Fun fact: the layers in MPEG files are sometimes called rules, and another abbreviation of MPEG is actually known more professionally as MPrEG (the Pr for "picture"). They actually tried making an mp34, to try to have a file that was capable of being both just an audio AND a video file, but the plan was scrapped for not making much sense. It's pretty interesting, lots of information about it if you search up "MPrEG rule 34"
Thanks for this new info, Im using my brother’s laptop rn, seems like he looked it up before since it autocompleted in the search bar the and the text was already purple. He’s such a nerd. 😂
i got this exact model of device for a birthday gift when i was a youngin around 2010. we couldn't afford an actual ipod in the country we were in at the time so this was the next best thing, and i will say that using it now (it still works!) is an absolute chore, using it as a kid was like holding space tech.
Here is my hypothesis for the "Format Error" that happens on a lot of nuggets. This may not be accurate. I feel like mentioning that all of these photo nuggets say "Format Error" because when Macs do files, they have the file itself, and some metadata that's technically a different file, usually hidden from the user. If you didn't notice, Wade had "IMG_6897" and "._IMG_6897." The second file is the Mac metadata file, which the nugget can't read. It seems like most of these nuggets automatically scroll between images saved to them. It tried to display the 2nd one, but couldn't read it.
This is correct. These are AppleDouble files, and no device is going to be able to read these. There are tools to clean these up from devices, and I think there's something you can run in the Terminal to disable creation of these.
Aww man, I remember having one of these mp4 as a gift back then. They suck. The box that came with it says it was 4gbs, but it actually had 100mbs. I remembered trying to import videos to this device but it was totally not worth it due to the short storage size. Importing music isnt bad and picture quality is horrendous. You can't zoom in and out of your photos. And I also remember that the mp4 had some games like tetris and minesweeper.

NTFS and FAT disks just hide the damn things in the System Volume Information
