the kitchen can have water that will stink. I just add it to the kitchen sink drain
I love Ebay!! Used is fine by me....thanks for the info.
I hope to God you washed between sewer and filling fresh water.
Get a long piece of raw wood. Stick it in the hole, wet line shows how much. I worked in a gas station, I measured the tanks with a long piece of wood. To order gasoline by. Works great.
The random stick he grabbed got the job done, but a piece of raw wood is a better idea!
Thank you for the video, good information.
Oh 5 gallons. You two are so sweet
I call it a satellite tank.
Use nitrile gloves when dealing with the black tank
Get a massarator pump put the tank on your tow rig next to the tall gate end of bed.
Pump on fill the tank dump on your rig.
Don't be driving it around on the hitch you will get tired of it quickly and it's too heavy..
Would let you use a small rv for day trips , dump black tank like a cassette toilet
Hi, just saw this. Its our favorite State Park! Janes Island in Crisfield, Md. Thanks
We loved it there!
that handle is for a hitch so you can pull with vehicle slowly
Great information
Is that a 2 gallon fresh wAter.
curious, why te white bags on the tire?
They're tire covers. Helps keep the tires from baking in the sun so they last longer (also keeps mud off of them). Great question!
I like an easy dump
😆 same!
I rented a 5th wheel and the owners used a portable waste tank. When it was picked up the guy started to roll it and it fell apart. And they thought i was going to dump it.......
Enjoy you videos
You guys were totally high. Right. Lol
Haha! Is it too lame to say "we're high on life!"?
Congrats on 10k views for such a 💩y subject! We’re a small channel too so 10k views is a big deal! Great job!
Thank you so much! I'm super proud of my poopy 10k 😂 it's such a grind isn't it?!
@@KimBarbooTravels totally! Safe travels!
@@secondchancesrvadventures same to you!
You should dump black tank then gray to flush the black water? Always use gloves. Wait until get 25 gallons an try to pull or lift it? Nasty wearing sandals that hopefully you take shower before walk into camper?
We usually follow a similar routine when dumping. We just wanted to test the tank out. But yes. Usually it's gloves, closed toed shoes, black, then gray, and flush with a hose after.
@@KimBarbooTravels I had one of these 15 gallon tanks an when full an you lift to pull they are so heavy better hope not going far! The Smarttote -2 is more like a Wagon with 4 wheels an handle don’t need to try an lift works a lot better for us Older people!
@@roberttaylor8261 they get SO heavy! Thankfully, we only have to use this once in a while. And lots of people tow them behind their trucks (which is funny to see, but I totally get it!) Lifting it full can be a big pain though.
@@KimBarbooTravels Yes we stay at a campground for 3 months in summer. The smarttote -2 has a handle that can also attach to hitch an pull.
Need a bag to put everything in along with rubber gloves and paper towels in baggie
Use gloves, don’t touch face, rinse out all things with lots of water.
Gray water can smell as bad as black, do not use clean fill hose to rinse tanks. Get a small spray bottle of water and bleach as you can prevent so much cross contamination. A spray bottle of rubbing alcohol is also good for hands but you still need to wash hands well, rinsing out your black and gray tanks well helps lots too and the transportation tank and the hoses will always get dirty, but keeping it as clean as you can will help you not get sick from a small mistake!!
Always wear gloves when playing at the dump station 😊
There a short hose for waste washer connection. To keep from contaminating potable water for next camper
Do you mean when we rinsed the tank at the dump? Because that's not potable water.
Those are the biggest eyeglasses I've ever seen
Hello my friend full Watching Video like done & How are you friend
2 points
_ "nothing to fear with "grey water". Thats just used dish water and sinks and shower. The real one to take serious not on is the "black tank"
_Also. ALWAYS dump your BLACK (first) then dump GREY to wash out your tank and hoses.
besides that. Good job.
We've been RVing for over 5 years. This was just a demonstration of the portable tank. We're familiar with all of these things and then some. We ALWAYS do a good job regardless of your points.
Umm. I have the same unit. U dump it from the side valve not the top fill
Our 21 gallon definitely does not have a side valve. That would have been cool. Pretty sure only the bigger sized tanks have the super sweet side valve.
Ok I have a 25 gal
Gloves!!!
Install a composting toilet and never mess with a black hose dump again. We have always been skeptics but are believers now. And gray water out a hose can be let go almost anywhere.
The smartest comment to this video. Chuck your blackwater tank and water wasting toilet. Go composting!! I love my AirHead toilet.
I wish we would've done this with our camper! Unfortunately ours is a combo gray/black so we can't turn it into a gray tank only now 😭
@@WeekendWandering why not? You can still dump all tanks.
@MoParRus340 well I can still change to a composting toilet, but I guess what I mean is I can't just dump gray water in places where it's allowed since the tank was previously used as a black tank.
@@WeekendWandering yeah, I’m not sure. But my thought is maybe you could rinse well enough to get it usable?
I would suggest wearing gloves at the dump site.
He usually does (we got distracted because of filming) but that's ALWAYS a good idea!
I got the 36 gallon tank. It’s a BITCH to pull from the sewer valve to the truck. But I definitely hook mine to the trailer hitch. It’s just too heavy. Mine also came with a 3 foot connection hose.
My husband wants to put something together so he can tow it with a bike 😆 Thankfully we've been close enough to the dump we haven't had to tow it with the car, but I'm sure the time will come.
@@KimBarbooTravels , man….. you wanna see great stuff happen, spend a Sunday with a camera at the RV park sewer dump. It’s as good as a day at the boat ramp.
Too true!! Better than TV!!
Can't believe that you did not wear gloves while handling sewer equipment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know right?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think they are high, lol
Love the video but, dude, that’s the No. one(and No.2) time to wear gloves.
Gloves 🧤 🧤
Gloves gloves gloves
Yes
I subbed because, " fun." I laughed with you, not at you.
You can laugh at me too. I do 😂 Thanks for the sub! Welcome to the "fun"
"We did it" ahhh you didn't didn't do anything ma'am !
I helped him choose the right tank to buy in the first place. Researched what we wanted. I was watching hoses and connections in case something went wrong and needed to jump in. He wanted to make a video. So I set everything up. Filmed. Edited. Posted. MADE COOL JOKES.
The only thing I didn't do was leave a comment that smells worse than the sewage we dumped.
And don't call me ma'am.
Why are you not wearing gloves 😮
Yes
A 20 gallon waste tank?? 20 x 7 pounds a gallon equals 140 pounds. Good luck toting that to the sewer dump.
When it's full most people tow it with their car. Also, it's important to find ways to exercise while traveling. 140 pounds of sewage is great for resistance training.
